Yes, my husband's work covers myself and my husband. The total premium now for the two of us is over $2,400/month. We will now be paying about $620/month of that premium. $2,400/month for two healthy people is insane. A person I work in the same building with is at $1,000/month now, which she straight up can't afford so she's going to let her health insurance go.

I'm thinking that we maybe should talk to my husband's employer about dropping me off the insurance and we'll put aside the money we would save from dropping me off into a savings for if we had need of it. We have only ever had one claim on the insurance in 13 years when I broke my wrist in a fall 6 years ago. Once upon a time, I was six years without insurance but had money set aside in a health savings account. When I did the numbers, that ended up being way cheaper. However, you need to make sure you have your home or other important assets in a trust if you're going to take a risk like that.

Add to that that if I were diagnosed with some serious illness, likely 99% of the time I would not do what the doctors suggested--I would opt for alternative therapies, which the insurance won't cover anyway. So how useful is the insurance if what I would do they won't pay for and what they would pay for I won't do?

It's a freaking racket.

More features on the way.

The more features are here today, the GOP let the ACA protections lapse and now insurance companies can charge whateer they want. The demonrats at least wanted to keep those protections in place.

Per Democrat Fetterman…..the democrats created the ACA to EXPIRE exactly when it did so they could use that to win midterms by blaming it on Republicans. The democrats were responsible for the KKK, Jim Crow and a multitude of sins against the American people! This government shutdown is just another piece of their evil playbook they’re trying to blame President Trump and his administration for. Those who research….know. Those who don’t…..don’t.

He also wants private money helping to bail out Argentina. Let's assume these are good people helping bridge the financing of the new global financial system. In return, they get a City named after them and all their money paid back with a large bonus that says a big thank you from Humanity..

My son recently underwent a surgery for essentially what was a big pimple on his neck and he had to be put under. It was outpatient and he was home 5 hours later. The bill: $55,000 and he only had to pay $400, thank God.

Going without some type of health insurance is playing financial roulette. I wish you the best and sincere good luck!

I'm not defending the democrats, but they put in their health insurance bill that they would cap those costs. The GOP are in bed with insurance companies, so they're more than happy to let them fuck us over and over.

I broke my hand and it was $12000 to cast it ... no way in hell it costs that much. In every other country in the world they cap ER visits at $500.

You HAVE to have health insurance even if you don’t use it. Your employer sends out a 1095-C report to you like a w-2 that you HAVE to attach to your taxes. You get $ penalized if you are not covered. My tax guy says that is 1 of the major things IRS looks for. He said he tells people that want to cancel their employer healthcare to get the cheapest Obummercare policy and don’t use it. Just start saving up what you would have paid for employer’s healthcare plan.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– agsasj 2 points 254 days ago +2 / -0

This is incorrect and you need a new tax guy. 30+ year tax accountant here. That was the original rule for the ACA. The 2018 tax law did away with the “have to have insurance” provision. That was set to expire this year. The new 2025 BBB codified the prior 2018 changes and made them permanent.

Marketplace premiums are going up because the temporary CV subsidies are expiring. As well, healthy people are not being forced to buy health insurance, so there is no offset to lower the costs.

It’s all a racket .. and time for the government intrusion into health care to implode.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– thekingofracine [S] 1 point 254 days ago +1 / -0

Correct, unfortunately the 2018 law also let insurance companies charge whatever the hell they want. It removes all guidelines for what should be charged or denied. That's why my bill went up more than 60% and on Jan 1, no matter who you get your insurance from your bill will go up about the same.

Do you think your work is suddenly going to eat a 60% boost for your insurance?

That is why Marjorie Taylor Greene is so pissed about this. Her district has the highest amount of employed white people using the ACA on the east coast. She shared that in just her district, the voters will be paying an additional $40 million dollars for WORSE coverage.

