Wowza that’s a gem! This guys really does have the architectural strategy in place. Vehicles. Re-usable Rockets (aka space ships),An entire satellite system just about ready to reach the world. The social square under lock and key.
Close. Elon co-founded X.com but was replaced by some dude from Intuit in their first year. When X and Confinity (Paypal was only a service of Confinity) merged Elon came back as CEO until he was again ousted, but this time for Peter Thiel.
It looks like Thiel technically started Paypal as we know it because he focused more on the money transfer service, but both made a ton of money when eBay bought it.
I remember this going down, and I was thinking at the time that Confinity could be big - and then it was gone.
I thought people were already leaving PayPal in droves. I pulled my bit of money a long time ago. I can't cancel the account, as I don't have access to the phone I used to start the account years ago. So it will just sit there with a big fat zero balance until they go bankrupt.
That's so stupid. What do you mean you changed your phone that you had over 10 years ago? That'll be $2500. I would love to watch PayPal crumble into dust.
I had a cellphone many years ago, but I got tired of getting calls on it, so I canceled the service. I've never had service since. I can walk out of the house and be completely cut off from the landline phone.
You can actually cancel the account via their customer service number. I did it that way since I don't have a cell phone, and their 2FA is buggy as hell.
PayPal is still reasonably convenient for a lot of things, from obfuscating your payment method from foreign sellers (say you need a power supply at a reasonable price for a WLED project) to pay in 4 to splitting your payments between methods / credit, e.g. say you can afford half of something now, but would prefer to pay the other half off through credit.
I still like PayPal as a service, even if I hate their politics and what they try to do to subvert us. Like Amazon. Nearly instantaneous delivery for something you need is very convenient, even if they'd sooner sell you into slavery than treat you like a valued customer.
Bitcoin? MC/VISA using virtual accounts (one-time use)? Actually that's what I went to after canceling Paypal. Capital One has their virtual card app so I can just create a number for eBay, or online shopping, or whatever and use that number for that merchant. I can also lock it so they can't try to use it again. It works out well because after I pay something using a virtual card number I send a payment to Capital One from my bank (usually more than I just spent) to make sure I don't have interest on it and pay down a balance I have from a major purchase I did.
Receiving money is a little harder without Paypal. My daughter uses Google Pay to send me her share of the phone bill each month (instead of getting her own and losing out on the military discount and free HBO Max) and I've had people Zelle me money before as well.
Payment processing will require a HUGE code rewrite to ensure secure money handling. Elon now has the perfect reason to scrap the existing awful Twitter code and re-engineer the whole thing from scratch.
Before you didn't have to pay sales tax, and your earnings weren't reported to the gov't. AND it wasn't filled with cheap Chinese shit, and people weren't there looking to make a quick buck. It was just a website for selling your old stuff, and sometimes you got lucky. It used to be good for both buyers, and sellers.
Then it all went to shit. The website is okay now, but compared to its glory days, it sucks. Although one thing I have to say is, they did get better at cracking down on fraud. There was a period where people were scamming people with misleading photos, and text. Now that gets you a lifetime ban, and then some.
eBay may have lost something in translation, but in regards to finding people listing used / pre-owned like new products, it shits on almost every alternative still.
If you're a collector, be it figures, statues.. anything, really, you can find a lot of rare stuff there. And that's really a massive point over Amazon and such.
Direction is a Bitcoin banking platform. Mark my words he doesn't want to just tank PayPal, he wants to tank centralized banking. Getting ease of Bitcoin transactional power in the hands of the people is the smartest bet. He had in depth talks with Jack before acquiring Twitter.
I don't think the two will be connected. He's just using Twitter for branding, and as a springboard. For example, if you get banned on YouTube, you don't get banned from Google's other services. (It happened to me.)
Many people like me work with an entire automated billing system setup using PayPal. As much as I hate them and their horrible service, getting hundreds of accounts to reenter their payment information in a new system while simultaneously canceling the old auto drafts, would be a total nightmare.
Understandable, not impossible. There were a couple of regular purchases online that only used paypal. And I still cancelled and researched alternative sources.
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, not gonna happen. What a loser this guy is. Low IQ tards can't even comprehend how smart Musk is. He'll probably make the world's best payment service in the world -- one that can detect fraud in an instant, and has security like no other. A payment system based on AI. All issues can be resolved without humans.
Elon takes on Paypal. My money's on Elon.
He started Paypal. This is all part of the plan.

