I suffered from vertigo for a couple decades. BPPV is the acronym. Epley didn't help me, just made me dizzier. I came up with a whole lot of things to help, I could probably write a book. Drop of oil of oregano mixed in olive oil in the ear at bedtime , lie on back so it goes down into the ear. Taking vitamin K2 to get calcium to where it's supposed to be. I avoid all known allergens which cause inflammation and thus pressure making vertigo worse. Do hard swallows to keep eustachian tubes open. I have much less of it now than I used to but can't point to just one thing that made it better. Glad to answer any questions.
There are some ass weasels that downvote everything. I don't know who they are or what their motivation is, but I have seen a lot of this. I only down vote stupid comments or obvious false information.
Otherwise, make sure she is hydrated, and minerals are attended to. the main ones are Magnesium, Sodium and Potassium.
Potassium deficiencies are very rare, however, and can get toxic if overdone. Try Magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts) baths, and eating table salt to taste.
I edited my reply. I had vertigo last year, so the mineral/water is how I dealt with it. Sleep is really important too, which if Magnesium is in short supply in the body, can be an issue.
There are actually 3 sets of semicircular canals that can have these loose crystals so the Epley is good for only one set. There are other maneuvers but they are less well known. “Log roll” for example https://dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/bppv/LC/log_roll.htm
Also if you are tending to have crystals get loose often you may be better to do repeated stimulation to “desensitize” like how a skater doesn’t get dizzy from spinning etc.
Balance is a complex undertaking involving brain interpretation of signals from nerves as well as the semicircular canals in the inner ear which detect rotation and acceleration. The “loose crystals” is what responds to Epley or other maneuvers. If you can make yourself dizzy then one form of treatment is to repeatedly perform the motion. If you do a set of motion 10 times it will be most intense the first time and with each repetition if it decreases then you can eventually desensitize yourself to the sensation.
Has she gone outside and done gardening and physical work with pick axe and shovel? Working with hunting type dogs helps —anything physically outdoors requiring sweat and exhaustion cures almost all of those issues— first world problems that don’t exist where humans are physically active
Change her diet. Cut our sugar/ less carbs. Detox. Sauerkraut
Sauerkraut flushes out oxalates/crystals formed from decades of build up from diet w/ rich oxalates - Spinach, Rhubarb, Almonds and cashews
Grits, Baked potatoes with skin, Beets, Cocoa powder, Okra, Bran cereals and shredded wheat cereals, French fries, Raspberries, Stevia sweeteners
Sweet potatoes.
I had vertigo and prone to motion sickness until I cut sugar from my life.
Speaking of oxalates, here is some information on why taking extra magnesium is helpful. I learned this in connection with a bout of kidney stones. Not fun. A Ph.D. chemist colleague advised me to take supplemental magnesium to ward off kidney stones. It turns out that kidney stones are typically crystals of calcium oxalate. Magnesium has the same chemistry as calcium, only more so. This means that in a solution containing both calcium and magnesium, the oxalate ion will preferentially combine with the magnesium to produce magnesium oxalate. So what's the point? Magnesium oxalate is more soluble than calcium oxalate, will not form crystals, and will pass out with your urine.
That's for kidney stones. But if calcium oxalate is forming as crystals in one's inner ear, the same rational should apply to the benefit of taking supplemental magnesium: a more soluble oxalate should be formed, and maybe even promoting the dissolving of any calcium oxalate.
And there are other benefits to taking supplemental magnesium.
Oh, gosh. I never pay attention. I am currently taking "Nature Made" magnesium glycinate. Elemental magnesium is available as magnesium oxide, but it is better to take a magnesium-amino acid compound because that is more readily assimilated by the body. I think I have taken magnesium citrate in the past.
I fully understand the trouble with oxalates, but how/where does sugar fit in? Can you please describe or send me a link showing the combination of the two making things worse?
It's just from my personal experience. I cut sugar /carbs from my diet and it hasn't returned in 5 years. I even went on a sail boat last Summer and was fine, no dizziness or motion sickness.
Things that cause water retention or fluctuations in pressure can cause the fluid imbalances in your inner ear semicircular canals. For people with episodic vertigo the doctors typically recommend a no CATS diet. Caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, salt. Sugar I think should be added as it causes you to absorb more water.
Also don’t ever take a diuretic to deal with this issue. Some dr. are fucking stupid about this one but it just compounds your misery.
You need to balance your water retention not fucking dehydrate yourself.
Lots of good advice posted here. If it is circulation related, take cayenne and ginger. It dilates the blood vessels.... There is no better stroke and heart attack prevention medicine. Cayenne will stop a heart attack and stroke in its tracks. Not only that, it prevents heart damage.
I have become pleasurable 'addicted' to its hot bite.... I mix it in my jelly and spread it on toast. At 130,000 Scoville scale (SHU), it's delightful and motivating. I add it to my eggs, salsa, mac and cheese, chicken, tuna salad, sardines,.... whatever.
I use powder and have a 3 lb. bag of 130,000 SHU. No running out here. I add cayenne to almost everything I eat. Anyway, I also buy 100,000 SHU cayenne capsule pills along with ginger capsules. I take one of each before going to bed at night. Supper time would be best....This is because it will do a challenging number on your stomach if its empty. The bag I bought is also for making a cayenne tincture for medical purposes. This is a good remedy to use on regular basis to improve circulation, fight free radical damage, improve antioxidant status and gain important nutrients such as vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin C, calcium and potassium. It is also wise to keep cayenne tincture on hand in case of acute accidents involving bleeding, or any unexpected cardiac episodes.