Welp, I work for myself. I completely understand where you are coming from. Before 2010, we paid roughly $500 a month for a family of 4, with the high deductible plan … deductible was $6,000 a year. This is small business insurance, since both of us worked for ourselves. So, roughly $12,000 a year, if we needed to use it.

Starting 2010, because of Odumbo and Nasty Nan, less coverage, but premiums jumped to $1,400 a month, with deductible at $16,000 a year. Which amounts to $32,800 out of pocket, should we need medical care.

And, fun fact, I needed a hospital that year and our only “covered” hospital was the indigent one … where those people get seen for free. We got a different, more expensive plan the next year.

I personally think it all sux and that the government and the middle man need to get out of the way.

If you have a small business, there are companies who price out insurance rates … for no charge to you. Might be worth a look. You can get small business insurance as a husband and wife. It only requires 2 people.

▲ 1 ▼
– thekingofracine [S] 1 point 253 days ago +1 / -0

That's weird, in 2010 my plan went from 1200 a month to 400 and it stayed very low until yesterday - also everyone else I know has the same issue.

Starting yesterday you can no longer get small business insurance for just a husband and wife, you need at least 3 employees. If you don't have 3 employees they are going to raise your rates 75% until July 1, then drop you.

Am I the only one who reads these things?

Why? It was the 2018 GOP that ended the restrictions on health insurance companies that let them instantly raise rates the day they were allowed to.

How do you blame a jackass who left office a decade ago for something happening today that was setup by a congress 8 years ago?

The gop wants you to blame Obummer because it's an easy out and gets you mad, the reality is that the GOP gets MASSIVE donations from the health insurance companies. ALL OF THIS is public information, go look it up.

That's not really how it is. Obamacare subsidizes premiums with our tax dollars and makes insurance cover lots of unneccesary shit. Everything now cost 3X as much. The subsidy being paid is part of why our taxes are so high. Non workers get 100% subsidy. It will only get worse. Time to let it fail, then go back to how insurance used to work. Mine is going up$600/month too. Those getting the most subsidy gets hit hardest. They will scream and cry about it. Obamacare should be eliminated. What part aren't you getting?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– thekingofracine [S] 1 point 254 days ago +1 / -0

This is incorrect.

The ACA doesn't cover or have anything to do with medicare or welfare or illegals.

You are burping up BS talking points issued by health insurance companies that shove fistfulls of dollars into Mike Johnsons pockets.

The restrictions give guidelines for how much health insurance can cost and how much health insurance companies can charge for things. With the ACA subsidies and the rules around them gone, the health insurance company can charge you whatever they want whenever they want.

It's going up $600 today, but tomorrow it will be $1000. Then more and more. They are wringing us dry and paying the GOP to let them do it.

All of this is public, go look it up.

The bill the idiot democrats pushed was actually decent. On page THREE it said all non-US citizens were banned from participating in the system. Go read the damn thing yourself.

it also capped what insurance companies can charge for care. But, the BBB kills that part, so Health Insurance companies can charge whatever the hell they want, whenever they want. So today, they jack up the ACA. Tomorrow it is all insurance because they can. That $200 aspirin is going to be $500 on Jan 1 for everyone because UnitedHealthCare shoves money into Mike Johnsons pocket and he smiles and tells people like you that illegals will get health care so YOU have to pay double, smile, and eat your shit sandwich.

Heart and cancer problems are on the rise because of the jab. There are a lot more chronic illnesses in children because of all the vaccines they give them and the food additives.

I say this knowing full well it's going to piss people off, but it's the truth;

Your premium jumped because the enhanced ACA subsidies that lowered Marketplace prices are expiring. They were created under the American Rescue Act during Covid and have consistently been renewed each year by Congress. And this year when they had to be renewed again, that renewal got tangled up in the budget fight that triggered the shutdown.

Democrats have been pushing bills like H.R. 247 – Health Care Affordability Act of 2025 to make those credits permanent, while GOP negotiators left them out of their funding proposals. Because insurers must set rates months ahead, they priced plans assuming those credits might lapse, so that’s why you’re suddenly paying more.

