Whoa! Mayor of Colorado City, TX just resigned after making this FB post. TLDR: The government owes you nothing, and you’re on your own for this cold snap.

I agree with the handout part & that we shouldn’t expect the government to save us but the frail & the elderly need a hand in times of trouble & not everyone has family. Helping people is part of being a good human.
I want my government to make sure the water flows, the streets are paved, and the electrify provides a consistent current.
He is not wrong. People should be to a certain degree self-sufficient. But the government telling people they are owed nothing when we pay taxes is lunacy. You should not expect the government to put food on the table for you and your family if you are capable, but it should be out there doing something during an emergency.
Exactly. This is why we pay taxes. They take our money so that we can have water, electricity, etc. We have paid for these services with our tax dollars. So in this case, YES the gov't DOES owe us these things. WE PAY FOR THEM.
I agree that we should all be more self-sufficient. But my gosh what does he expect people to do? Stores are out of everything, here. I had a feeling something was going to happen like this last month, so I stocked up. But not everyone can afford to stock up. If you're living paycheck to paycheck, you buy what you need for a week or two at a time.
And these people are fine with the gov't taking all of our tax money and telling us we can't open our businesses, but heaven forbid they make sure we have electricity and clean water.
I absolutely agree with you all. When I think of a handout I’m thinking more like welfare type stuff. The things we pay for are far from a handout and helping those who can’t help themselves is something we should all try to do.
this is just a calculated misapplication of this sentiment used against the taxpaying hardworking orioles who typically hold this position correctly toward people who mooch off of others
Exactly. I pay my taxes and always pay my water bill and electric bill. This is not mooching. Mooching is expecting goods and services for free. This is expecting the service and products that I pay good money for. This is expecting our electrical infrastructure to be up to par. We found out that our legislators told the electric people to winterize our systems back in 2011 after there were some issues like this. They ignored the order and didn't do it. It's ridiculous.
No state tax in Texas though.
We have high property taxes and sales tax. Plus we pay for our electricity and water. We are paying for a product every month. Part of that contract is that we receive reliable electricity and clean water.
Figured as much.
I know! With all the regulations, we can't put a big windmill in our neighborhood backyards or go around chopping down random trees for firewood. We have to pay $$$ to dig a well for water, and everything has to be approved by the gov't. It's insane! While it is possible to go off grid, it is very difficult because how do you work and make $? Most jobs are closer to urban areas, so that makes a lot of people stuck. And even with a mostly self-sufficient lifestyle, you still need to be able to buy things. Ammo, gasoline, flour, sugar, salt, etc.
The government has made self sufficiency very very difficult.
Amen to you and everybody else who preceded you on this thread.
This country and this world desperately need more self-sufficiency, both for its own purpose, and for the character it build...but the time to promote it is not when it's 10 below, like, "Surprise and Fuck You!"
Doing so now, in that way, is nothing less than a psy-op attack on self-sufficiency, making it seem disastrous and callous, when it's fully the opposite.
I completely agree! It's insanity. My husband are seriously considering getting some land and homesteading. Anything to lessen our reliance on the government. The problem is, we still need to live close enough to his work. So it's really hard to find a rural enough area. Our area is exploding, so there are a lot of places that used to be very rural, but suburban neighborhoods are moving in. It's difficult to know where we could go where that wouldn't happen.
It looks like he couldn't even be bothered to read his post before publishing it.
It's not like we have the option of not paying taxes, and making our own arrangements for the services govt. demands we pay for.
Government doesn't do those things. People do. Government should concern itself solely to protecting rights, punishing bad guys. Killing enemies.
We can feed and shelter ourselves.
The government does establish regulations for roads, water cleanliness, and rules on how electricity is deployed. Leaving it to the people alone without regulation is the fastest way to ensure a shitty job.
There has to be certain degree of regulation. Heck, deciding who are bad guys is regulation.
What you are suggesting is we return to the world of no regulation. Read a history book, we do NOT want to go back to the days of the robber barons.
That is just another world where there is absurdly rich few, massive amounts of poor folks, no middle class, and even less justice for the little guy than there is now.
Government doesn't do those things. People do. Government should concern itself solely to protecting rights, punishing bad guys. Killing enemies.
We can feed and shelter ourselves.
Why is anyone paying their electric bill if they aren't owed electricity? You pay for a service, then the service company is required to do everything possible to provide said service. Demanding that service company figure out how to prevent these issues in the future is hardly the same as asking for a handout.
