Gold and black have more traditionally been the tips for championship courses. When I reset the tees for our course several years ago, it actually restored the original layout of yellow, white, blue, black on the one course, and then added gold behind the blacks on the "Championship" course. Yardages have been much more user friendly and enjoyable for the majority of players. Nothing worse than watching a guy who can barely carry 225 off the tee and struggles to shoot low 90s, play the blue tees because he thinks that's where "real men" play. Sorry buddy, but you should be playing tees from around 6200-6300 yards, not 6600. It's not about the color but the yards. So we simply changed up the yardages, kept similar color layout, and using reverse psychology, MOST men keep playing blue tees BUT from only 6300 instead of 6600 😉
