When I go to the gym, everybody and I mean EVERYBODY, is looking at their cell phone. If they're not actually on a treadmill or using a weight machine, they're staring at their cell phone. In between sets, they're staring at their cell phone. It would be comical if it wasn't so scary. I'm the only one there without a cell phone. In between sets, I either pace the floor back and forth, or I'll hop on another machine. I don't own a cell phone and never had one. I can see how they would be useful in certain situations, but when I look around and see how people are so addicted to them, I don't want no part of it. The next evolution after the cell phone will be the chip. I can tell right now that people will be lining up to get the chip.

You can bet your bottom dollar everyone will line up for the chip if it gives them immediate access to social media without having to hold a physical device. It's truly the biggest addiction in the world right now, could even be worse than hard drugs... the dopamine and seratonin release that gets triggered from upvotes and likes... is a literal drug problem in of itself.
There are lots of studies on this, technology and social media withdrawal is a real thing. There are even physical and mental side effects. There are many people I know that get "phantom phone" ?
[The feeling of your phone vibrating in your pocket when it actually didn't vibrate or isn't even in your pocket]
How you know so much about a phone if you don't have one? "Lots of studies" ok Dr. phoneci
Anyone who quotes "studies" is a fuckin SPOOK
I just assumed you were op since you were commenting for him. Also "there were lots of studies on this....".
"I didn't quote studies".... "There's a ton of RESEARCHHHHHHHHH (LOL)". Back of to SPOOKytown with ya Alvin.
Old man walks around buck naked around the gym locker room for a half hour.
I would be that person, and I would most likely reading this forum
Technology is a blessing from God. He made the sand, the silica, the minerals, all of it
Knowing we would figure out how to use them to make our own magic.
There are some bad things on the internet
But there is a lot of good too
Open mind open heart, "looking at their cell phone" could be anything..checking on your kids or dogs..reading the Bible, playing a game, working on your business, etc
But using that same logic god 'blessed' is with stabbing instruments and gunpowder.
God put things here. How we use them or adapt and mold them is 100% on us. You can buy a leash to keep a dog safe, or you can use it to commit violent acts. The substance or item may be neutral in and of itself but turning it into a blessing or curse is 100% on us
I was having a conversation with somebody the other day, regarding people, being on their cell phones all the time. Their head is down, and they’re looking at their phone. I am wondering that overtime, if people will have humped backs, being transferred to our genetics.
When I am standing in line somewhere, and I’m on my phone, I try to be purposeful and hold my phone up in front of my face, instead of down around my stomach or my chest. That way my head is not pointing down. I think the position of how you hold your phone, in a public place, tells people if you are vulnerable or not. I always try to keep my head up, exude, confidence, and keep my eyes open and aware of my surroundings. This is the way.
My husband worked in physical therapy and has seen an increase in patients (especially adolescents) reporting with back/neck issues and hand/thumb issues related to phone use and gaming.
Thanks for the update. I kind of figured something like this would be a new trend.
That's not how it works. Lamarckism is very outdated. Sure, evolutionists still use it to claim that's how we evolved bipedalism, standing on tiptoes to see over the tall grass, but it's hocus-pocus phoney moroney. The danger I see is people will forget how to do basic things, iirc the region of our brains that deal with navigation/plotting a course is getting smaller, atrophying because no one has to think about directions to an area anymore, they just turn when and where the phone tells them. I don't think that will be passed down the hereditary line genetically, I don't think that's possible. People growing up without ever having exercised that region will probably be pretty dumb in a nimber of other ways though
100% agree, I do the same.
👍🙏🐸
I live in an urban area and went to my grandmother’s funeral a few years ago in the middle of nowhere. Like 30 minutes drive to cell reception middle of nowhere.
Anyway, after the service, everyone comes back to the church for food and I sat my useless phone on the table. And looked around. 100 people in there talking with one another and not a phone to be seen. I put mine in back in my pocket and was amazed at how everyone (even the kids) were conversing.
I’m still pretty addicted, but that stood out to me.
Talking with each other is becoming a lost art. Even the ads show two people sitting across from each other texting. It really is pretty tragic.
As a matter of fact, I'm reading and responding to this on my cell phone between sets in my garage right now. No joke.
And before that, it was Newspapers.
Not everyone gets along nor do they care to.
I had to get a cell phone when the Covid thing started (I am a teacher). I had to do a tracking thing to be able to go to work (it was so lame). Now I just use it to listen to podcasts in the car. I won't give the number to anyone. But my students always have theirs on in class next to their laptops. They just consider it a part of their life.
At the gym I use my phone to track weight/reps and follow a routine between sets.
We used to leave the house to get away from the phone and enjoy some peace and quiet. Now I’m like probably most everyone else, if I realize I’ve left my phone at home, I’ll turn around and rush back to get it. In my case I’m afraid someone will need me for some kind of help and I won’t be able to help them. As far as social media, this place and pw are my only addictions. I feel this is more informational than social though.
