I think >50% is closer than the 5% reported. I think Elon knew going into this. He will either kill twitter or buy it on the cheap on the lower valuation. Plus, criminal charges against twitter management for fraud? I think so.
Maybe his plan was never to actually buy Twitter, but rather just jump through some of the hoops in order to expose to the public their shady business practices? Just throwing that out there.

Somewhere along the line the social media companies turned these fake bots into fake people and have also been collecting government stimulus as a person.
They then used their fake bot - people army to vote in the 2020 election.
Even if it's 5% as a "small" number, the frequency these accounts work could dwarf your own numbers of actual people activities. And it's usually the case 10-to-1.
A "spam/bot" account, by definition, isn't lurking and just reading tweets.
The "top 10%" of twitter users are responsible for 80%+ of posts and are mostly politics.
So, if you say "Only 5% of users are bots" that could be a huge, huge percentage of actual-users-who-post-shit.
Twitter might be telling a misleading truth by saying only 5% of users are bots. 5% of the users being bots could result in 30-40-50% of tweets originating from bots. The more telling stat would be which percentage of tweets/likes/etc are by bots.
Twitter has had 300m "accounts" since 2015 that has only grown to ~396m in 7 years? The only thing that has changed is Twitter's ability to detect spam and bot accounts and manipulate what you see and who you see via the algorithms. It wouldn't be hard for them to lie and hid the amount of bots registered without removing those bots, because they're using them for propaganda.
They've turned dead/abandoned accounts into propaganda bot accounts, which is why you see some real people with real names carpet bombing with shitlib tweets. And of course they've made a bunch of new ones, especially in the year leading up to the 2020 election.
And none of this is factoring in real people then engaging and retweeting these bot account tweets.

Yea, I'd like to see the percentage of real tweets vs. bot tweets.
What I'd like to know is how they 'know' it's less than 5% in the first place in order to make that claim.

I would think the number of bot 'tweets' compared to non bot 'tweets' would be a more important metric of the amount of fraud.
There is no way the bots make up only 5% of twitter users. No way. It's way higher than that. I guarantee it.
