We've also released 58 Million barrels of oil from the SPR in the last two months. That's the only thing keeping the price from truly sky rocketing https://www.spr.doe.gov/dir/dir.html
You're 100% correct, it was not. People seem to be very willy-nilly about it. You never want to dip into it to ease the price at the pump. It's for very targeted strategic war-time use.
Things I think people do not understand about the SPR:
It's not barrels of oil ready to go. It's multiple huge caverns that were made by dissolving the salt found there with water, hollowing out the space to make the cavern.
We then pumped oil, free flowing crude, into these caverns. When we need oil, we pump it out and put it in barrels
Because of this, drawing too much out can literally cause the cavern to collapse and need to be re-drilled/repaired, etc. We are months and months from that, but trending that way.
Someone made a great graph last month based on DoE reports:
TL;DR - At current drawdown levels the theoretical, everything goes great pulling it back out, is Feb 2027. We'll see how much we drawdown in June and the rest of this summer.
California gas prices to go up to like $8 might get voters questioning loyalty to Dems? — Mr. Juan’s (107) thoughts, even up to $$10 if more refineries close ( as they do not mert green refinery standards
Traveled through NC/VA/PA last weekend and the prices were semi-astronomical...$4.05 - $4.35 per gallon. I swear, though, coming back home to SC this past Wed...I could've SWORN that per-gallon prices had already dropped. Were they only lower in SC? Or were they artificially inflated in the purple/blue states I just mentioned, via gas taxes, etc.?? Hard to tell...but maybe not.
I've driven between NY and FL a few times in the past few years, and PA ALWAYS has the highest gas prices! Kind of ironic, since the first oil well was drilled in PA!
They were 4.49 in my small town. The nearby larger city had them 10-20 cents cheaper. First they dropped to 4.29, then a week or so, 4.09. 4.49 is the highest price I have ever seen in Mo. There are stations here with 3.89 and dropping. I think we've seen the highest prices and we are on the downward move, thank goodness.
Same in rural Ky. It’s strange we’ve always been .30-.40 cents below Louisville metro, but for some reason, even with the mythical summer pollution proof blend, it’s much cheaper in the cities now.
As a Californian this is crazy to read lol, when I started driving in 2007 and during Trump’s first term were both the only times I can recall gas being under $4 average here.
Oil industry doesn't give a shit about whether we have supply or not. They will adjust rates based on "future supply". They basically took advantage of the war to make more money.
Energy independence would infer that we are using our own oil, or buying from sources in our regions that are not impacted by actions in the Middle East. That would eliminate the "future supply" argument. That should also open up domestic oil companies to investigation on suspicion of price gouging.
They just use the global crude spot price to justify the gas prices. If you think the oil companies ripoff people, just buy stuff at Home Depot! I bought a plastic electrical junction box a few days ago, and just the cover, which is just a flat piece of plastic about 3" x 4", was over $2.50!
Pretty sure it's because we've never really been energy independent in any way that really matters when it comes to what the consumer pays and the oil and natural gas industries are very complicated, yet people just assumed that because we produce a lot or oil and natural gas that volume alone means independence.
I tried explaining this to people last year when they were pushing for a full on war with Iran, and with this going on now, because they thought we wouldn't have any economic fall out because we are "energy efficient". No one listens.
We are - but the rest of the world who relied on oil coming through the strait still needs oil.
What happens when supply goes down but demand stays the same? Price goes up. Nations across the world started bidding for our oil - it's an open market. Our oil companies don't have an American price per barrel, and an Everyone else price price per barrel.
When Trump mentioned folks buying American oil and sending their ships to gulf, he's right - but that increased the price folks are willing to pay around the world for our oil. Good for folks in the oil industry, not great for us.
If diesel could come down a $1.00 + the cost of most products would drop because of the shipping surcharge that is tacked on.
The other thing… why is fuel prices so wild from station to station, some different as $1 in a few blocks!
Myself, my husband, at that time, and my brother, travelled the USA in 1969, lived for 6 weeks in a 1961 Ford Falcon while we were hippy-ing all over...we were 16yr old...gas was a whopping 23¢ a gallon, I remember filling up for around $3.00...the Falcon never broke down or anything.
Spiritized. Kind of an odd word don’t you think? Must mean something specific. To imbue something with a soul. Odd choice of word in this context? Thoughts?
Gas is 4.19 in southern Pennsylvania and 3.49 just across the border in Maryland. I did drive to Maryland today for the sole purpose of cheaper gas. Dems in Pennsylvania keep the gas tax high.
That would put it at September.
I am not surprised, because all the BIG stuff will happen in October - October surprise for midterms.
It's starting to drop like a rock when you look at https://www.gasbuddy.com/charts.
Amazing what happens when you have a president that actually cares about the country and not what they can get away with in a "lame duck" 2nd term!
Yes. I check Gas Buddy each day too and it has been steadily dropping by a few cents every day.
Yes, 68 cent drop where I'm at from the peak just over the last 2 weeks. I think we will see a steady drop through fall.
We've also released 58 Million barrels of oil from the SPR in the last two months. That's the only thing keeping the price from truly sky rocketing https://www.spr.doe.gov/dir/dir.html
how much longer can they continue that? it was never designed to be used as a market manipulation.
You're 100% correct, it was not. People seem to be very willy-nilly about it. You never want to dip into it to ease the price at the pump. It's for very targeted strategic war-time use.

