Well said. Most people who say mean and nasty things would never utter the same things to another face to face. Some may mumble within ear shot, while surrounded by a crowd, a few barbs, but coward behind the crowd if confronted.
Whatever happened to being respectful?... To being a gentleman?...
It just blows my mind... sure, maybe if someone makes a post calling people out (I've done that myself) then you're inviting it and that's one thing. But to just leave a condescending or mean comment under a regular post is fucking insane to me and those people are simply losers with no value to this world...
I think its like an open throttle... the unchaining of the id. It makes some people have their insecurities and spites magnified and become dicks. Others go the other way, learning patience and insight, discernment and empathy.
Humanity has always been thus.. the double-edged sword and all that.
You should see the posts people are making on some social media (not fakebook) about some youtubers, directed at stay at home moms. The comments are so mean spirited and small minded I believe many have mental illness. Of course putting your children on youtube is just a bad idea to begin with, but the comments are vile.
This takes me back to a conversation I had with someone back in the old EQ days pre-Y2k. The problem is a lot of people do not know how to use words and grammar correctly -- these same people more than likely have a difficult time conveying their thoughts verbally as well. Unless one has a good command of language and understands what is in the lexicon and how to properly use it, expressing an idea or thought, no matter how inane, stupid, or brilliant can be rather tumultuous. Now given the medium of text communication, what was already difficult for some now has become insurmountable, so they regress to sounding like the ape creatures of the indus.
Yes, there are those who are always rude, trollish, puerile, and just outright masters of dimwittery online, and here on this board. It can be tough for a rational, reasonable person to deal with the aforementioned morons because you are taking the way you function in life and assume they do the same, and when they do not one is left head scratching wondering wtf is going on. There are two ways people handle this, 1.) ignore 2.) take them head on. The key is to recognize which approach to use, there is not a one size fits all approach to trolls, rude people or obvious stealth accounts. Evaluate the first couple of responses they make, then go from there. Many times ignoring works, but personally I take the "You need to get more fun out of life Clarice" method. One needs to have rhino skin, or better known as I don't care what your opinion of me approach is to deal with those kind of knuckleheads.
Dealing with trolls/rude people is the same that should be handled with bullies, they need to be dealt with, not ignored. Perhaps it is decades of gaming, or dealing with holier than thou jackasses in the tech world, but I like to see these people melt down. To see the high and mighty humbled is very fulfilling, especially those who are infected carriers of Dunning-Kruger.
If anyone behaves like an immature disruptor on my just-launched patriot website they would be immediately thrown to the curb.
I've had to give it a lot of thought, balancing free speech against yelling fire in a theater. In an online forum where there is important work to be done malicious children cannot be allowed free reign.
Imagine if the founding fathers at the first constitutional convention let all the rabble-rousers in from the street. It would be impossible to get anything done, except entertain the rabble-rousers. And we'd still be having our four o'clock tea, long live the king.
They way I conduct myself online is to talk to people as if we were talking in real life. I politely disagree, but if they're an A-hole, I'm three times worse... Just like in real life.
Social media caters to the lowest common denominator and that LCD among humans is a cesspool of degeneracy and stupidity and self-loathing. This is something I quickly became aware of in the days when we only had chat rooms and ICQ and the games we played ran on DOS. It is why I have never had a myspace, or facebook or twitter account; why I have never been on instagram or snapchat. It took this crises of tyranny to get me to watch a podcast or youtube or bitchute or rumble. Even then I have never made an account for these platforms and doubt I ever will. Once this crises is over I will again completely ignore the lunacy found in these places.
I agree, some people are dicks. However if you are willing to punch someone over disagreeing with your comment, maybe making the comment justified being punched. People are allowed to be angry. Dont become like the crazy far left.
Think about the pedo apologists. I think the shit that comes out there mouth deserves a bullet. Should we be polite?
I do get you...Im over all the BS but I see people trying to contribute to the site getting attacked basically because they are new and don't know a lot...That's BS...if they don't like the content they can just move on ....why be a dick?
If someone is expressing an OPINION and positioning it as FACT without sauce, they need to support their point of view OR plainly state that is their OPINION.
I see so many shills and trolls saying ____ isn't real, without any backing. There is NO difference between a person like that on GAW vs a REDDIT person saying Q is a larp/psyop or whatever. Show proof or at least evidence or say it's your opinion.
Yeah, when the internet was pretty young back in the 90s the big place for everyone to chat was IRC. And on IRC, especially EFnet, when you disrespected people "anonymously" a channel hacker like me would blast your ass into the next century with DOS attacks. Sometimes I miss the good old days of when someone pissed me off I could just obliterate them. The Internets version of a punch to the face.
Because they can. Most are pathetic, some are just mean spirited and nasty. I ignore them and have a laugh.
I've got a niece that's a wall flower in real life, and a total bitch online. Anonymity brings false courage.

Those are shills, trolls, and bots. Ignore and move on with your life.
Nah those are people I knew in high school or some lady down the street. Some people get on Facebook and go completely off the radar.

They learned their behavior from Bill and Hillary. If you can't debate the message, then attack the messenger with personal attacks.
Saul alinsky
One must know the tactics.
Comfort from their couch without the instant threat that comes from talking shit to someone directly.
Even a verbal threat in their face would put them in the hospital

Fuck you!! Just kidding, just kidding🐸
Lol

The internet gave pussies a platform.
The black boxer that bit someone's ear off is right. Social media has done exactly that and more....

Legalize dueling!
Raymond Burr has entered the chat.

That ONE thing will reduce anger in the ranks.
Couldn't agree more. I know I sound like an old lady, cuz I am, but I think social media is the downfall of society
My favorite quote of all time, a Tyson classic: "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face".... hahahahahaha :)
For the full flavor: “Evvybody hath a pwan until dey get punched inna mouf “.
He's on the Zoloft to keep from killin' y'all.
Back when we were a healthy society, there was the concept of “fighting words “.

Some of us want to fight.
If you've never been punched in the face then you have glass balls
I think the outlet is healthy, a price to pay for non censorship. We all just need to remember it's not reality.
Don’t piss in his fountain!
I'm the kind of guy to play anarchy Minecraft servers (known for toxicity) and distribute free stuff to newbie players.
How true.