-- 1 cup of cayenne pepper powder
-- 1 fresh cayenne peppers
-- 2 cup of vodka
Instructions
1. Place the powder in a one-litre glass bottle and cover with alcohol. Blend up the fresh peppers with a little alcohol to make a thick mixture and add to the bottle. This mixture should be shaken regularly while it infuses for at least two weeks, or up to three months. After this time period, the tincture can be strained and poured into a dark glass bottle for indefinite storage...... Save lives.
upper cervical (blair method) chiro, not a regular bone popper type! My UC guy saved my life. I was falling and falling and felt physically disoriented. (old head injury and neck also) I tell people all the time, that an upper cervical chiro specialist, is the core need for things about balance, but it is rare anyone listens. It is sad. Go to Palmer Chiropractic College and search for one in your state, an upper C person who uses a Thompson drop table. Folks fly in and drive from other states to get help from mine (Tony Montoya, Scottsdale AZ) It's worth it
I had that problem, even went to a special PT--by the time I got scheduled it went away by itself. Has only briefly returned once. I think drinking more fluids helps, but I also think now that no one really knows. Just be careful bending over during the period when it happens.
I had vertigo real bad once after my surgical wound got infected and they doused me with so many antibiotics it melted the hair cells in my inner ear sacs. If she is using meds, espicially if taking several, she may want to talk to a REAL doc about cutting back.
I just read that taking antibiotics kills off healthy gut flora that keeps candida fungus in check and a byproduct of candida (especially an overgrowth) is oxalates.
I just had another bad episode earlier this week. Like your wife, the Epley Maneuver doesn't really help for me until the 2nd or 3rd day but it's worth doing it. I'm still a little dizzy right now but not nearly as bad as earlier. Nothing I've tried has worked as well as the maneuver. Good luck. It's a terrible feeling.
Sure, that makes sense. A violent movement like that could do it.
I was told by my doc that vertigo like this usually shows up as part of aging when someone reaches 70-80 years of age.
When it suddenly appears like this in someone much younger, it can usually be traced back to a bad head injury which can knock the crystals out of place.
She must have taken a very hard hit.
If this is indeed the case, it WILL get better. It will just take a while. In my case it was several years.
Spinning in place with arms out and breathing. Be around her when you do it. Do it 21 times, it helps train inner ear balance. Keep up with the chiro as well thats a long term thing
Dig on chiari malformation. It's often overlooked and slow to be identified. Doubt it the cause, but vertigo is a symptom. Took a very random doctor event to identify it in my wife.
Had it a few times, if the eyes don't stutter then you're good. Yt the tests find wich side is affected and do the moves few times a day for few days, after you learn to slow down and go through the right head movements before you get out of bed, that's when they crystals come loos and set in the wrong place
Working backwards, is there anything she can remove from her regimen first to see if there's a causative agent? Is she on any prescription or OTC meds? Is her blood pressure ok?
Found one paper that cited the Semont Maneuver as also being pretty effective
I saw or read that if one has enough vitamin D in your system it almost impossible to get sick. I take 20,000 IU per day with magnesium and full spectrum K2 once per week. I used to get allergies twice a year along with strep and the flu. I’m 75 and in great health. No I haven’t had my blood tested for vitamin D but the last test for regular blood work was all “green”. Vitamin D is cheap medicine for staying healthy and is key.
Thanks I would also mention that I take many other supplements but a good multivitamin with minerals is a good round out. Also ivermectin once a week as a prophylactic, looking like it may be the miracle medicine! Took statins for about a year then found out about how bad they are and took myself off. My heart doc said I was gonna have a heart attack but when the bloodwork came back all green he shut up <grin>. BTW Dr Berg is excellent, I’ve watched many of his videos.
Get it diagnosed. If it’s menieres, from personal experience I suggest the endolymphatic shunt and nothing else. The profusion will only cause more problems. Diet can help to an extent.
Do not waste your time and life on stupid fucking fringe “home remedies”. I’m speaking from personal experience and tremendous amount of time and money wasted.
I wasted 4 years and went damn near insane trying “natural remedies”. Do not waste your time.
Seek a neuro otologist. None of the other practices have a fucking clue on how to treat episodic long term vertigo.
Last thing if she was vaccinated you may want to just try and hold out 9 months for that shit to wear off. My mother took J&J booster and had episodic vertigo for 9 months.
Again, it can many different causes.
I went through all types of testing. Finally, a physical therapist determined that there was a slight ocular delay between my eyes and my inner ear. Physical therapy exercises helped me get through it.
In my case, it is much better to be the driver of a car rather than the passenger, because the body inherently knows what to turning motions to expect.
Cash doctors only since my healthcare plan was Obama-nated.
Best of luck.

Who is going through and downvoting personal experiences? What. a. douche. move.
I was thinking the same thing. I've noticed it a lot lately.

It works but you have to keep doing it.
Liquid iv is pretty good for that. They use real sugar and one stick per day usually keeps electrolyte levels stable.
Yes all your life -

Maybe try Sudafed. Not sure if it will help. Good luck and best to her!
I slipped on the ice once and slammed the back of my head on the driveway. Saw not only stars but a bright flash of light.
Concussion.
It also knocked the crystals in my ears out of place. Lots of vertigo for a while. Epley helped some. Eventually it settled down after a few years.
I knew what caused it, so was just patient with it. Was super careful on stairs. Good luck.

Boiron Conium 6c twice day til better.

Log roll. Have her lie down on the floor and slowly roll across the room. Once she is done, have her do the same in the opposite direction.

Excess histamine can cause vertigo, does your wife eat a lot of fermented foods?
