Wine allows you to use windows software, but I would consider using native Linux software. It is usually better, and free. Ardour for instance. As far as VST's go with Ardour, it has some awesome stuff available. I use the CALF plugin set mainly. It may be better than the pay stuff. Worth looking at. Don't throw good money/time after bad, as they say.
