Military is guaranteed back pay.
Back pay.
As in, they aren't getting paid RIGHT NOW. Guess what? Bills wait for nobody. They keep coming in every month whether you have a paycheck coming in every month or not.
A lot of people can soak up one month of no pay and collect their back pay and everything will be fine. A lot of people will feel that sting for a month and be okay in the long run if that happens.
But what happens if this shutdown drags longer than last time because Democrats are so insane they just won't give in?
What happens when the military hasn't gotten a paycheck in 2, 3, 4 months?
Democrats have no idea what kind of pressure cooker they are heating up right now. The longer these people go without getting paid, the worse it's going to get - for Democrats.
Nothing will motivate them more to take action when ordered to do so than being 3 months behind bills having difficulty keeping things from going to collections. If the Democrats think they can starve out the military that way, they're in for a special kind of hell that they are really not prepared for.
They are funded thru the 31 Oct. As are essential civil personnel.
This was expected and I think they planned it well. Many things are funded for several more weeks but during this time it allows the Trump administration the right to end programs, lay off nonessential people, and use this time to end some of the fraud and abuse we are all wishing would end.
I think it's a great plan.
Yeah. They have a band-aid worked into the system to protect necessary assets. They can cut out unnecessary burdens. Then the pressure on Democrats to end shutdown ramps up extremely rapidly after about a month or consequences get increasingly dire for them.
It sounds pretty solid to me!
I live in a military town, local credit unions have said they will offer 0% loans,if pay is canceled.
That's a great band-aid fix. But that's only a band-aid.
Band-aids can only cover up so much.
It has to go 6 weeks for them to miss a check. I belive the shutdown will be 10 days.....
We will see.
If Democrats know what's good for them it won't be more than 10 days.
I think they've found out by now that they are really digging themselves deeper into a hole every minute they let this drag on.
Soon they are going to have to eat the crow necessary to come to the table and make some concessions.
That means they have about the same length as last shutdown to figure things out.
If they don't, things start to get really spicy real fast.
Let's see, will they recognize they're digging themselves deeper and stop?
Or dig in their heels and double down like morons?
Knowing leftists... I have a feeling this is gonna take a while.
https://thehill.com/homenews/nexstar_media_wire/5532286-whats-the-longest-government-shutdown-in-us-history-this-one-isnt-even-close/
So that was 5 weeks, 6 weeks and they miss a pay check. If it goes one week longer than last time, things start to heat up fast. At this point another unprecedentedly-long shutdown is not totally out of the realm of reality so we'll see.
You said:: ""What happens when the military hasn't gotten a paycheck in 2, 3, 4 months?""
The fact is that the U.S. Military has some really good LAWYERS, and they really enjoy playing with Corporations, Businesses, Companies and anyone else who makes Contracts with our Military....
Our Troops don't have to lose Cars Houses, and other things they buy....
All they need is to get JAG directly involved, and the Lawyers will tie things up for Months, they can extend a Divorce Proceeding for at least 1 Year, I had them do that for me and I was here, in CONUS, just imagine what they can do with a simple Contract to buy a Car, how about 3 Loan Companies that hold 500 Contracts with Military personnel all on the same base....
This is NOT a Worry Point IF, If, if, we can just get our Troops to talk to JAG, and for what it's worth, they could end up negotiating a much better contract with less Interest and a slightly lower payment....
Stop trying to SCARE PEOPLE, there are ways and means around this stupid shutdown...
I have no idea what any of this is supposed to mean.. Many live paycheck to paycheck if they have families
I thought I was very CLEAR that,
our Troops not getting PAID is.
not really a Problem,
they have JAG,
the Judge Adjutant Generals Office,
full of LAWYERS that,
can Renegotiate ALL of those Contracts,
BECAUSE of the shut Down....
Normally,
The End result is,
Better Contractual Terms....
And can tie up Negotiations,
For Months,
Possibly Years....
I understand the words you are saying to me but I'm still not sure if I am buying what you are selling.
I don't think anything realistically is going to happen to the military. I think that realistically just the threat of that will force something to happen long before that.
DEFUND CONgress, let THEM feel the PAIN!!!
We are not getting paid, when its open we get paid and so does the folks on vacation.
It really pisses me off that the furlough staff gets paid the same as essential workers. Someone needs to change that asap.
Do you work for the war dept. And are you very essential?
Anyone still working is essential. Not very essential. All just considered the same level essential. We do not get any extra benefit for reporting to work while this is happening and the furlough staff gets paid just as we do at the end of it all and we just get stuck working withought any extra appreciation. It’s bullshit.
GS or WG?
GS.
WG around here are still working overtime.
Not to mention, pay is usually around 10 days behind. I seriously doubt anyone is going to miss a paycheck. The libs will cave long before then.
It's not going to drag on calm down.
I'm currently also considering the possibility that "10 days of darkness" also refers to the length of time for the shutdown and communications blackout referenced in my other thread:
https://greatawakening.win/p/1AR0nbz2l0/hot-take-about-communications-bl/
It might drag on. It might not.
I'm exploring either possibility right now.
I think that this "Shut Down"...Is ALL part of the Movie...Get MOAR popcorn, and Enjoy!!
Yes, let's all continue to do nothing but watch and guess!
We ere told to enjoy the Show...IF it were not for THEM...we would probably already be Dead...As I Said, Enjoy the Movie. I have a Feeling, it was over before it really got started.
Yup, sit back, relax and DO NOTHING. Just like all of history, this will get resolved with no one actually doing anything.