Cell phones and social media are like everything else in the world that has no free will. They have no intent and are neither good nor evil. What and how you use them determines if they are a positive or negative in your life. Being aware of the effect on your life is key, awareness is always the best antidote to solving your own problems. Only when you recognize the positive and negative in your life can you reinforce the positive and mitigate the negative. (Or the other way around, if you are a masochist).
Nice comment.
When I worked in Manhattan, people would get off the commuter train and the first thing they would do (and maybe they were already doing it) is stare at their cell phones when walking on the platform. Then, in Grand Central Terminal, it was a sea of cell phone zombies. If these idiots want to have their lives run by their little electronic device, that's on them, but what burns me is that people are DYING because these idiots are staring at their cell phones while driving, and likely for some meaningless post on Instagram or such.
I don't have much of anything in common with most of the people at the gym. If I didn't bring my phone, I would bring a book.
I carry my cell phone with me at my gym..but mostly stays in my bag. I pick it up when my album ends. If an emergency happens with friends or family I don't like to be out of touch. I don't play games on while at the gym or browse, etc. I also use it for notes. When I remember there's something I need to buy..I use my Notes app and quickly put it in there so I won't forget to buy it. When I go to the store..or Home Depot..I have a sub folder for that particular store..then I get what I need by going through my list. Yeah, I'll forget. Comes with old age. kek
I also have a disdain for the freakish device addiction. For me it is about watching the trends outside the scope of MSM. if the days of darkness are about to come there could be indicators. What if suddenly you picked up a phone and everything was blank. I really don't care WTF Karen is doing on Instagram.
Hopefully they're doing some good work on just blacking out social media cancer. There's tons of medical apps and specific devices for various machines. Those cannot be disconnected from the internet.
Good on you! Expect many people to 'mock' you for saying this. Yes, even here on GAW. Have no fear though. I have observed the same as you. I am in complete agreement with you. and here. It comes with the territory of pointing out the truth. I got rid of mine over 5-years ago. Never looked back. Ever since, I feel liberated and free from the minutia that runs 24/7/365 through the proposphere like a soap opera does on "As The World Turns". My wife tried to convince me I should have a cell phone for in case of an "emergency". This 'excuse' is the last line of defense. And I went along with it for a while, but I quickly realized there was never 'really' any emergencies at all. Instead, it was chit-chat talk that could wait for when I got home, especially the kind of talk that was categorically personal. One thing about cell phones is that it is never private and everything is collected. I like upholding and protecting my privacy as much as possible.
Cell phones are tracking devices. To me, it is quite apparent that they are being used to usher in the vax☠x passport, social credit system, and opens the door for the Beast system to be implemented. There will be people here that will try to justify their use, even advancing our cause, but if one does a SWOT analysis the threats and weaknesses has, up to this day, worked against us. For personal and private use, it is better to be without them.
And there seems to be finally a movement to do just that. "On a brisk recent Sunday, a band of teenagers met on the steps of Central Library on Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn to start the weekly meeting of the Luddite Club, a high school group that promotes a lifestyle of self-liberation from social media and technology. As the dozen teens headed into Prospect Park, they hid away their iPhones — or, in the case of the most devout members, their flip phones, which some had decorated with stickers and nail polish."

You could always bring a newspaper if you want to do the same thing, but oldschool.
Go to a restaurant, and you will see the same. People sitting at tables and booths starring into little screens.
I don't have one either, but I use my sons when I travel, in case of an accident or to all triple A. But I am just as addicted to my laptop. It's addiction, and I have to consciously discipline myself. I once stayed off line for 48 hours, and I saw the change in my energy (I had more) I did not get on line till 2001, and I was hooked from the start. Not always social media, but news, some forums, I will be standing at the sink doing dishes and think of something I want to know, random stuff, like a recipe or a gardening or health question, sometimes I will stop the task I am doing to go "look it up", and then I will also play games, chess, solitaire. I am sure as I lay dying I will regret the time I wasted. I used to read a lot, I used to paint, draw, write poetry. Yes, I am a slave, if I want on a religious retreat, I could get off of it, and I wish I could enforce that retreat at home, by myself. My sister said years ago that Bill Gates knew exactly what he was doing. Moderation in all things is kind of hard to practice when it is right there. It's like trying to stop drinking, but making sure you have a flask with you at all times, that never empties.
I don't want an electronic leash, thanks.
I'm with you . No cell phone. I endure the laughs knowing "he who last laugh , Laughs best "
It watches the screen or it gets the hose
I read an article somewhere that said more cell phones are made every day than people have babies. THAT is a lot of cell phones per day!
What hand do most people hold their phones in while reading social media?
Just curious.
