Here's my problem with standardization, it stifles innovation. If a company makes something that is better than a standard, but not compatible with the standard, why should the company be punished? I hate Apple, Microsoft, the entire car industry, etc, but if someone innovates, you as the consumer should pay the cost. You know when you buy an Apple, it's a premium cost. You knew that before going into that ecosystem.

To gain that access, they probably have to sign agreements that limit what they can do in those foreign markets.
