The private sector workers have been getting these kind of offers for many decades. Turn about is fair play, and it is about time the fat got cut off the federal pork.
Honestly it may be a good thing - how many talented/smart guys are caught in the 'well my benefits are good even though my job sucks" trap - this could free these guys up to go get jobs in a productive industry
What are you doing with federal contracts? Although “temporary” those workers get much higher salaries than federal workers. Are programs operated for federal payments ending also? That is most of federal workforce. I think that Iowa farms would close without out those. Although trusting, I would verify what happens to the money now.
Yep, the first thing they offer. I guarantee you many will take this as the fed workforce was aging out. Others will retire. Because they all know whats left is reassignment to different jobs which could be anywhere.
Thank you for that clarification. I was thinking they had 8 months to get out, ie if they could apply for early retirement by that September date, they could retire before then.
Any idea how long federal employees need to work to qualify for the early retirement?
Yep if they offer early retirement it will start at 15 years. Which is probably what they will offer. Otherwise it’s 20 years. They do early retirement you will have many take it, because then they get retirement but can still work somewhere else.
Yep. I have a friend who is just waiting for 60 days beyond his early retirement period for the state prison system (officer) and will leave so they can work somewhere else that isn't doing (what many prison officers consider) everything they possibly can to make the prison more dangerous & get rid of all the experienced officers.
There were a few officers who quit a week after their early retirement date & magically approved days taken off were contested so those officers were intelligible for retirement.
Utah, under Cox, seems Hell bent on going directly against what the citizens want so long as the friends of Cox (ie developers) get to make lots of money at the tax payer's expense.
His approach just seems so much more leftists than Romney.
Probably, I would just trust the letters themselves as a source...or a legal document...or a friend who received the offer.
I have a daughter-in-law who does research for the VA. She has her doctorate and is a great employee, but she is worried her job will end. So far, she hasn't received any offer to quit. And if she is laid off, her contract says she only gets one week severance for every year worked (5 weeks, in her case).
She mostly does research in the cancer arena. Hopefully, they won't cut her job. They have a new baby.
My sister in law works for the social security department, surely I’ll hear about this soon enough. From what I hear tho, many will be taking this as in they refuse to change their “way of life”. You know the ones who they barely work and get paid amazingly. They would rather lose their job than “taken orders from” Trump. So I’d imagine they’ll take this and feel, somehow, they won.
By the way, my son and his wife are double vaxxed, previously brainwashed college students. Now, they are Trump supporters and bravely became "Enemy #1" at the hospital when they refused to allow their newborn to get any vaccines. They have done a 180.
I told them both they could go work for RFK or Elon. Haha.
No better for having been vaxxed; that is for sure. She got myocarditis, then pregnant a few years later. Very scary. They both seem to be ok for now. So does my son.
Her myocarditis is what totally turned their viewpoint towards being conservatives. They swore off vaccines forever and no longer trust medical authorities at all.
Spoke once with a mid level government manager. He was tasked with consolidating some things.
There were many others at his level. All of them had replicated systems. All of them had replicated staff. All costs were replicated.
Any private business doing this would go bankrupt in a month.
On the bright side, due to how much government corruption there has been, this compartmentalization has had a side benefit of preventing them from coming up with more grand schemes. Just a bunch of tiny kings of tiny kingdoms fighting each other to try and claw out another few nickles.
There is a downside to efficiency, but I’m expecting some heavy duty safeguards get put in place.
Edit: so, my family has been sick with the flu this week, and my husband doesn't have his laptop home with him since he's one of the few that works 100% in office. His coworkers are telling him they got the email. And they're asking him what he is planning on doing. He works for DHS USCIS, so kind of surprised his division all seems to have gotten one. We are afraid if he doesn't take the severance that he's just going to get laid off eventually. However, what he does probably isn't going away. There are only a handful of them, and they are short staffed. And they mostly all actually work as well.
Thanks. I will be looking forward to hearing what happens for him. I would imagine the freeze is temporary for jobs that have value. It will be reviewed and approved for him quickly, I hope.
Thanks for the info. Now I see the evidence about the offer through you.
My husband and his division did receive the email. And then they received another email that the offer was rescinded for them because they're essential employees, I'm not sure the exact wording but guessing they're using same sh*t from COVID.
He thinks it's because his division is one of the only ones in the government that actually makes money, and not through taxes. They're USCIS and make money on legal immigration paperwork processing fees.
Now, his upper managers are afraid they'll be looked at under a microscope because some of them who are in charge of spending have been very wasteful. Most of his office are MAGA, so if course the few wasteful ones are Dems. 😂 Hopefully that happens because it is needed. They have made some really stupid decisions.
This is very interesting. I am happy he gets to stay in his current job, which is important. 👍 Also, I am thrilled that DOGE is finding waste.
My daughter-in-law also got the letter. So far, she hasn't decided whether or not to take the offer. She has a newborn, so it is probably tempting. She does work on important medical publications of studies, though she says many studies chosen by her bosses are wasteful and unnecessary. She also hopes for some reform where she works.
It's only important as long as we have legal immigration.
My husband was considering it before it was rescinded. We were thinking that'd be a nice chunk to allow us to sell our house and get property somewhere outside of the suburbs. But we got to talking about how much taxes would come out, and it wouldn't really be as much as we were thinking. He isn't even close to the "average federal salary of $100,000". 😂😭
Hopefully she was able to take them up on the 4 months paid leave FMLA. I think it can be broken up over the first 12 months as well as needed. My husband was able to do that a couple of years ago for paternity leave.
RFK Jr will be her new boss. She might be safe and they might just pivot, but there's no telling. Job market is already rough. Going to be horrible with all of the federal employees flooding it as well. I don't think the federal government can just lay people off, so I think worse case scenario she would become a differed federal employee, and I'm not sure what all that would entail. If they still pay them for so long with benefits? I do know they get priority for other jobs, but if there aren't any, then yeah. Best case scenario she'll be working under RFK Jr probably and doing more important studies like curing cancer! 😁
I used to work in physical therapy. Since covid, I have been tutoring instead. Fun! I have a Cuban student whose mom works for a lawyer assisting legal immigrants from Cuba. I think her efforts are so important. She said a lot of immigrants missed their deadline to fill out paperwork, so they are self deporting now before they get caught. This way, they can try again right away...and turn in their paperwork on time next try. She said they were putting it off because Biden's administration made them think it wasn't that crucial. So, his policies harmed all these people.
My daughter-in-law says many federal employees are disbelieving the promise of eight paid months. They think the offer is a trick. Because of this, she may reject the offer. She and my son are big supporters of RFK Jr. It would be amazing if she got to work for him. Wahoo!
Hahaha! Thank you! And congrats on your new grandbaby! 😁
We definitely need good teachers for our children! I bet she's glad the illegals are getting the boot. It helps legal immigrants become citizens, and will hopefully open up more legal immigration. I know most of them hate illegals more than natural born Americans do. 😅 Yes, I have a friend of a friend who got caught staying past her 6 month visitor's visa, and she was banned for 10 years. Her ban was just lifted and she's so excited to be able to come visit again and do it right this time. It's crazy all the law knowledge and money that it takes for them to get here legally, and how much it hurts legal immigration for the illegals to just walk over the border, be handed a cell phone, a $10,000 visa card, and get bussed or flown all over the country under the Biden administration. His policies harmed a lot of people.
I can't see Trump offering and it being a trick. It's like a severance package. He has followed through on every campaign promise. Except Killary behind bars. I'm just afraid it'll then come to being laid off with nothing, if that's even possible for government employees. At minimum displaced government employees. I'm not entirely sure my husband's job is safe. They still might downsize. Will be interesting to see what happens to the employees from the USAID that are no longer employed there. I don't blame your daughter in law if she decides to reject the offer. Government benefits are amazing. Guaranteed job and salary for probably a few months at least. But I do recommend applying to other jobs just in case, or at minimum have a resume ready to go. Hopefully it won't come to that and she gets to work for RFK Jr.
I'm a government contractor and worried about what the future holds for me as well. Definitely uncertain times!
So, the Federal Government employs just over 3 million people. Does this mean these positions will get eventually get cut and bring the total workforce to 1 million? that would be so f-ing awesome and about time! there's about 100 overpaid government workers for every job, making $100k/year more than they should be. I'm 100% in favor of this. Trump needs to go Milei on them all.
The private sector workers have been getting these kind of offers for many decades. Turn about is fair play, and it is about time the fat got cut off the federal pork.
At least the feds won't have to train their H1B replacements with smiles on their faces to get the buyout.
Honestly it may be a good thing - how many talented/smart guys are caught in the 'well my benefits are good even though my job sucks" trap - this could free these guys up to go get jobs in a productive industry
Usually you get a week per year of service. This is 8 months for anybody.
What are you doing with federal contracts? Although “temporary” those workers get much higher salaries than federal workers. Are programs operated for federal payments ending also? That is most of federal workforce. I think that Iowa farms would close without out those. Although trusting, I would verify what happens to the money now.
Now that is eye opening. Either take the buy out or else. Hehehe. I can only imagine what the or else could be.
Where can I get hired real quick so I can take the deal? 😂
All hiring has been frozen.
Yah, it was a joke.. hence the laughing face.
I don't get it...duh...🤪
A joke for you, but awesome because there are people out there who would absolutely try that in earnest.
Yep, the first thing they offer. I guarantee you many will take this as the fed workforce was aging out. Others will retire. Because they all know whats left is reassignment to different jobs which could be anywhere.
Get 8 months pay AND choose early retirement. Hard to pass up.
Nope can’t do both. You either get out now with the compensation or do early retirement.
Thank you for that clarification. I was thinking they had 8 months to get out, ie if they could apply for early retirement by that September date, they could retire before then.
Any idea how long federal employees need to work to qualify for the early retirement?

