No it still functions like a mini republic. The counties are in charge of themselves. They fund the schools, roads and other "state" (in texases its county based) services.
Something about our judge's have more power, and the law is a bit different. I dont completely understand it but I love it. Everything county funded is so manageable.
Yeah, I don't think that's what is meant by a republic. The electoral collage is yet a separate piece to our presidential election. By being a republic we elect representatives which vote on legislation on our behalf as opposed to all laws going to the public for a vote. Having the public vote on all laws and having the majority decide would be a democracy.
You can check out federalist paper 10 which gives some insight into why the founders wanted a republic instead of a democracy.
Both the state and federal legislatures are republican forms of government. From article 4 of the US constitution:
...The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,...
The electoral college is just a mechanism so that a couple/few populous states don't control the executive branch. Nothing to do with us being a republic or not.
Should work that way, but may not be that easy. They are elected officials, so they have to go through the process. Dereliction of duty if it applies, quick trial, THEN get fired and replaced.
What I am wondering is, who is DC helped set this up and "invited" them all to go there as well, who set up the transportation and all of it. I hope that is all investigated. I know the plane they took is being looked into.
For what it's worth, when they walked out in 2003 Rick Perry sought permission from the Govs of OK & NM to make the arrests and he was denied. Maybe DeSantis or Noem would have the balls to allow it? This is the sort of matter that no other state wants to get involved in.
Did you see their smug faces on the airplane....it made me sick to my stomach. I certainly hope Abbott does this but I think they need to lose their jobs altogether.
Let the Democrats hide in Washington DC for a month or two. Who cares?
The bills will be waiting... and eventually they have to return to the state.
Voter integrity laws? There won't be an election anyway until next November.
A bill that would protect girls from having to compete against biological males in sports? High school and college sports don't begin for at least 2 more months.
Funding arrests of illegal aliens? I'm sure we will find temporary money elsewhere to do that in the mean time.
Clampdown on abortion? We already have strong laws. Two more months won't make much difference... and then we will strengthen the laws further.
Crackdown on racist Critical Race Theory being taught in schools? Schools won't begin teaching for 1.5 months... and we really don't teach CRT garbage in our schools to begin with (except in liberal Austin). That can wait too.
Unless the lawmakers plan to hide out for more than a few months... it makes no difference. If they will be gone past 60 days, I'm sure there will be an emergency recall effort for each and every one of them state wide.
Doing this goes against the spirit of their offices, so just move ahead with the vote without them, then use an emergency recall effort using the new laws to ensure that if a lefty gets in, it's one that was actually voted for.
I'm with you on this one, H20. Any idea who paid for the plane? I read a Lebanese activist, Democratic caucus, a Representative on CNN said she paid for her own ticket (?) and some other representative drove. I hope all of this leads to an audit here in TX. These ppl gotta go.
HB 87, 87th Regular Session
Relating to requiring certain employers to provide paid sick leave to employees; providing administrative and civil penalties..... I'm sure that's not what your talking about 🤷
I agree that there's a difference, but the other side sees it the same way you do. That voter ID laws are racist, because they're told to, and are cheering this on as a win.
Their jobs are to write laws and vote for or against; not to leave to delay it while their assassins figure out a way to threaten or effect the change needed by the time they come back.
They went back to the mothership and this is incentive to stay there. Can they be removed from office while they are out? Seems like an opportunity to start recalls.
corral
[kəˈral]
VERB
corralling (present participle)
gather together and confine (a group of people or things).
"the organizers were corralling the crowd into marching formation"
NORTH AMERICAN
put or keep (livestock) in a corral.
"sheep and goats grazed the plains during the day but they were corralled at night"
Why not just call them all to order a day or two earlier, lock and guard the doors and take the vote while they are in the room scrambling around trying to get out?
Yup lol. What's crazy is we're so damn big the northern cities don't deal with that sort of extreme. So maybe guy above my comment was from the panhandle lol.
No way this is happening. Abbott wants to be DeSantis so bad it's pathetic. He will probably lock the state down again once they get back because of the 'theta' variant
will “be arrested” the moment that they step foot back in the state
Good, but let's get this once and for all, dailywire: It's "SET" foot, not "STEP" foot.
Step is an intransitive verb. You can step ON people or things. You can step INTO a room or step OVER a dead commie. You just can't step people or things.
