I remember it too! I was in my 20's.. going to college, I think people glommed onto the 'Nice old Jimmy' narrative much the same as they tried to sell Biden. Remember, it was directly after the Nixon Watergate fiasco and then stumbling Ford.

Whether it was worse or not is debatable, as we haven't had gas rationing under Biden. But Carter's inflation was less than Joe's, and immigration was much lower under Carter. But either way, that's the message I got from the image.

It has to be said...if he is able to more than double the size of the United States, and crush the deepstate, then history will absolutely remember him in the same breath as Thomas Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt; and I will reverse my carved-in-stone opposition to his (or anyone's) joining them on Mt. Rushmore. That piece features presidents from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries; the 21st is here; and transformational Trump would be the obvious choice.
Yes, without question he does deserve his own mountain. But with his eventually having soared to superhuman heights of accomplishment and carried the nation with him, our etching his place in history on that revered monument would be even more significant than a single statue. Not being a self-absorbed narcissist, as the media grotesquely caricatures him, IMO Trump gives a humble sense of preferring to be remembered among the other (albeit somewhat lesser :) iconic presidents in history over a lonely tribute to himself.

An example of sweater's utter stupidity as well as the staff who came with him, was we had received a letter from a constituent organization asking for a private bill to commemorate a 50 year anniversary, which was not allowed under the rules. So I passed it to the White House asking for a simple letter, explaining how house rules prohibited the request. The response? They explained to us how to introduce a private bill! I remember well my shock and outrage at the stupidity and second grade level of reading comprehension.
Our expectations of competency were considerably higher than now.

I lived in Panama for a couple decades. The canal was run amazingly under Americans but it went to shit after Panamanians took control. They cut a ton of the rainforest near the canal to build, but that reduced the rainfall needed to run the canal and so now they have a water shortage and it's affecting our exports because the canal can't run properly anymore.
Take it back Trump!
If we manage to regain the Panama Canal, expect China to attempt to revive the Nicaragua Canal project.
