The concept of property taxes is bizarre. It implies that the government is the 'owner', not the owner.
Or that government has aright to demand that you pay for things you do not want. How can government be of the people, for the people, by the people, if it dictates what they people must do?
It has to be the other way around.
Jefferson was right. When the government no longer serves the interests of a people, they have every right to change the form of government they have.
Well, the form was right, and is right, but government has been captured. Captured by an enemy hostile to the people. And enemy that seeks to be master, owner, slaver.
To free America, to free any nation, the people must free the government from its captured state, and return it to the place it is meant to be; servant of the people.
There is no need for an individual income tax, nor property tax, at either the federal or state level. There is no legitimate power granted to government to tax us, anyway. We need to force them to do the following, or replace them with a new government that serves us 100% within the boundaries of the Constitution:
A 100% full forensic accounting of all the money, expenditures, of every department, program, or agency with unconstitutional spending is provided to the American People. If the Constitution doesn't specifically delegate it, then it must be abolished. Require that the federal budget be balanced every year.
Publish the actual cost to run the federal government through an annual forensic audit with full disclosure and transparency, once #5 has been completed.
Establish a $1,000,000,000,000.00 federal emergency fund that is used only for legitimate emergencies. Any funds used must be replenished within the span of 4 years of being used.
Secure all Federal Elections 100%. Make it a capital crime to tamper with or commit fraud in our elections.
Reduce the federal government to the size and scope the founding fathers intended when they wrote the Constitution. Eliminate all departments, all agencies, all programs, all projects, and all roles not specifically delegated to government through the Constitution. End all forms of welfare, including foreign aid, corporate aid, and domestic welfare programs. This will eliminate most unconstitutional spending. It will also shrink the government back to the size and scope originally intended. All departments and delegated powers that belong to the States will be funded 100% by those States, and with no federal dollars.
No more prosecuting victimless "crimes". If you couple this with repealing all unconstitutional federal weapons laws, and laws against forming local militia's, these actions would save millions to billions of dollars annually, while increasing the safety / security of citizens.
Eliminate all federal taxes on American citizens across the board. No other income taxes on citizens of any type at the federal level. This includes every form of property tax, and every single federal consumption tax: gasoline, diesel, communications, water, etc.
End all entangling alliances with foreign nations. This includes the U.N., NATO, WEF, and any other alliance or treaty that interferes with our sovereignty and independence. End all Treaties that are not favorable to the USA, or compromise our sovereignty in any way.
Enact sensible tariffs on foreign trade, just as the framers of our Constitution intended. All excess funds over what is required to fund the limited federal government would go to paying off the federal debt. Once that debt is paid off, all surplus funds would be evenly distributed to all American Citizens at the end of each year, with the exception of replenishing the emergency fund in #3 above.
Enact a flat 5% tax on businesses, but only on those with annual revenue over $10,000,000.00. This would allow small business owners plenty of breathing room to establish and grow a small business to a point of success allowing it to thrive once it was subject to the federal flat tax. All excess funds over what is required to fund the limited government would go to paying off the federal debt. Once that debt is paid off, all surplus funds would be evenly distributed to all American Citizens at the end of each year, with the exception of replenishing the emergency fund in #3 above. All other federal government fee's or charges for American owned businesses would be eliminated. Government is not intended to generate profits, only raise enough revenue to cover the actual cost of running a small and efficient government.
Enact a 5% federal flat income tax on all non-citizens living in our country. If they earn their citizenship, they would no longer be subject to that income tax. All excess funds over what is required to fund the limited government would go to paying off the federal debt. Once that debt is paid off, all surplus funds would be evenly distributed to all American Citizens at the end of each year, with the exception of replenishing the emergency fund in #3 above, and funding the deportation of illegal aliens apprehended or extradited within our borders.
Charge $200,000.00 for a four year student visa, and $400,000.00 for a 4 year H1-B Visa. Include the President Trump's Gold Card Visa program by charging $5,000,000.00 for this visa to qualified foreigners, with a cap of 2 million Gold Card Visas issued at any one time. Taking American school slots and American jobs is going to cost non-citizens. Any person, company, or school that is caught using any visa fraudulently will be fined $500,000.00 per incident for Student and H1-B, and $5 million for Gold Card Visa's. These funds would help defray the cost of deporting illegal immigrants. All excess funds over what is required to fund the limited government would go to paying off the federal debt. Once that debt is paid off, all surplus funds would be evenly distributed to all American Citizens at the end of each year, with the exception of replenishing the emergency fund in #3 above. Any person in the United States on a Visa is subject to having their Visa revoked immediately for engaging in unethical or illegal conduct or activities, or for any act or participation in protests against the United States of America. This includes stealing, damaging, desecrating, or destroying our flag, or advocating the violation or overthrow of our Constitution.