It's kind of why we have public utilities, though. It's kind of their ... idunno ... JOB.
One thing is to not expect handout, another thing is to not expect the government to pull the rug from under your feet.
Fucking retard could not admit that even. Good he is done..
I don't agree! They take our money, don't they? If we paid no taxes or had to pay for electricity I wouldn't say a word that however is not the case!
So what have people been paying bills and taxes for?
Yeah. I agree with some of the sentiments, but he can kindly shut his trap, unless he's going to refund all the tax money the city has received during his term.
For a place like Texas that doesn’t have cold weather like their seeing this is a little shitty no?
Yes, its a psyop
The incorrectly spelled words stuck out to me.
Yeah, that caught my attention too. Seems fake, going to reflect badly on conservatives
Looks to be.
No, I think he’s asking people to try to take care of themselves, at those who can. Stop waiting on anyone, govt/neighbor/et al, to come to your rescue.
This is SPIN at its best. Shills making heartless responses here. Beware, this isn’s about welfare checks, its’s about people freezing during a weather related emergency! Imagine if this was Trump in office...We would see Emergency Help on its way. What is Biden doing?
All of this, yes. ?
This IS FACT.
Oh, he sure could have, but instead suspiciously worded it in a way as to be AS DAMNING AS POSSIBLE TO ANYONE WHO WOULD EVER ADVOCATE FOR SELF-SUFFICIENCY IN THE FUTURE.
It's simply the shadiest thing I've seen in a long time.
yeah this is the real point, he was trying to tell them to stop being whiny little bitches and said the quiet part out loud.
People pay water and electric bills. When doing so does not mean they have either in a weather crisis, they need emergency help. Chances are very good, he was not freezing his ass off or in the dark or dealing with animals that are dying from the bitter chill. If emergency assistance can't function because of the weather, then people in trouble are truly fucked. I doubt anyone who is in the shit weather right now is praising his asshole tone, whether he makes legit points or not.
There’s nothing to love or like or respect about a person who is abdicating his duty to help the citizenry during an unprecedented weather related emergency!
Don't be fooled by a clever insertion of some leftist sounding criticism. This is designed to make conservative look completely Heartless?
They should take their own boomer advice at the end there. What a useless being, why do they take our tax money if they can't help in times like this when government is actually needed?
So much for "protect and serve," huh?
People, for goodness' sake, have a little discretion. If only for once, just to experience what it's like.
Just because someone damns destructive socialism, and gives you the yippees in the process, does not mean he is not an incompetent douchebag who should have overseen continuity of paid-for utilities through an emergency. And then when this clown fails, he tells everyone that they should be digging their own wells and starting their own power plants in the middle of an epic cold spell. Beyond awful.
This guy is the King of Dickbags, and makes you all look ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC for cheering him on, when his obvious public purpose is to make anyone who now comes out in principled stand against socialism be easily classified as someone who wants grandma to learn how to dig her own well and generate her own electricity when it's 20 below.
Do you ever get tired of getting played?
Finally, well said by a real human.

Lol
What a piece of shit!
Exactly!
Actual chunks of dung resent that unfair comparison!
So I pay for gas and electric forrrrrr what reason than? Okay Ill stop paying all my bills and taxes! Sounds good to me!
Here is his resignation post:
All, I have set back and watched all this escalating and have tried to keep my mouth shut! I won’t deny for one minute what I said in my post this morning. Believe me when I say that many of the things I said were taken out of context and some of which were said without putting much thought in to it. I would never want to hurt the elderly or anyone that is in true need of help to be left to fend for themselves. I was only making the statement that those folks that are too lazy to get up and fend for themselves but are capable should not be dealt a handout. I apologize for the wording and some of the phrases that were used! I had already turned in my resignation and had not signed up to run for mayor again on the deadline that was February 12th! I spoke some of this out of the anger that the city and county was catching for situations which were out of their control. Please understand if I had it to do over again I would have just kept my words to myself and if I did say them I would have used better wording and been more descriptive.
The anger and harassment you have caused my wife and family is so undeserved....my wife was laid off of her job based off the association people gave to her and the business she worked for. She’s a very good person and was only defending me! But her to have to get fired from her job over things I said out of context is so horrible. I admit, there are things that are said all the time that I don’t agree with; but I would never harass you or your family to the point that they would lose there livelihood such as a form of income.