What's up with this article from 2018 anyways?

Might be a decent time to buy a little Doge again.
Revolution Populi
Elon's pump and dump has been over for awhile now
Elon started paypal.
His brother is still on the board.
I thought people were already leaving PayPal in droves. I pulled my bit of money a long time ago. I can't cancel the account, as I don't have access to the phone I used to start the account years ago. So it will just sit there with a big fat zero balance until they go bankrupt.

I only keep a little in myself but I write and edit for a platform online that only pays via Paypal.

anyone who still uses paypal is a damned fool
Difficult to find a reliable international alternative

I see
I cancelled ages ago. Suck it, PayPal!

They should call it Twitter Eggschange
🤭 kekekek
Damn … thats fuking eggsactly what he should call it. Genius.
You need to suggest that to him somehow.
If only there was a way to tweet at him
Didn't he originally own Paypal before it got REAALLy big?
He was one of the original founders, but yeah I think he sold fairly early.
Yes, Elon was a member of the PayPal Mafia.
I think Elon and his partner(s) made his first billion on PayPal.
From what I read, its stock was sold on open market, until E-bay bought it last year.
eBay bought PayPal in 2002 for $1.5 Billion, spin-off PayPal in 2014 and finally ended their agreement in 2020.
PayPal and eGay are shit, used to be a decent side hustle...
Listings by small users get flagged for knife/gun related stuff. Meanwhile "power sellers" can peddle the same shit with impunity? Eff em!
Yup. eBay used to be so good before.

No, Elon plans to turn Twitter into an American version of Chinese WeChat, which includes payment processing. And if you don't know what WeChat is, it's how China manages their social credit scores and general control over their population.
Very low or no processing fees.
He is going to make a fuking fortune.
Imagine how many billions of transactions he could capture with a secure, fair, affordable, easy to use platform?
Twitter audience is massive. People already despise ebay and paypal. Fuk. He could torpedo ebay, fb marketplace, paypal, venmo, and zelle all at once.
Since financial services are just swapping zeros, and ones, they could make the whole thing ad-based, or pay a small amount, maybe $8, to remove ads.
That would crush the competitors, although the business would be less profitable than normal.
How could they do no processing fees without selling user data?

Revolution Populi fits Elons plans to a T
And since Twitter is still banning people for political reasons we are supposed to be excited, why?
I don't think the two will be connected. He's just using Twitter for branding, and as a springboard. For example, if you get banned on YouTube, you don't get banned from Google's other services. (It happened to me.)
Anyway, I trust Elon.
Dogecoin to the moon!
The dream is if GME wallet is connected to this
WeChat Pay American version just arrived.

He may as well. Didn't he start it and then sold it to someone else? Take it down Elon.
Does Google own PayPal?
wholly owned by E-bay last year.

I’ve stopped using paypal a while ago and I’m functioning perfectly fine. I’m open to new options from Elon.
Many people like me work with an entire automated billing system setup using PayPal. As much as I hate them and their horrible service, getting hundreds of accounts to reenter their payment information in a new system while simultaneously canceling the old auto drafts, would be a total nightmare.

Yeah so I can do nothing with my still unfairly banned twitter account? No thanks...
he's working on it. There was an article show that accounts that were unbanned were mysteriously getting banned. Twitter was a CIA playground.
Here’s to hoping. But definitely not putting my money somewhere where mysterious things F me…
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, not gonna happen. What a loser this guy is. Low IQ tards can't even comprehend how smart Musk is. Amen to that, brother.
Good!
like, before they finish destroying themselves?
Mr. Burns....excellent
I FUKING KNEW IT!!!!
Ive been saying that shit since the day he bought Twitter.
What do you want to bet he goes after Amazon after that.
Think Im crazy …. You watch.
I would too. Need PayPal in order to sell on Bonanza. I wish I do not need to.
Facebook did it, he’s just squaring up for the big takedown.
we don't need another platform. i got rid of paypal after they decided what is misinformation. have been shopping online just fine without them!