Agree with you that "set foot" is by far the preferred construction and that in this usage "step foot" is clearly incorrect, but "step" as a verb has both transitive and intransitive uses:
v.i.
to move in steps.
to walk, esp. for a few strides or a short distance: Step over to the counter.
to move with measured steps, as in a dance.
to go briskly or fast, as a horse.
to come easily and naturally, as if by a step of the foot: to step into a fortune.
to put the foot down; tread: Don't step on the grass.
to press with the foot, as on a lever or spring, in order to operate some mechanism.
v.t.
to take (a step, pace, stride, etc.).
to go through or perform the steps of (a dance).
to move or set (the foot) in taking a step.
to measure (a distance, ground, etc.) by steps (sometimes fol. by off or out).
to make or arrange in the manner of a series of steps.
to fix (a mast) in its step.
step down,
a. to lower or decrease by degrees.
b. to relinquish one's authority or control; resign.
...and not a single one of those transitive uses have I ever seen anywhere in print or online, or heard used verbally.
No, I'm not proclaiming I'm the ultimate arbiter of anything, nor have I read every book ever published; just a former editor who has never encountered a transitive use of step even once (except the phrase "step foot", which sets the teeth on edge every time).
Not being a boater, I have not the slightest clue what "to step a mast" might mean, so I take your word for it, BOatriot :)
Fine them or suspend their pay! They will only understand money or jail time. Arrests without jail time are pointless, but since the courts are rigged I doubt there will be any accountability unless we ever get honest elections. And they are doing everything they can to thwart that.
He's ONLY doing this because he has a serious primary challenger for Governor. Just a year ago, he went completely along with all of these lockdown rules. ALL republicans need to be primaried and challenged. Hold their feet to the fire. They should never know a day of rest or go on the wayside.
Arrested and taken to the Capital to do their job? That's not the arrests we have in mind. What is needed are arrests that strip them of any ability to hold or run for office again. Abbott should immediately announce a special election to replace the AWOL's, strip them of their positions, stop their pay, end any benefits. They are defrauding the citizens of Texas and should be considered criminals on the run. Instruct the Texas Rangers to track them down and bring them back to face justice.
According to the State Constitution he can do little more than talk. He can call repeat special sessions but any order for compelling attendance is a legislative matter. For what it is worth, the governor of Texas has very little actual power. In times past, Texas Governors rarely lived in Austin. Lt Governor is a much more powerful position and even that office is severely limited.
This is great! It's about time they get forced to do their job. He should suspend their pay as well until they return to work. We need rules for our legislators. Nobody should be able to vote present, votes should happen no matter how many show up for work, and if they miss more than 10 votes, they lose their job and a special election is had to fill their place. I know if I show up for work, actively try to hold back progress, go home when I don't like what's going on, I wouldn't have my job long.
FOLLOW THROUGH DAMMIT!
If he doesn't, then he only loses legitimacy. Don't let your mouth write checks that your ass can't cash.
Don’t let your ass write checks your mouth can’t cash. slurp
Please.
"Don't mess with Texas" - Gov. Abbott
Can we please stop calling the Republic a Democracy while we're at it?
States have democracy, the country is a republic.
Yup. Also, a republic is a form of democracy, it is just not a strict democracy, which doesn't work when uniting an (almost) entire continent
I thought Texas was a mini republic?
( •_•)>⌐□-□
(⌐□_□)
Lol
No it still functions like a mini republic. The counties are in charge of themselves. They fund the schools, roads and other "state" (in texases its county based) services.
Something about our judge's have more power, and the law is a bit different. I dont completely understand it but I love it. Everything county funded is so manageable.
except traffic.. Texas sucks at traffic
How are states a democracy?
State voting is straight up majority rule, unlike the country which has the representative voting via the electoral college
Yeah, I don't think that's what is meant by a republic. The electoral collage is yet a separate piece to our presidential election. By being a republic we elect representatives which vote on legislation on our behalf as opposed to all laws going to the public for a vote. Too bad the Texas Marshals don't go get them and perp walk them back to Texas.
From what I understand, they can’t. DC is not a state which is why they went there. No authority to get them in DC.
I think they lose their positions. Abandoned their jobs. No call no show. We fire people for.thT.
Should work that way, but may not be that easy. They are elected officials, so they have to go through the process. Dereliction of duty if it applies, quick trial, THEN get fired and replaced.
I figured they went to DC because it is now under foreign occupation and they are foreign operatives.
What I am wondering is, who is DC helped set this up and "invited" them all to go there as well, who set up the transportation and all of it. I hope that is all investigated. I know the plane they took is being looked into.

