I would consider Marvin Minsky the beginning of AI. He was contemplating AI in the 60s. It came to fruition in the 1980s if not before. The set subset theory was used to write the software for CYC.com. The ability to develop the hardware necessary to handle the software was catching up fast. I it may have gained access to the internet in the nineties and possibly used for cyber security and had military applications. I can’t imagine the capabilities now. Operation Looking glass being early AI would be a reasonable assumption in my opinion.