So your cost spike is directly tied to the same standoff that shut the government down. If Congress passes a funding bill with the subsidy extension, premiums will fall back toward 2024 levels.

I'm in the same boat. I run my own business and get my insurance through the exchange as well. So when I saw mine skyrocketed, I went to do some research on why and this is what I learned. 🤷‍♀️ It sucks.

As ridiculously high as that is, it's still a lot lower than my grandparents were having to pay just a few years into the induction of the ACA. And that was for just the two of them. If you have your whole family on that, it's a "bargain." /s I'm sorry that I don't know anything about what the GOP did, so can't speak to that, but maybe it's a ploy (a stinking expensive one) for them to make obamacare look even worse and to initiate change. In the meantime, it hurts, I know. Sorry.

You are the first person in this thread that is sort of correct.

The GOP are screwing over everyone who has health insurance to make the ACA unattractive to everyone in the hopes that people will say Hell No and push congress to change things.

Except look at the rhetoric around this, every GOP member is out there lying through their teeth and saying our choices are either we have to pay a lot more or some illegals get health insurance. Go read the democrat bill, it specifically bans all non US citizens from getting coverage. It's literally on Page 3.

Have you read it? Has anyone on this board? Or are they just listening to talking points that are designed to piss you off?

The uniparty has always been willing to hurt The People in order to get their way. But as is always the case, the democrats will create as much destruction as possible, as they themselves go down.

The republicans can't and shouldn't cave based on one issue. It's important The People know who has put them in that situation. I don't blame the repubs.

Somewhat relevant, I haven't been sick since college... now on medicare. I was scheduling my first surgery ever... cataracts. I have a supplement policy also. Never used any insurance except annual checkups. Been organic for 40 years. Anyway...

The cost of surgery was $7000. Insurance company would not cover it and called it cosmetic. They only covered the basic surgery which doesn't correct the near or far sight problems. I pointed out that being able to see to drive is not cosmetic. I spent 2 days and 9 hours with the insurance company. FInally found a common sense human being and we cut a deal. Now the surgery will only cost me $320.

My reason for this story is that I am sure most people would never try to negotiate with insurance companies regarding their lack of coverage. I recommend it. At least this time, my first time... they gave in and covered it.

Remember, the only way insurance companies make money is by NOT paying.

One win! Applause please!

I’m currently shopping for a Medicare supplement and I’m surprised that none of the coverages are carrying Silver Sneakers anymore. This allows retired seniors to work out at any of thousands of participating facilities around the country.

The health insurance market has been federally subsidized for years. Unfortunately for you, this is the outcome.

I had a party 40 years ago after I went on Medicare. I went from $1,000 monthly with a $4,000 deductible to about $400 total outlay a month. I know your pain.

Did you read the democrat bill? They want to put caps in place on what Health insurance companies can charge, like all other countries have. It wouldn't be a subsidy.

United Healthcare only spent 11% of their revenue last year on paying for medical care. The other 89% went to employee pay and office buildings and the $35 million dollar bonus for the guy who took over from the guy who got shot. Maybe it was hazard pay?

My wife and I had Obomber care for 3 years. I never used it, but my wife's knee went out one year. We ended up paying almost $12,000 out of pocket that year. Had to make payments to the hospital. Made payment to the hospital for months. Absolutely the worst insurance ever.

Yep, it got gutted in 2018 by the GOP. If it stayed how it was in 2016, that would have been limited to a $1500 payment. Go read the bill.

Pay about 12k annually, 60/40 split. Employee pays the lower amount. Not many could pay it all on their own.

Insurance is a racket.

Pay for something you can't use because of a high deductible.

Then get denied after you reach the deductible.

I don't know what the answer is but the system is designed to do what it is doing.

Endeavor to persevere fren.

I agree, did you read the democrat bill, it's the first thing I ever agreed with them about. They are capping what the companies can charge and limiting denials.

