I don't know. Anonymity is how so much crime stays hidden. It's why the Deep State has allowed so-called "rights" to propagate and flourish. Have you noticed that? They're fine with murder and corruption, but the moment a country wants to put in place systems of accountability, they're immediately sanctioned. You can see that Russia is fed up with it and has been cracking down on people who are hiding, which is good for them.
Do you really believe we are anonymous on social media when it comes to the government? They know it's you whether you enter your name into Twatbook or not. The only ones you are anonymous to is your fellow "regular users". The anonymity is there for your safety from them and their rabid attempts at swatting, doxxing etc.

What this does is open you up to pressure from your peers and expand cancel culture. They have been somewhat successful through this avenue for years now, and they want to apply it to internet activism because they don't want you to speak the truth.

Pretending to care about "national security" while the border is wide open is unacceptable. Nikki's handlers in the government care more about stripping away your online anonymity than they do about actual national security threats.
On social media as a way for them to make money; we could have on verified accounts another level of verification; citizenship. Which puts a national flag on the user's posts.
It could be an extra-premium feature and one way to ignore non-citizen comments on social media.
These people make a lot more sense when you model them the same way you model a commercial. Their owners pay a lot of money to get them in front of the camera, and get the things they say into the public discussion - to pretend these things have public support.
Ten years ago, the entire GOP leadership sounded and looked like Nikki Haley. Now, the base has rejected them, and we're even seeing cracks among congressmen. The debates have gone from the default thing for any Republican to watch to a borderline infomercial, with similar audience enthusiasm and viewership.
So people would have to use their real names, does that mean the government would have to also? I fail to believe everyone in government uses their real names. They are actors, and have backgrounds that are fabricated as well as their names. That means every agent that is on social media trolling would need to use their real names. I have a feeling this would be another "good for you, not for us" kinda thing.
