Moments later the final shot came from on top of the West Grandstand roof and knocked Yearick's teeth out the back lower part of his head. Conveniently Greg Nicol and his wife were two of the first three on the roof to examine the body, shells, and gun.

The ONLY thing scenario that could be rationalized was Routh getting hit with return fire just as he was taking the shot, but that seems terribly unlikely to me.
