McAfee was arrested by the Spaniards at the behest of U.S. government, likely the Treasury department. They’re going to want eyes on PROOF that he is dead.
McAfee said he was NOT going back to the U.S. He was found hanged in his cell a few hours after a Spanish court announced he was to be extradited to the U.S, McAfee had been languishing in a Spanish prison for the last 6 months while he lawyers fought against the extradition. McAfee was 75 and his health was not the best. He had become despondent, knowing that if he went back to the U.S. he would waste away in prison while the years went by fighting his case. In his case, when he says he has nothing left. I wouldn't be surprised if he's telling the truth. In this case my guess is the white hats put him in protective custody and could use his death as a reason to release the deadman's switch.
