It is possible that Jack is a middle name (or short for a family name like Jackson), and that is just the name he went by. My great aunt passed away not too long ago and in her obit, it listed her parents and brothers who predeceased her, one of which was my grandfather. I was reading her obit and I was slightly confused thinking "where's Grandpa?" Then I remembered that with his family, he went by his middle name, but after WW2, he settled on the west coast and went by his first name. In her obit, they referred to him by his middle name.
