The only potentially good thing about the UN is that the US has veto power, which can keep some really stupid stuff happening -- or at least, making it more difficult. Not sure that's enough to justify its existence, but something to consider.

Agree. From the escalator video, looked like it was working fine until he stepped on it, then it switched off. Notice the up escalator next to it still seemed to work. So I think it was intentional to either
A) make him look bad,
B) struggle up the stairs, or
C) a message from some DS MFers like "we can stop your progress whenever we want".

I’ll tell you what. When that escalator stopped, I’m sure his entire security team - and very likely Trump himself - had a moment of fearing that it was an assassination attempt.

Quite appropriate for Trump to talk about UN deficiencies when it comes to spending, whether it be on refurbishing their building or defending children in Haiti or other countries.
