In middle school, my buddy and I had this science teacher who showed us a literal black box that “magically” turned water a different color. It seems very likely we guessed how it worked quickly, because she never told us how it actually worked inside. And ultimately I think that was the point - to make us question even simple looking things, and never just “trust the science” blindly. Trust and verify!

I have a similar story.
I worked with a guy that mixed a greenish brown drink every day. He would take a cannister out and dump a scoop full of brown granules into water, stir it up and drink it.
Each time I would see him drinking it, it would look like he was swallowing poison, never the less, he would drink it all down each time. He would complain about how nasty the taste and after tasted was.
Finally I asked him what he was drinking. He said it was a health drink. I looked into the cannister and said "it looks like cat litter to me".
He screeched at me and said how awful I was to say that. I asked him what was in it, to which he replied he was not completely sure.
This fool mixes a drink made of brown granules of which he has no knowledge of what they are made of, suffers the experience of choking it into his body because some where someone told him it was good for him and somehow I am the villain.
Go figure.

When I was younger and too busy to know what I was putting in my body, I used to take these pills called "Diet Fuel". I thought they made me thinner faster.
Several years later, turns out they were made of shit that blocked my lymph nodes. Now I suffer from it.
Lesson learned a little too late.