Require all legal immigrants to live within the United States for a minimum of 14 years before allowing them to earn U.S. Citizenship (10 years for those married to a U.S. citizen, or for a minimum of 7 years honorable military service). During this time they must earn their citizenship and prove they truly intend to become an American, to include passing an exam proving they are 100% proficient in the English Language. They would also be required to pass an extensive exam covering true American history, the principles upon which our Constitutional Republic was established, and have a thorough knowledge of our Constitution, and our federal government. They would have to renounce all ties and affiliations or allegiances to foreign powers or people and become 100% subject to the jurisdiction of these United States of America. They would be required to watch the video series listed in #30. This would also eliminate most green card scammers, green card divorces, etc.
Enact a Constitutional Amendment establishing English as the official language of These United States of America. Prohibit any government forms, publications, etc., to be printed in any language other than English.
Enact a Constitutional Amendment forbidding all non-citizens, all foreign governments, and all foreign companies from purchasing / owning any land or any other real estate, including through businesses they own or are in partnership. If they already do own any, they have to sell it within 12 months of the ratification of the Amendment. If it is not sold, it will be taken through Eminent domain, and sold at auction to individual U.S. Citizens, and not to government or corporations.
Eliminate Social Security, and the Social Security Administration. This could be done by establishing a "cut-off" age. Anyone over that age gets to finish out their Social Security payments. Anyone under that age gets all of the money they put in over the years refunded in a lump sum payment that is not taxed. They would also receive a full refund of their spouses contributions, if they are deceased. This could easily be funded by all the other unconstitutional expenditures that would be stopped, as noted in #5 above. Anyone that did not pay into SS will not get SS. Once the unconstitutional / socialist program finishes paying out, then it would be forever abolished.
Enact a Constitutional Amendment mandating that the President has Line Item Veto power.
Enact a Constitutional Amendment mandating only single issue Bills can be introduced, and all Bills / Laws must be simple, short, and easily understood by any citizen with a high school level of education.
Enact a Constitutional Amendment requiring all deals and all votes in the Legislative Branch be public and in person. The public will see who voted on what, who voted, or didn't, and how each member voted. No more secret backroom deals, and no more secret votes.
Enact a Constitutional Amendment recognizing in every federal court that jurors are the sole judges of the law and the facts. The jurors must have a working knowledge of the Constitution and the principles upon which our Republic was founded to qualify for jury duty.
Enact a Constitutional Amendment mandating everyone working for the government, elected or appointed, to be audited by an independent agency every 2 years. This includes all judges, all elected representatives, POTUS and Vice POTUS, as well as all cabinet members, and all department heads and managers. Make the penalty for violations of their oath or the law expulsion / termination and a lifetime ban from ever again working in the government, or holding office. For more serious violations, the penalty should be felony prison time.
Enact a Constitutional Amendment prohibiting recurring taxes on any type of property. This would prohibit government from infringing on the natural right to actually 100% own property.
Re-task the IRS to collect non-citizen income tax, tariffs, and the business taxes. Take away their "police" powers (No guns or arrest power), and make them the accountants and auditors they were created to be.
Privatize the USPS by selling it. Retain all government specific tasks (passports, etc.) by moving them under other Constitutionally delegated departments.
Enact a Constitutional amendment to impeach any federal judge, including sitting SCOTUS Justices, for failing to render decisions in accordance with the Constitution. The interpretation of the laws is the proper and peculiar province of the courts. A constitution is in fact, and must be, regarded by the judges as a fundamental law. It therefore belongs to them to ascertain its meaning as well as the meaning of any particular act proceeding from the legislative body. If there should happen to be an irreconcilable variance between the two, that which has the superior obligation and validity ought of course to be preferred; or in other words, the constitution ought to be preferred to the statute, the intention of the people to the intention of their agents. On every question of construction of the Constitution let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or intended against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.