Looky at all the bipartisan cosponsors.

Even I can read this 1 page piece of legislation, even with my old eyes. Read it for yourself as you ponder the simplicity of single topic bills and regular order.
BTW, the House reconvenes on 10-7-2025. Seems I've seen that date in other GAW posts recently.

The fact that they are introducing this as something that will take in effect in 2026 and expire in 2027 is quite telling.
Are they expecting this to go on for quite some time?
Perhaps it's referring to fiscal year 2026-2027?
It says it has a hard stop date of Jan 1, 2027 at the end of the document.
One POSSIBLE scenario might be that it drags out 6 weeks, military starts missing paychecks, and they ram this through in a hurry to keep the military from all quitting or outright revolting while they sort out all their other BS.
At some point, people will have to take other jobs, if they are there. Last time, my family was barely able to last 35 days, and I was working while my husband also worked as an essential unpaid federal employee. This time I’m not working and things are looking a little scary right now. However, we have a lot more money liquid this time than the last time this happened so hopefully I won’t be looking for a loan like I was last time.
Likely, they will go to the pay window, I don’t know how that physically exists currently. Due to a major screw up, 800 of us weren’t getting paid. So we went to the pay window, where we were essentially taking out a loan against our future pay. We finally had to go to the Secretary of the Air Force to make the pay people fix it immediately.
Normally used for a PCS, where you can get a 3 month advance, but can be used for other reasons. You pay it back over 12 months interest free.
Only for the navy, not for other essential workers.
My point was that if a federal bank like NF is doing that, other banks may be doing something similar as a stop gap.
Other credit unions are offering 0% interest loans.
Usually have to already be a member. Please name the CU and I’ll check. Last time I found a random local bank willing to provide an unsecured personal loan but that comes with a high price.

Not only bills but food for the family! Many soldiers barely make enough to last from paycheck to paycheck. Trust me I know, my husband is a retired vet. When we were starting out, we barely made it each month, talking about stretching food to last as long as we could make it.
Has anyone even noticed an impact from the government being shut down? Day 3 and I haven't seen any noticeable difference. Lets just extend this for awhile and see what said impact is...
George Washington had the same problem among a host of others; military still wins. MAGA.
The LONGEST US government shutdown was 2018-2019 lasting 35 days.
We don't know how long this one will last, but it's probably not going to affect anyone outside of the military or "machine" too much if at all.
If they need a few more days to cut away the rotting flesh that's been hanging on for too long... You guys go right ahead. 😁
It’s going to piss off all of ICE, CBP, USSS, FBI, DHS, HHS, TSA. Everyone who goes to work without getting paid while all the other slackers on furlough get the same paycheck at the end without working the whole time.
First, respect to those who have served.
Our service members have access to base housing, base exchanges, dining facilities, loan suspension and base medical facilities.
They and their families will be taken care of.
Sounds like promise and not a threat. Well done.
They would have gotten paid on the first - they can get help through their command structure. They will be taken care of.
The Army Emergency Relief and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society will front any active military the money they need interest free and then just take it from their back pay when it comes down the line. They have enough to fund every active military member for six months.
not sure how that is a positive. Most live paycheck to paycheck if they have family
Dont a lot of companies have a clause to pause people serving in military bills?
Commander in chief has all he authority he needs to get money to servicemen . Doesn't have to be thru regular channels
Under what statutes and laws can he do this?
Article ll is very loopholy
All pertaining to him having authority over all military functions as CIC
Recall that last Trump term he used DoD money to build the wall when CONgress wouldn't give him any.
That's an old link. Is my information outdated or did that eventually pass? Or was that pass the coverage until Oct 31 that was previously discussed in an earlier reply?
See my other comment for the most recent status.
Dems in Congress already capitulated. You are watching a movie
Personally if someone can’t go a few months without pay, you were already in a situation to begin with.
You know a lot of people who have 3 months worth of money in their account? Because I don't.
I woulda say almost everyone I know. Maybe except some kid who just started working. But yea, folks who have a regular job, payments, bills. Drive cars, live in apartments or homes, If they don’t have any spare they are either living well beyond their means, or just suck at saving money. I’ve never made the money I hear others make. And yet I could go a few months easily. As I said, put a little back every week. I don’t care if it’s $5. Do a budget. I know a few who make $75-80,000 a year and don’t have a pot to piss in. Just terrible with money. They could make a million a year and still be broke. Don’t be like that. Learn to conserve and appropriate what’s worth your dollar. I’m low income compared to most. I’ve gone 6 months easily without pay. Just gotta learn the game. It sick’s sometimes, you’ll do without. But you’ll learn.
