Any good reason why the Dems wouldn't save him? He's practically one of their own.
His job is done, at this point a loose end. He fooled people into supporting him long enough to get their agendas through.
Alternatively, ammunition to silence Republicans who would turn against him: "See, they're siding with the Democrats! It's actually Gaetz and crew that are the bad ones!"

The exercise puts McCarthy front and center. It acts as a wood shed whipping to shape or else. McCarthy needs to keep the promises that he made in order for him to become Speaker. Id say because someone had to be chosen. Trump nominated McCarthy. And we all know the influence Trump has. Personally i think ever since he realized how deep the swamp really was and how many infiltrators were in his campaign he made the conscious decision to put them in various spotlights. As your resident devil's advocate: I am obligated to say that there might be something if Gaetz has absolutely NO support in Congress, not even a radically MAGA congressman on his side.
How is he wrong when McCarthy failed to uphold his obligations?
If you consider the normies and disregard anything about "the plan", there is literally zero good reason for McCarthy to capitulate on his promises. Gate is in the right. Period.