Did you see the 12 pk of Miller Lite? 🤣😅🤣 and Scavino tweet?

https://poweredxpeople.org scroll down to pitch in ....it leads to act blue
What are you saying?
Act Blue taking donations for the cost of the flight.. BLM funneled money thru Act Blue for the Dems is the connection.
oh, great research, Nick! I'll check it out.
Here's one for you, Nick. Search Texas 87th Legislature, page 87.
(I can't figure out how to link it without giving you a download)
HB 87, 87th Regular Session Relating to requiring certain employers to provide paid sick leave to employees; providing administrative and civil penalties..... I'm sure that's not what your talking about 🤷
try this
https://house.texas.gov/_media/pdf/House-Rules-of-Procedure-87.pdf
page 87
sorry I don't know how to link
page 87 of document, not the 87th page of the scroll
Will check it out later 👍
TRUTH is everlasting and immutable, it lasts forever.
Love is patient and kind.
In recognition of these truths, I like you thinking.
what happens if they dont come back? or if they get arrested in DC? 🤔
Lets hope this is not an idle threat.
Republicans fled Oregon to avoid bad legislation and I cheered.
A dereliction of duty is a dereliction of duty.
They failed their job just as these Dem whores are failing theirs.
Again, leaving was never meant to be used to hold the passage of laws hostage if you don't get your way.
Little difference: the Oregon ones didn't want to have to be part of a scam.
Climate change is a scam and everyone knows it.
This is different.
Looks the same on the surface, though.
The voters in their districts should be visited door to door and asked if their lawmaker is properly representing them in this issue.
The registered voters should decide.
This. It's filibuster-esque.
They went back to the mothership and this is incentive to stay there. Can they be removed from office while they are out? Seems like an opportunity to start recalls.
Yes I do like it when a “plan” comes together, recall recall recall!
"They" are coralling themselves!
To hell with them,if they choose not to cast their vote then Republicans push bill through by default...same way Nancy did by proxy voting..
Don't mess with Texas.
Why not just call them all to order a day or two earlier, lock and guard the doors and take the vote while they are in the room scrambling around trying to get out?
DC is hot and humid as fuck this time of year. Enjoy fuckers.
Let me tell you a little something about Texas...
Lol when I was in Houston we went to a park my back was exposed to the sun for five minutes and I had a sunburn. It's hot all day, and all night.
Hence why Lt Col West is running to primary him.
I dunno I would applaud this form of the Rubicon crossing.

I, for instance, have stepped several masts.
Thanks Bo

i hope it happens
Then do it, don't talk about it. Sick of big talk little walk.
Declare the seats vacant and hold elections to fill them.
I wonder if these idiots are planning on an extended stay in D.C.? That's the only way [they] avoid arrest, it would seem.
Too bad Piglosi has ordered the removal of the fencing around D.C., huh?
Nothing can stop what is coming.
Fine them or suspend their pay! They will only understand money or jail time. Arrests without jail time are pointless, but since the courts are rigged I doubt there will be any accountability unless we ever get honest elections. And they are doing everything they can to thwart that.
I'm sure they'll get a stern talking to and half their yearly bonus put in escrow.
Queue the new chant: PERP WALK PERP WALK!
HAAAY ABBOTT

Abbott has to get tough and step up because he knows Allen West will beat him come next election.

Since they don’t want to be Texans, let property be open for someone else.
This pleases me