Go look up who health insurance companies donate all their money to in Congress, I'll give you a hint, they're currently in power.

I did not read the bill, not because I am not interested, but because I have limited time.

I need support staff to keep up with this time line.

Yeah? What happens if you break your arm? Break your leg? Get in a car accident? Have a heart attack? Get attacked by a dog?

You gonna rub some lotion on it and pop on a bandaid?

Do you know how to do stitches? Set a bone? Repair soft tissue damage below the skin?

Do you know how to do all of that well enough to do it for your kids? Your wife?

Or, are you just saying something that feels good in the moment and it's bs?

My 2cents worth: Think about it and follow the money. My sister was charged 39,000 for a broken arm, 1 x-ray, 2 nurses (that she saw), 1 doctor (for ten minutes), 1 office, the casting materials, and all the support staff. She was in the E.R. for about 3 hrs. Now way in hell that it cost the hospital that much. But the hospital and big pharma has spent millions lobbying congress and HHS to let them charge 10 dollars for an aspirin. It should tell people something that in some private hospitals in other countries will charge 1 or 2 percent of that bill. Those countries allow private hospitals. In this country, they are not plentiful due to all the regulations (which are also lobbied for).

The biggest thing that gets me thinking, is all the church leaders (which the lobby also pays) say they believe in Jesus Crist, but urge all their congregation's to participate in and use Pharmakia. They know that the good book is against it, but their bosses get paid to push things like the clot-shot. That's another reason i will never go to church in a building, Faith is better near a stream, or a mountainside, or a field anyway!

Try looking at the Medicare tax scam and you might feel lucky to get any TAXPAYER-FUNDED subsidies for Obamacare (think Socialism where someone else’s taxes pay for your healthcare subsidies) .

You and your employer pay Medical Taxes for 50 years and, then, when the government forces you on Medicare, they still charge you a premium for both Part B and Part D-drugs. And the coverage is sooooo bad, you have to buy another insurance called supplemental. It costs my parents over $200 MORE a month than their employer sponsored coverage AFTER PAYING TAXES FOR 50 YEARS! And, if you did what you were supposed to do and saved into your 401k to have a decent retirement, the government FORCES you to take out a certain percentage at 73 which not only pushes you into a higher tax bracket which can trigger an IRMAA penalty! So you can pay for Medicare 4 or more times!

  1. Taxes from you and your employer for 50 years
  2. Medicare monthly premiums
  3. Part D drugs premiums
  4. Supplemental insurance premiums
  5. IRMAA penalties for planning for your own retirement at multiple penalty levels triggered by RMDs.

My parents PAID Medicare taxes for 50 years and now, it’s like those taxes completely disappeared and they are having to pay from scratch all over again.

MEDICARE TAXES ARE A SCAM!

My wife now has to buy her own health insurance starting Dec1st. She goes in once a year for a check up, not on pills. Medical ,dental, vision, 1450 per month with a 7k out of pocket. This will hurt us badly, I am retired with 2100 s.s. and a small pension. We are the lucky ones ,because we have enough money saved up to pay for it till she gets on Medicare. We just won't be able to do much of anything, for a long while.

I already received letters that my Medicare Part B was going UP January 1, 2026 as well as my Part D prescription insurance AND my Blue Cross supplement insurance!! We don’t even know yet what the SS COLA is!! Also, the coverage deductibles went sky high! There is no recourse once you reach Medicare age….you just pay pay pay!!

▲ 1 ▼
– thekingofracine [S] 1 point 254 days ago +1 / -0

It's going up about 50% and deductibles will go up closer to 100%.

Also, the GOP is going to be pushing people off medicare over to the ACA, after they've rigged it to be too expensive.

When I figured all this out, I thought my MAGA friends would be mad as well, but everyone of them thinks they have to pay big bucks to make sure that illegals don't get free health care ... how does that even make sense? All the bills state right up front you have to be a citizen to participate. Go read it! Or call the company and ask.

This whole thing is insane.
