There are very specific time limits they have in place to help prevent something like replacing a candidate "at the last minute" (such as replacing Buyden). On top of that, they also needed to have multiple candidates on the Democratic Primary ballots in ALL 50 States, in the event the leading candidate can't continue due to illness or death, they could vote in the person with the second most votes at the convention. There isn't a plan already in place for something like what we're about to possibly see with Buyden, so they're gonna have to try to vote it out at the Convention? The thinking here is that by changing who the preferred candidate is at the convention (i.e. "at the last minute") it slights the "will of Dem voters." And it isn't allowed under the 2024 Democratic Party Convention by-laws.
Then there's the fact that he Dem Primary system is a winner take all system when the delegates vote at th Convention. The only people allowed to vote different than their State Party constituents are the super delegates. And there's only 800 of them. Even if they were given a 4 vote cushion, meaning for every super delegate vote, it counts as 4 regular delegate votes when nominating the Presidential Candidate, they still wouldn't have enough votes to overcome the 3,589 delegate votes that are REQUIRED BY PARTY BY-LAWS TO MAINTAIN THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE...b cusse there weren't any challengers to Buyden/Harris, ALL delegate votes must go to Buyden/Harris. Because there weren't any challengers allowed to register as candidates, they painted themselves into a corner they can't possibly get out of now. Not without running an open coup against Harris, the incumbent VP and as such, the natural order replacement for an incumbent President should "he" decide to step aside at the last minute. The best they can hope for is a Harris/Newsom or Harris/Whitmer candidacy in that regard.
