It's called arrogance. It's a big factor in how serial killers are caught. Patterns. When you're a psychopath, liar, narcissist, your entire life is a set pattern that consciously, and subconsciously, controls you; owns you.
When your pattern has continued to prosper for you, you get more arrogant, and thus, more careless. There is a theory that these people allow these patterns to rule their lives because deep, deep down subconsciously they want to get caught / be exposed as it will release the sheer ton of shame, guilty, and self loathing they've been living in.
I have some narcissists in my family. What's interesting is for narcissism, most of it comes from trauma- a defense mechanism which then becomes reality for these folks.
I truly believe Trauma is Satan's greatest weapon.
Take a beautiful soul, made in God's image, and traumatize it. Then that traumatized person does the same thing to another beautiful soul. Then the cycle continues.
