His son unloaded on Norfolk Southern for refusing to pay his elderly neighbor. Was escorted out of the building. Was then video taped talking to the cops. Somebody recorded it and posted it on Facebook. The mayor saw it and told the railroad they had better expand the area receiving benefits or they were going to have a f****** riot on their hands. The railroad agreed with the mayor because of the video of him on facebook and agreed to expand the payments to include the entire zip code.

From what I can find (last article 5 hours ago from a simple search), FEMA is not even there. Since we are looking at a debt ceiling issue, is the Gov't out of money to help these people (but yet send money to other countries)? Or are they just trying to "ignore" this. This is freaking bizarre.
I think you've got a really solid point with this one. We're just a couple months from literally running out of money as a government and GDP to debt ratio is OVER 100% for the first time in recorded memory.
How do we know that the working capital exists to handle a crisis like this under our current circumstances? If they looked at the estimate of the cost/scope of the cleanup and concluded they just didn't have the budget or it would use up an inordinate amount of whatever is left (which is likely shaky anyway) (maybe they HAD TO leave it to the company.
Terrifying but not out of the realm of possibility.

So the presence of dead fish being found now is a indicator that the environment wasn't toxic before until the derailment happened.
Another example is if you find dead salamanders as they are very sensitive to minute toxic changes to their environment. Salamanders are basically the canaries in the coal mine for toxins entering a certain eco system.