Enact a Constitutional Amendment limiting all federal judges to 6 year terms in office, with a maximum of 2 terms of office in the Judicial Branch.
Enact a Constitutional Amendment eliminating any requirements of a law degree, or any legal experience, to be elected or appointed as a federal judge. This applies to all levels of federal courts, including the SCOTUS. Instead, candidates are required to have an inviolable reverence and extensive knowledge and understanding of the Constitution, and the principles upon which the framers of the Constitution established our Republic. #30 and #31 are particularly important for federal judges to understand and master.
Enact a Constitutional Amendment requiring all candidates for any elected or appointed federal office be a natural born citizen to be eligible, and can't hold any other citizenship. These requirements apply to hold a security clearance or to be employed (to include volunteers) within the federal government.
Make it a capital crime for anyone in government to misappropriate, steal, or misuse our government funds, in any manner. Same principle as if you robbed a bank. The difference is it is a government public trust situation, and should have the penalty of forfeiting the life of any guilty party.
Require anyone elected, appointed, volunteering, or employed by the federal government, in any capacity, to watch the 6-hour Constitution class taught by Michael Badnarik before they take their Oath of Office. Make the penalty of betraying that oath punishable by prison and a lifetime ban from ever working in the federal government, or holding federal office. (URL: https://youtube.com/watch?v=wp-48d_jSb4)
Require anyone elected, appointed, volunteering, or employed by the federal government, in any capacity, to learn this simple, but critical, principle before they take their Oath of Office. Make the penalty of betraying that oath punishable by expulsion and a lifetime ban from ever again working in the federal government, or holding federal office. Wow. You've put in a lot of time compiling that list, plus it has great explanations as to why and how they should be implemented. Thanks for your efforts at stimulating a lot of brains. Please consider making this a separate post so more eyes can read it. THANKS!!!
Iβve added these two links to my to-do list. Thanks!
Iβd vote for you! Excellent ideas in this post and the follow-up.
Shit... and I was looking to move to Missouri later this year. I may do Florida instead!
Missouri is a hidden gem, but the personal property tax is annoying. I do pay only $30 a year in property tax for 20 acres of land so it's a decent trade off.
Are you looking at the Ozarks or more north? If Ozarks, don't overlook North Arkansas, another underrated area.
Iβm considering the Branson area, in one of the small towns surrounding it (Forsyth, etc). There are plenty of chef gigs in Branson, and I want to continue to live rural. I am (God Blessedly) on my own now, so Iβll just be renting at first, and rentals are cheap in the outskirts.
I live in a town called Kimberling City. About five miles west of Branson. Lived here off and on for the past 40 years. Back then Hwy 76 was a traffic jam from 6am until 11pm. That has drastically changed, whether from the tourism dwindling or the new roads cut through the hills to bypass Hwy 76. Where to live? I'd stay away from Forsyth, too many crackheads on that side of the county. Heck, anywhere you go around here has its share of redneck beat up clunkers cars and trucks sitting in the front yard waiting to be repaired. Look south towards the Arkansas state line. Takes a little but more time to get into Branson, but the tax situation is way better. Blue Eye Arkansas come st mind. You might be able to wrangle an acre of land from an old farmer and set up a nice homestead.
Beautiful area. I'm about an hour-ish from that general area. Forsyth is a great little town. I think you'll be happy with your move. Best of luck to ya!
Michigan Next!
I am paying $9000.00 a year. No kids in school, won't step foot in a woke library. It shouldn't be be based on excessive home prices, but services used.
Well I don't have it so bad I guess. But maybe. I pay $6,600.00 and live on a dirt road. No kids in school, no services other than a road grading 3-4 times a year. I agree it should be based on services used and or offered. Libraries are pretty much obsolete with the Internet and online resources. Anyway, it's a sham for sure. Really chaps my ass Everytime I write that check
Like . . . the market!
That's MY Governor!
He has been fantastic. Going to miss him.
I hope it passes. I need to see if there are any stipulations. My property tax bill down here is nearly 10,000 per year.
How many sq/ft do you have?
4300ishβ¦
How will counties fund their sheriff's offices and schools?
$200 "your license plate light is out" tickets, and the like? I don't know.
Police departments are mostly revenue generating exploits aren't they?