and something they can't do
And voila.
Just like that, we have replacements for illegal immigrant vegetable pickers.
Beautiful.
Love it
Tippity Top Comment here, believe me!
Can life get any better?
I’ll never get tired of winning.
Here’s hoping they take buyout. 🥂
I think they’ll regret it if they don’t……mass layoff incoming, this is their one chance to take the money and run.
Assuming 2 million leave willingly ...
If they had, on average, 100k per year then Trump just saved 200 billion tax payer dollars per year in the long run.
“But then we’re paying them almost a full year to not work!”
chortle
“But if we lay them off, who will do those jobs?”
guffaw
Can’t get any fairer than that!

Learn to farm, like a peasant.👍🏻
Farming is hard work…a lot of good people who are farmers that voted for Trump.
Elon gave him an advice that 2 millions don’t do any valuable work.
Where can we verify this. I would like to see the offers in writing from many sources.
I googled it and it’s everywhere. Which outlet would you trust to break this?
Probably, I would just trust the letters themselves as a source...or a legal document...or a friend who received the offer.

Good comment.
Well I would hope they don't cut too much out of the VA, although I'm sure there is fat there too. A reorganization is called for.
Absolutely. She said the same thing.
By the way, my son and his wife are double vaxxed, previously brainwashed college students. Now, they are Trump supporters and bravely became "Enemy #1" at the hospital when they refused to allow their newborn to get any vaccines. They have done a 180.

No health issues I hope.