I ask that you each understand I never meant to speak for the city of Colorado City or Mitchell county! I was speaking as a citizen as I am NOT THE MAYOR anymore. I apologize for the wording and ask that you please not harass myself or my family anymore!
Threatening our lives with comments and messages is a horrible thing to have to wonder about. I won’t share any of those messages from those names as I feel they know who they are and hope after they see this they will retract the hateful things they have said!
Thank you
Tim Boyd(citizen)

I do agree that his wife and family should be left out of this matter. Otherwise, we are becoming like our enemies (democratic party and deep state) who destroy other people's lives.
He made multiple mistakes that make him look stupid while also spouting things our side agrees with, but in a more extreme manner and with very poor timing.
This reeks of a "false flag." Could be the guy is just an idiot, too, but I'm guessing it's intentional.
I don't live all that far from that place. The only thing notable about that town is a prison, otherwise it's a podunk small town.
But this'll be used nationwide by the pushers of socialism and the enemies of self-sufficiency.
It's so conspicuously damning to the actual cause of self-sufficiency as to be outrageously suspect.
He said parish instead of perish. What a tool.
We pay taxes for times like this, and he just wants to say “nah fam screw you”
Yet the government expects our taxes as a "handout" (RE: extortion).
The Corporation extorted our paychecks.
Shouldn't have signed into that contract voluntarily then. "The Corporation" doesn't send armed guards to your home to arrest you if you don't work for them.... yet.
This is a very different kind of corporation
He did not resign due to this post, he had already put in his resignation and the deadline for running again was like Feb 14th, the MSM literally made that up that he resigned... if you read his next post he addresses this fact
I am an Ohio country girl who lived most of my life way out of the mainstream way...I hunt, grew fruits and vegetables...had a well, a pond stocked with fish and could heat with wood, coal or conventional gas/electric. Also put in a big generator, that switched on when power went out...had a fruit/root cellar and canned more food than you can imagine. I could be self sufficient for months (even put in a 300 gallon tank for gas and smaller one for diesel )...got a pig & 1/2 cow each year and raised chickens for eggs and meat....I know how to survive! Hopefully the people who own my old place appreciate it lol...due to a physical disability and age I had to sell but still carry the knowledge...but here's the point, many out there in this world can't survive because they never had to. Times up I guess... This ex mayor is right and wrong at the same time..many people can't help themselves because of illness, disability or age....sounds like he had a breakdown from the pressure of the job to me...
Ummmm so what about the thousands of dollars we pay the government and power companies!?
This guy is a fucking asshole. That’s not how you speak to people who are suffering. Compassion is 100% necessary.
The next time the IRS calls me for taxes I'm going to show them this and tell them to fuck off.
Good luck with that.
My take on this:
To Be FAAAAAIRRRR if I'm paying for utilities they owe me utilities, but he is SPOT ON about being self sufficient. This is TEXAS, people should be a little tougher down there.
I like him
"Only the strong will survive and the weak will [perish]"
I'm taking it that this mayor thinks he is in Mad Max.
sounds like a sure way to get a job at your doorstep
Sorry, but what makes a hurricane ANY different than any other freak weather event?!! Government IS SUPPOSED TO AID IT’S CITIZENRY in times of crisis!!! You’re fired Mr.
That's some JFK thinking as in don't ask what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.
Texas was declared a National Disaster area due to the ice and snow. Since he was able to draw a paycheck while the rest of the people were expected to live on 1800 bucks for the last year, I would say his comments are out of line and he needed to resign!
the word you're looked for is hanged :D
and.....I wouldnt pay a single cent more in taxes after a statement like this.
Is this guy doing a prog's straw man conception of what a conservative is?
Yea I’m sure he sent this message right after his home generator kicked on. Fuck you Timmy!
How are people in an apartment supposed to be “part of the solution”? Get a generator and string cords to their second story? Put out a pan to collect rain water to drink? Having said that, I live in a place where the power goes out frequently because we live in a rural area in a deep blue state with an old electric grid put in during the Roosevelt era. So everyone and their dog has at least one generator, and we get lots of opportunities to use them each winter. But most folks in the cities are sitting ducks for this kind of disaster. I realize poor Tim Boyd probably snapped and wrote some stupid things—I would guess he had a few beers or some Jack Daniels when he posted that.