From property taxes that are not homesteaded. Like all the air BNBs in the state, all the single family houses that firms bought up to rent as section8, or for their H1Bs. Snow birds with a property in Florida and NY but homestead in NY or they would get crushed in their home state taxes. Business properties which sit on prime costal real estate would still be paying their taxes. Hotel taxes already pay for quite a bit. Marinas sit on prized taxable property. Many revenue streams in Florida that funds can be drawn from. Hell cutting the medicaid/care fraud alone in that state would be enough.
The homestead (primary residence) tax base in Florida comprises a smaller portion of overall property taxes (Edit: just 30%), with secondary homes, rental/investment homes, Airbnbs and commercial properties (which will NOT be getting a tax break) comprising the much larger percentage (Edit: 70%). Also, the last I looked, FAFO (Florida Agency for Fiscal Oversight), effectively Florida's DOGE, has already uncovered about $2B in wasteful spending (DEI and other lefty BS) in just about a dozen cities so far. Their state CFO, Blaise Ingoglia, is continuing to audit other cities to identity further cuts.
Florida may be one of the most fiscally well-run states in the country, running a surplus that they'll use to fund the small, rural towns that don't draw in tourists to offset the property tax cuts there. Schools and law enforcement will have to be funded first. They're also planning to put the homestead property tax removal law in place with safeguards so that the cities won't jack up other BS to fill in their lost grift. There are several leftist-controlled cities in Florida who are not going to take kindly to losing their wasteful budgets. When they're forced to stop frittering away the taxpayers' money on BS they'll have plenty to fund law enforcement and schools.
I didn't even think about how it would crush the left grift and make the state even more red.
TBF, the rino right pols are happy to line their pockets with taxpayers' money as well, why several of them proposed watered-down, tepid, pseudo property relief bills in an attempt to forestall this one DeSantis ultimately proposed here. Again, I forget exact numbers, but Florida property tax revenue nearly doubled over a five year (?) period (Edit: $32B in 2019 to $60B in 2025/6) and this wasn't due to a doubling of the number of homes or doubling of services Florida residents received. While the aggregate number of homes did rise, it was a perceived home value increase coupled with increased rates of taxation. The Florida resident did not get "super services" as a result; they just got a higher tax burden.
Look into what the state FAFO has uncovered to get a better idea about the nature of what these DS minion pols have done with their citizens' hard-earned tax money -- a lot of DEI BS and "climate change" hoax crap plus other ridiculous, wasteful allocations. The following link -- and CAUTION this will download the report, 6.45M, onto your hard drive -- is the 99-page January 2026 update for the Florida DOGE/FAFO efforts to date. (IMO it's useful to grab a copy of this periodically as the effort continues). On first perusal it's an excellent report written in clear, basic language and providing the detailed data as well. You can check the overall findings and also dig down into individual cities that have been audited to date.

Maybe heβs showing us what a scam it is
It doesnβt eliminate property tax on commercial and rental properties. The counties can set the millage rates and will increase them to make up for the reduction elsewhere.
Also the proposals thus far have not eliminated school taxes which account for 40-50% of the property taxes.
They are also talking about increasing the state sales tax from 6% to 12% to offset the revenue.
There is a lot of smoke and mirrors going on here.
All in all I think this is very unlikely to pass the Florida legislature and less likely to pass the amendment vote with the required 60%.
Heβs gonna need a bigger State!!!ππππ

Even medieval serfs did not pay taxes like normal people do now, all over the world. I think Medieval lords only had the right to take 10%, so that they could give their 10% to the King.
If they took more, the serf could complain to the king.
You see, the seemingly (sometimes labeled communist) medievals (e.g. the Christian revolution, and also the Normans, who were also Christian) had an ancient memory of the brutality of Roman taxes:
Land and Property Tax (Tributum): The primary direct tax. Conquered provinces paid a flat agricultural rate or a tithe (decuma), usually taking (10%) of their crop yields.
Poll Tax (Tributum capitis): A head tax generally levied on residents of the provinces.
Citizen Taxes: Remarkably, Roman citizens living in Italy were exempt from direct taxation for centuries after 167 BC due to the vast wealth pouring in from conquests. However, they paid a wealth tax on property and slaves, typically (1%) in peacetime and up to (3%) during war.
