They need to get rid of all the tech and nanny aides for starters. The emissions requirements are destroying reliability. GM can't even build a V8 anymore. You're rolling the dice buying used since maintenance is more important than ever. I plan on never buying a car past around 2010 unless I absolutely need it.
I know, I am blessed with an honest mechanic and an older car an 09 chevy. I have had to replace the breaks and the fuel pump in the car and I just bought new tires. He lets me know what needs fixing and what can wait he said my tires could wait a while but they weren't very good on snow and ice. He recommended the ones he uses on his shop cars for me and this winter they've been awesome I got four new tires for 700 bucks.
I mentioned buying a new car once and he said why? Your car is in really good condition.
I have an 06 Lexus. Over 200k miles on it. It needs front end work. My nephew (auto repair guy) told me if I was replacing it in next year, don't fix it, not worth it. Well, worth it TO ME. And not buying another vehicle. Mom is almost 85 and leaving me the car. I honestly don't know if I prefer newer. I love my car. And no Bluetooth- i don't think they can hack my car.
Stay away from the later RX 350 transverse 6 cylinder because they can hemorrhage oil from the front timing cover which was about 6 or 7,000 dollars to pull the engine and fix and repair.
Be me, driving car on highway have cruse control on just relaxing. Then ass clown cuts into my lane and the stupid car slams on the breaks. WTF. NOW IMAGINE THIS IN WET OR RAINING CONDITIONS. LET ME DRIVE MY CAR. STOP PUTTING PANIC CONTROLS INTO VEHICLES. PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN TO DRIVE IN CONDITIONS. NIT THIS ASSHOLE COMPUTER CONTROL BULLSHIT. Ever try to stop as the antisocial breaks kick in and take control over your driving. Fuck off.
70's cars are kind of dogs, as are 80's. It's when emissions started choking them off. Find yourself a 90's Toyota or Honda. They were some of the most reliable best built cars ever made. If you want to go MAGA a Crown Vic is pretty much indestructible.
Great cars but the plastic intake on the 4.6 was a really dumb idea. They are notorious for cracking and leaking coolant. Other than that issue, I drove mine right into the ground as they say.
When shopping for a car, our first demand was that we must be able to turn off that Fu##ing "feature". Can't turn it off, good bye.
That and the honk when you lock the doors..... I hate that too!!!
Agree. That "feature" is annoying as F*ck. I'm no mechanic or car expert, but I gotta think this "feature" causes more harm than good when an engine keeps starting and stopping and starting and stopping 12 times during a simple, short ride.
You can turn it off for that particular drive (usually, but not always). Next ride you have to do it again, and again...
Back when I was traveling for work non-stop I would send a car back if it had that feature. I had enough status they would just find me the best available car without that stupid feature and send me back out.
Amen to that. Screw these new propane based refrigerants. The shortage of supply added to the additional stupid safeties that the new systems require has made new air conditioning systems far too expensive. Make R22 great again.
That's what I'm saying, I remember an ad years ago stating something like 90% of engine wear occurs at startup. I think it was some kind of oill or something and may have been overstated, but with mechanical oil pumps you're not going to have very good pressure starting.
That has always bothered me. Mine has a shut-off for that add-on and I kind of wish it had a turn it off completely button so I wouldn't have to shut it off everytime.
Thank you GOD! My mom bought a 22 outback and it has that stupid ass feature. At least there's a button to turn it off. I've been told its wears out starters faster
It has to be one of the reasons. The regulation I'm thinking of restricts how much noise a manual transmission car can make in 3rd gear. The "automatic" section of that regulation allows the transmission to shift into whatever gear the manufacturer wants during the test.
But there's also the fact that manufacturers of anything these days resent consumer choice and are all trying to deny us a choice as much as possible.
THANK YOU TRUMP! Now how can I get rid of it in my car??? If I forget to hit that stupid "anarchy" button we call it, then when I stop my engine shuts off. I am a gen x'er, and I drove those cars that would stall at a stop sometimes and my heart stops when it happens.
It is the WORST "feature" I have ever seen! I'm glad my kids remind me to hit the anarchy button when we go somewhere together!

Nobody can build shit anymore...on purpose.
Good luck with the transmission in ANYTHING now... total crap.

Thanks for the advice!
Don't get rid of that.

I recently bought a 2020 Dodge Ram & I love it. I did buy the extended warranty just in case.
I was just thinking about this yesterday, I think I'm going to find a car from the '70's.

It's not a crazy idea. Restored classic cars in like new condition still cost less than a brand new modern pos
That was my thought, exactly.
Here's some 70's cars.

I have a switch. Turn mine off.
as long as the engine stays warm is isn't so bad, but yeah, still more wear on the starter/etc than just letting it idle
you can turn it off in my car, but if you turn your car off and back on, it defaults back
Those are easily turned off. What isn't easily turned off is the govt's ability to gain access to your vehicle and shut it down if they want to.
I'd rather have that Start/Stop button than my vehicle and everything about being tracked.

Not true. You cannot turn it off in all cars. If you bypass it, it voids your warranty.
kia has a 100,000 warrantee.
kia has a known problem, that engines start consuming oil before 100,000 miles
kias solution? say oil consumption is normal, and not a warantee claim
kia can kiss this customer goodbye forever
IYKYK
For those of us who "DK"...?
Shuts the start stop off as long as it's not on auto
Now lift the ban on the cheap refrigerants!
Amen to that. Screw these new propane based refrigerants. The shortage of supply added to the additional stupid safeties that the new systems require has made new air conditioning systems far too expensive. Make R22 great again.
Seriously the dumbest feature a car could ever have. It’s so terrible on the engine long term:
That's what I'm saying, I remember an ad years ago stating something like 90% of engine wear occurs at startup. I think it was some kind of oill or something and may have been overstated, but with mechanical oil pumps you're not going to have very good pressure starting.
Now do remote shut off
It kills your battery lifespan and is hard on your starter too.
If your battery is old it can just stop starting in a intersection without notice.
As an owner of a repair shop this is Huge!
That has always bothered me. Mine has a shut-off for that add-on and I kind of wish it had a turn it off completely button so I wouldn't have to shut it off everytime.
Now every car that has it needs to be recalled to remove it!
Or at least make it so you can permanently disable it instead of having to do so every time you start the car.
I hate that "feature" and haven't even owned a car that has it. Especially sucks if you have a weak battery.
Thank you GOD! My mom bought a 22 outback and it has that stupid ass feature. At least there's a button to turn it off. I've been told its wears out starters faster
I hope he rolls back the EPA regulation that made it so that manual transmissions have to be geared such that they perform worse than slushboxes.
Is that why there are so few six-speed transmissions?
It has to be one of the reasons. The regulation I'm thinking of restricts how much noise a manual transmission car can make in 3rd gear. The "automatic" section of that regulation allows the transmission to shift into whatever gear the manufacturer wants during the test.

Lol, imagine they made that feature in planes
Hahaha, So this is an Obama thing. Figures, FFS.
