I just tell them no, that I've had it and now have a lasting natural immunity, the best protection there is. I just can't lie about it. It bewilders me how many vaxxed are getting sick now but still tout the vax as lessening their symptoms. Literally everyone I work with at a small business of 19 employees have had it and are fine now. About half of them are vaxxed, any several of those have stated they will not be getting the booster. As the narrative falls apart, I imagine those who have not boosted will not consider it.
To me the surest sign of brainwashing is the confidence that "things would have been worse." They can't know how things that haven't happened would have been! and they never say "It could have been better."

This usually stops them dead in their tracks because it makes them feel like they are discussing sensitive information (which they are) and they can't press further without breaking a law.
If they try to ask you a roundabout question, like if you have your passport, you can say "Yes". It's technically not a lie because you don't have to show them the blank you "printed off the internet".
HIPAA legal consequences only apply to medical facilities or other specific organizations that collect and deal with personalized identifying information regarding health information. It isn't a legal HIPAA violation for a person or non medical organization to disclose health information. There would be no threat of legal action in the situation you describe.

Interestingly, throughout the last 2 years I've only been asked directly about my vax status by 2 people. One was a random stranger coming to my house sale to purchase something off craigslist. I thought for sure once I told him that I wasnt, he would shriek in horror and run out, but surprisingly still bought what he came there for. The other was my brother and sister and future sister-in-law, I plainly told them no and it didnt bring up any arguments, it was fine. However, my husband and I moved to a liberal area (in a red state) for the last 6 months and while people dont directly ask, I notice instead that they will proudly tell you their vax status / whether they have gotten the recent booster, etc. Usually it's the 1st thing out of their mouths (literally, like instead of hello, it's "I just got my booster"). Since we were in this community temporarily, and I didnt want to ruffle feathers of those who I knew were caught up in the lie, we would just simply change the subject anytime it came up. It's a strange feeling living in 2 alternate realities alongside people. We are thankfully getting re-established in a more conservative area that hopefully aligns with our values more.

"I'm a carer for a family member so of course I haven't taken the vax - I can't afford to get ill!"

Thankfully I haven't been asked outright, but most just assume I've had the clot shot because if they got the clot shot then everybody must have. Stupid logic. I've learned to act as if the people I talk to are on the opposite side of me and to never assume anything. Saves me from saying something stupid in the long run. I try to blend in as one of them and learn how they think and act and react. It's an interesting experiment.