Customs Duties (Portoria): Tariffs and tolls levied on goods crossing provincial borders, entering cities, or using certain bridges.
Transaction Taxes: Included a (4%) tax on the sale of slaves, a (1%) tax on auction goods, and a (5%) tax on inheritances to fund military pensions.
So you see, we are still living in Roman times, in a way.
Thanks dandy!
People get so worked up with property taxes. They shouldnβt call a property tax. They should call it a County City Township school district tax I donβt like the fact that in most jurisdiction itβs based on the value of your home, that is just a wealth redistribution tax, Or luxury tax. I realize you have to pay for City services, County service services and even your school district, but it should be based on how your house impacts your community. So if they do away with property taxes, how are the county city Township or school district going to get their money? Is it just gonna come back through some other fee?
We pay city and school taxes.
But the scoolzzzz!!!!
Congratulations Florida!!ππ₯³ππππΎπ₯
Not yet it has to be voted upon in November.
Then the celebrations can start.
By removing property tax, you will see an increase in state taxes, sales taxes, etc.
If you're one of the many who do not own a home because of how near impossible it is for young people to nowadays, you're just getting taxed even more.
https://nitter.poast.org/i/status/2059733500534685799
The property tax elimination can only be changed by referendum on November ballot I believe. Even this story says this. I think the legislature has to work up the language of the referendum in bill form, but I'm not sure.
It has to pass the state Senate and then it will appear on the November ballot and needs a supermajority (60% of citizens) to be enacted as it's a change to the state constitution. Republicans hold a supermajority in the state Senate, with one notable rino, Perez (I forget where he's from), trying to cause problems. DeSantis seems pretty confident this is going to pass muster and be enacted.
The shitty pols already tried to float a shit ton of watered down property tax "reduction" bills in session that, of course, couldn't pass with a supermajority because many of these pol turds don't want to give up their gravy train. DeSantis wasn't having it, why he's called a special session so that they can't fritter away the time and not "get to it" as they already tried. This special session is one topic only - homestead property tax elimination - so they can't weasel out of it.
Thanks for clarifying fren.
You're welcome, fren.
As I recall, you're a Floridian so I'd like to suggest exploring a series of videos on Florida resident issues. (Or for anyone who's interested in Florida issues, resident or not). There's a guy in St Pete, Grant Warrington, who does a really good job describing the issues around this historic effort to eliminate Florida homestead property taxes, also the political candidates and other issues affecting Floridians.
Below is a link to his latest video which covers some of the info I related, above, and then further talks about the Orlando mayor's corruption. Peruse Mr W's other videos if you have time. I've found him to be a straight shooter, patriot, very thorough in covering topics. I've watched many of his videos and watch many/most of DeSantis' press conferences and town halls, those by the Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins and the Florida State CFO Blaise Ingoglia.
Also, look at another one of my comments, above, that has a link to the latest FAFO/DOGE report -- worth looking into.

Much appreciated. Will check this out.
Update: Listen to vid on property taxes. This guy is good.
Go Jay Collins.
Me, either...will need to look it up...
Here is what u/thinq says in comment above.

Wish Jeff Landry would do the same for Louisiana!!
FL needs to ban HOAs in this State, too.
Homeowners Insurance will take what you save ,WATCH.
Big win for Florida . God bless Governor
This is a ruse, they have to get income from somewhere. Either sales tax goes up or non ad valorem taxes will increase. Homestead doesnβt protect you from that.
Sales taxes. Forces government to be more pro business.
It shifts control of the tax revenue from local counties to the state level.
Who invokes the non ad valorem taxes then? Is that local county or state level? I can assure you itβs not the state. More counties are working around homestead exceptions and increasing those taxes which are not covered. What do you think is going to happen to all the lost funds? Just going to be converted.
Hopefully when Tuberville becomes Gov of Alabama, he will do the same and maybe lower sales tax and also get rid of state taxes like Florida. π€we are taxed on everything here.
Will be praying fren! ππ€
Additional States setting precedence about no income tax needs to be happening. And raising social security baseline to being enough for a human being to actually live on in this country.
Love my governor.πποΈπ FL is the freest state in the union.
So will they make up the tax revenue losses by either increasing sales tax, or implementing an income tax, or some combination of both?
Whoa....
I'm so tired of the theft of my money. I'm poor stop stealing my money. FFS.
