How Big Tech deals with our printers and ink cartridges is identical to how banks and governments will use CBDC's against us (media.patriots.win)

be a ghost - never use apps or devices that associate personal things to your devices.

I warn people about this. Everybody wants to have an inhering contract with you. With printers it's because they know you will come back for their specialized ink so they are "authorized" to keep your card on file. That's because they destroyed the reclaimed cartridge industry so they could waste more plastic.

only get ecotank printers. the cartrage is inside the printer and you refill it yourself with a bottle.

Epson EcoTank are amazing. The ink lasts forever and it's reasonably priced.

You know that there are hard drives in those printers that save everything? Copies, print jobs, every image and where it came from.

We could have had laser-based printers with no ink since the AOL days but they cant let that happen cause theres too much money in the ink

basically same as how they wont let water-powered cars hit the market. there's too much money in the alternatives.

You can buy laser printers now. It uses toner instead of ink, but it’s not so good for printing photographs.

Wow I heard WiFi was causing some damage but I didn't know if was powerful enough to fry food.

Yeah its basically all you can do with it is set it to preheat a few minutes before you get home, not like you can leave frozen food in it while you're at work

I was just kidding. As hard as it is for me to understand the need for a friggin oven to be a network device, I understand the WiFi is just the comms and not the cooker.

I will not buy any appliance that has WiFi capability. It would be like making the CEOs brother a union representative and hoping the don't talk.

As a side note: I think I might invest in a company that sells Faraday Cloth.

Yeah, my oven has wifi. So I can turn it on away from home. Yeeeah, like I'm really gonna do that. I didn't want an oven with wifi, but most of the ones I could find on short notice have it. It's blocked from the network. It was spamming our phones with notifications every time I preheated it. Useless feature.

I did some contract work for HP. It was the weirdest company that I ever worked for. If they just focused on good business practices they would be an incredible company and make huge profits. Unfortunately, they are the poster child for woke-ism.

its a shame how many companies coulda been awesome but decided to just be cockroaches instead.

Like, the same company that built a huge cult following with Saints Row decided to "keep up with the times" and their last Saint game was so soft and a screwjob to the fans that the company folded.

Don't make me cry. I'm a huge GTA fan, but Saints Row was my favorite. I was soooo excited for the new release and then they released this woke crap. It's an absolute insult to the fan base.

Don't buy printers that use ink cartridges (inkjet printers). They're cheaper up front but much more expensive.

Laser printers cost more because toner cartridges won't dry up and last much longer. The majority of the money the manufacturers make is on the initial hardware sale.

eh .. .except for the new HP printers. However, you would need a firmware outside of HP to be on the safe-side. This way, you can use nice equipment without divulging personal information or be in a killing contract with big tech.

Another solution is to really assess the need for paper trails and how these can be established. Writing things is a way to go.

Yeah my laser printer cartridge lasts two years, about $75 to replace - if we need something printed in color we go to office max and pay something like $0.02 a page

Throw it in the trash and buy another brand that doesn’t require your credit card. What the hell do they charge for seeing you already bought the printer and the ink. You are using your own Wi-Fi or direct cable. Are they charging you to store your documents that may be private or personal?

▲ 12 ▼

HP has a subscription ink process. And you get charged for ink with every page you print (like a penny or two a page) so when it comes time for your next ink cartridge it is already paid for.

When I bought an HP printer a few years ago I read about it but definitely decided to buy cartridges out right.

How bad is your money management that you can’t find $30 to buy ink, and need to “finance” it

You wanna screw them some more? There are companies that will refill your cartridges for less than a new one, and they will last longer because the compsny will ACTUALLY fill them

Woah woah woah. Are you telling me you read the agreement for what they were asking you to sign up for and decided against it? Apparently you’re smarter than the idiot who made this meme.

I recently set up an hp printer for my dad and did the same thing. It’s not like they even trick you into signing up. They just put it up as an offer for you to accept or decline.

I hate when people like this try to make it seem like he was tricked or wasn’t made aware that was how it works.

Imo it’s stupid and unnecessary but some people prefer the convenience and don’t care about the cost. More power to them

I feel like if you troubleshoot for a month that includes things like refills.

If you don't have a card, the printer should still work with ink you buy for it. But the printer industry has been pretty shit for a while, so.

I've gotta be honest I don't know that I've ever heard of a printer requiring a card, but the last one I bought was about a year and a half ago and it was only to print some very important black and white documents that were a bit too sensitive to have at a local place.

My mom stop buying ink as it could dried up when she only printed a few, so she rather go to library

Be careful with printing on public printers. I would not print anything with personal information because it’s stored in the printer or copier. Actually I’m not sure if it’s possible to store information on a printer. But a copier it’s most definitely possible. Several years ago I saw, maybe 60 minutes, most used printers from USA are sold to middle eastern buyers. So the new owners have access to your personal information. It makes me think of every time I’ve been to a new doctor office and they copy your ID and insurance cards.

They 100% are. Every business can track what employees are printing and prove when they're being used for personal stuff. Made in China, so guess who gets a copy of everything?

I had no idea about this. I don't buy on credit, in person, and don't register products either so who knew this was possible? I had an HP but my computer crashed and when I tried to get the new computer to work with the printer, it wouldn't work. I tried the program download from the HP site for the model I had, no go. So I bought a new printer but not an HP, it's a Canon. It works fine. They used to sell the printers with the installation DVD, not anymore. 🤬

Also, another warning is if you have crypto and want to cold storage by printing out your seed, do not do it. Write it down with your hand. Never send your seed phrase, wallet info to your printer. Recipe for disaster.
