Why is it, on a dark clear night, I look up into darkness and see thousands and thousands of stars. Yet in EVERY “space picture” I ever seen, it’s always peering into a dark background. Even recently, when each person looked out the top of that space craft…darkness. Not one star, ever. Amazing.

He has read the Blue Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson - thats where his infamous "nuke mars" quotes came from. Colonizing with a dream of Terraforming Mars will be a real thing eventually. And if he keeps to the Blue Mars reading, the early colonists will intentionally be older people (because early colonization life will be hard, and because until proper shielded habitation is established, reproductive risks are extremely elevated... hence choosing older colonists who are done with having kids and ready for some hard work building homestead on the Frontier.
It doesn't sound easy, but I'd like to do that. Much of America is built on the sweat of colonists and frontiersmen who did the same thing.
