"Waking hours" should be when the sun comes up, not when your schedule says it is. This seems totally backwards, should be making standard time permanent.
The ideal compromise. Imagine having an extra 30 minutes a day. That would be a generational move forward, and then even the Democrats would have to give President Trump the credit.
Sunrise and sunset times heavily depend on time of year, latitude, longitude within the time zone, etc. We can't live like that anymore which is why we invented clocks. DST gets us more usable light time and reduces the number of traffic accidents so for many it's superior.
Every recommendation across the board is to make standard permanent, for some reason Trump said DST should be permanent. I'm going to take his side in this though.
I just experienced that! I wintered in the Philippines renting a small outbuilding from my friends. They don't go to sleep with the chickens anymore but they do get up with them... A mid-day nap replaces the early evening sleep missed.
The Sun rises about 5:30am, and sets at around 5:30pm all year round. There's a little variation but not so you'd notice day to day. No need for fancy stuff with time.
Er.. I agree on not changing the time, but you are incorrect about sunrise and sunset timing. It varies by how close you are to the equator and poles.
In Nashville, TN, sunrise and sunset fluctuate by about 2 to 3 hours over the course of the year due to the Earth's tilt. Sunrise ranges roughly between 5:40 AM and 7:15 AM, while sunset fluctuates between 4:30 PM and 8:05 PM. Additionally, Daylight Saving Time causes sudden 1-hour shifts in spring and fall.
Daylight Saving Time was primarily implemented to conserve fuel and energy during times of crisis. By shifting clocks forward in the spring, governments aimed to maximize the use of natural sunlight and reduce the need for artificial lighting during evening hours. The concept was officially adopted on a large scale during World War I. Germany became the first country to implement it in 1916, and the United States formally adopted the practice
Iβm in no way supporting daylight savings time, however as stated in the AI, it made it light later at nite. And in the early decades of the 20th century and before it saved on candles and oil for oil lamps which was the predominant source of light. With electricity it became less important in modern countries, but in poorer countries it is still somewhat like that.
For instance, most Filipinos earn about 10 bucks a day yet electricity costs double our rates. So they have conservation of power more in mind
Winters are already hell in the PNW being pitch black when you have to get up. This would just add another hour of hell to the morning pitch black. I'm gonna have to vote no on this one.
Working less is the path to civilization collapse. We have artificial lighting, we can work for as long as we need. The whole problem with the kids these days is that they don't know how to work. I think once the Great Awakening happens, the standard work week will increase to around 48-50 hours a week. This will help realign our values as a nation. So many problems come from giving young people too much free time. If you're working 50 hours a week, you don't have time to question your gender identity or be gay.
Oh this is SUPER important compared to all the other shit that needs to be cleaned up in America. That's sarcasm for anyone that is a bit slow.
They can literally change this last. Also how does "we the people" ever come into play if the senate just whack a moles anything a president they don't like tries to do.
Basically corrupt gov does everything a corrupt president wants to do and nothing a good one wants.
This is why President Trump should have the power to abolish and appoint senators at will, just like he appointed Lindsey Graham's sister. That would solve so many problems. Congress has their checks cut from the treasury, which means they work for President Trump and can be fired if they do not perform in their duties.
No, this will give us more time. If we add an hour fall and then freeze it, we will have an extra hour. Democrats are angry that President Trump came up with this plan. It is absolutely brilliant of him to push this now, right when they are trying undermine him. Red wave is incoming. ETA? November.

We should instead have standard time the whole year, as we did before DST started. DST does not add any more hours of daylight. There are more during the summer anyway. It's just a matter of what time you decide to get up and go to bed. If any companies or school systems don't like it, they can simply change their hours to match the sun better. Noon is supposed to be when the sun is highest in the sky.
BTW, before the railroads created standard time zones in the 1800s, every city had their own local time based on the sun. Almanacs had tables showing all the major cities in the US comparing their local times, so it might be 9:00 AM in one town and 9:05 AM in another not far away.
Seems like they could just leave normal time normal. Why DST?
More light after work and during waking hours.
"Waking hours" should be when the sun comes up, not when your schedule says it is. This seems totally backwards, should be making standard time permanent.
At the very least, they could have split the difference. Adjust everything back by 30 min.

Don't have any clue.
Daylight Savings time was supposed to give farmers more morning hours with light
Go to bed with the chickens and rise up with the chickens is all a farmer needed.

That makes no sense. Farmers work feom dawn to dust no matter what time dawn hits.
I was wrong, I just AIed it...

It was never about the farmers. Farmers hours are based on the sun, not some man-made time construct.

I didn't know that.
Please happen! I hate changing all the clocks especially in my car!
Same here. I hate changing watches.
Changing the time on my VCR is a bitch kek
Oh yes.
Ten bucks sez it dies in the Senate because Trump likes it
Most likely.
Children will be traveling to school in the dark. We should stay on Standard time all year long.
On standard time, children will be traveling from school in the dark. Dark evenings are more dangerous because drivers are tired from their workday.
Some of the frogs here like that. I don't have any opinion. Just pick one.
The bus picks up the neighbors kids at 6:55am from nov-feb- itβs dark out. So that argument holds no water.

Are the liberals screaming in the streets yet how this is just like hitler?
Not yet. I have not heard.
They're upset that they didn't think of it first and are scrambling for reasons to not pass it.

Worth tracking the 1973 change. Basically when daylight shifts, it seems people naturally want to adjust their schedule.
The truly rational thing to do may be to work less during this time period. Looks like the Romans did that, with hours shrinking to almost 44 minutes.
Also be on the lookout for ten days of darkness deltas. Seems to land in the right time frame.

Good one. Thanks.

Hopefully people will establish a good sleep patern without having to change every 6 months.
I certainly would love it now.
May not pass.

This is too stupid.
Arizona: welcome to the party, pal!
Right. What happens to the states that have voted to stay on Standard Time year-round? What a mess.

Cut the bottom foot off of a blanket and sew it to the top. Now you have a longer blanket.
Idc either way, just pick one. The dog can't tell time and pesters me at feeding time when I'm trying to take a nap! kek

Stealing one hour from all?
Time is a make up thing. You cannot steal anything that is made up.
THEY like controlling the time, because they're really enjoy controlling us.
Of course
Well time seperates past, present and future and is not made up in that sense.
That's true until Elon makes a space ship at the speed of light.
Even then, it is all relative. Not to mention, travelling that fast makes you shorter
There is only the eternal now.
Everything else is made up.
Wisdom.
Reminds me of the book Einstein's Dreams. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/14376.Einstein_s_Dreams
Depending on when they set the time, some cities in the west wont see sunrise until 830 AM. Not sure this is the best idea
Thank you!