When does the SPR run dry
TL;DR - At current drawdown levels the theoretical, everything goes great pulling it back out, is Feb 2027. We'll see how much we drawdown in June and the rest of this summer.
It's a bad market feedback loop IMO.
If the current policy patterns hold, the SPR will be emptied and never refilled.
As a one-time DoE employee, I would be wary about putting much faith in published numbers.
It what manner? It’s underreported?
Oh he's getting another term. America will beg him to run once Declas happens.
👌🙏🏻👌

They've dropped 40-60 cents a gallon here in SE MO over the past 3 weeks.
Traveled through NC/VA/PA last weekend and the prices were semi-astronomical...$4.05 - $4.35 per gallon. I swear, though, coming back home to SC this past Wed...I could've SWORN that per-gallon prices had already dropped. Were they only lower in SC? NC here, I paid 4.29 this morning for regular and that was the cheapest around.
3.61 in Wilmington
SC always jas great gas prices compared to where i am in Fl. Possibly lower taxes.
Yeah, you're probably right. It's so WILDLY variable on the East Coast lately...but hopefully for not much longer.
As a Californian this is crazy to read lol, when I started driving in 2007 and during Trump’s first term were both the only times I can recall gas being under $4 average here.
I know, fren...and I'm sorry. I'm sure you have an allegiance to CA, and I get that. And most of all...I'm sorry you have to pay those gas prices. :/
N.C. and S.C. are different because of the state tax per gallon is higher in N.C. I believe.
Dropped from 390 to 309 at Sam’s Club in Knoxville TN in the past 3 weeks.
MO is a great place to live.
... I like it....
😁👍🇺🇲⚡
Same here on Texas coast Angel...
I hate to ask this, but if we’re energy independent, why did gas prices rise in the first place?
Oil industry doesn't give a shit about whether we have supply or not. They will adjust rates based on "future supply". They basically took advantage of the war to make more money.
Energy independence would infer that we are using our own oil, or buying from sources in our regions that are not impacted by actions in the Middle East. I agree. The oil industry doesn't care though. They're betting on you blaming anything and anyone else than them for the price increase
^

Everytime I hear the "experts" say they're "surprised," I question their competence.
"The Experts" is a psy-op
One you realize that everything in the media is a “jedi mind trick” it all starts to make sense.
That's what they want everyone to think
Already down to 3.23 at Sam’s in DFW area
Sam's in S. Alabama is 3.35 now. Don't know how much it is at the 3 gas stations around the Sam's club but usually are higher than Sam's.
in asset trading, those are called "pullbacks" that offer an opportunity to buy long before the price goes even higher.
👏
Diesel was over $5 4 weeks ago her in west Houston. It’s now $4.59.
Diesel prices have so much of an impact on the economy. I’m not sure people realize how much trucking costs figure into the sticker price.
it's ok though, we're in the greatest economic "boom" since ever, haven't you noticed?
If diesel could come down a $1.00 + the cost of most products would drop because of the shipping surcharge that is tacked on. The other thing… why is fuel prices so wild from station to station, some different as $1 in a few blocks!
I paid $5.19 per gallon on diesel in VA yesterday.
I haven’t checked since Thursday, but it was 5.46 in Louisville and surrounding areas then.
Under promise, over deliver. It is already trickling out of the strait.
Injust paid 2.99 gal. Down from 4.29 just two weeks ago.
They’re down 50 cents in my town from last week.
Our gas prices have dropped all the way down to $3.17 for regular and 3.67 for diesel. A week ago it was over $4 a gallon.
What general area?
Myself, my husband, at that time, and my brother, travelled the USA in 1969, lived for 6 weeks in a 1961 Ford Falcon while we were hippy-ing all over...we were 16yr old...gas was a whopping 23¢ a gallon, I remember filling up for around $3.00...the Falcon never broke down or anything.
already down 50 cents where live
Spiritized. Kind of an odd word don’t you think? Must mean something specific. To imbue something with a soul. Odd choice of word in this context? Thoughts?
Already started..

They already dropped more than a dollar in my area.
the democrats and rhinos will fight him everyday to try and ruin our country
Gas (93) down 50 cents in past month in CT
