Unfortunately he was 17 at the time of the crime and executions not an option for minors anywhere in the US due to 2005 SCOTUS decision.
Hopefully due to his high profile status he'll get targeted by the white prison gang "Aryan Brotherhood" and someone will stab him to earn their "bolts" tattoo (a certain prison tattoo symbolizing that you've murdered someone for the gang)
That would save taxpayers over $40,000 a year for the rest of his sentence / life.
Saw a minute ago he was 18 when it happened. He’s currently 19 and the killing happened last year. Also said he was originally charged as an adult. Death penalty is hard to get, life in prison with parole chance in 50 most likely.
He was still 17 years old at the time of the stabbing, even though he is now 19.

In that decision, the Supreme Court held that executing offenders who were under 18 at the time of the crime violates the Eighth Amendment's prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment.
As a result:
A defendant who was 17 years old when the crime occurred cannot receive the death penalty anywhere in the United States, including Texas.
It does not matter that the defendant is tried as an adult.
It does not matter that the defendant is over 18 by the time of trial or sentencing.
The age at the time of the offense is what controls.
Before 2005, Texas could seek the death penalty against some 17-year-old offenders. After Roper v. Simmons, that option was eliminated nationwide.

Cant give him that. The U.S. Supreme Court previously ruled that you can't sentence minors to death. Honestly, I'd prefer death to a life sentence given to me at 18.
What will it cost the State to hold him for life? Let;s say he lives to 75 in prison. 55 years costing the State $50K/year.
I’d pay some pocket change a year to keep him in prison for life. Hopefully he learns of Jesus and finds salvation in there. A life sentence is small potatoes compared to eternity.

How did they attempt to explain away why anthony was;
a) Carrying a knife to a track meet (as a minor)
b) Was present in the other schools / teams tent, ESPECIALLY since he refused at least a dozen or more repeated requests for him to LEAVE; i) ESPECIALLY since I do not believe he was even participating in the track meet; he was there as a mere spectator
c) Refused to leave said tent which he had no business being in, in the first place.

Life for life. You kill, you die. Why do we house murderers for years and years? Death penalty puts the fear of God into criminals.
Lets put it another way;
If you as a 17 year old (right?) are even remotely capable of murdering someone like he did; there's virtually ZERO chance he will improve in any meaningful way.
He will likely virtually never be able to become a law abiding, productive member of society.
He's not going to magically "get better / less violent", just like demons who torture small animals almost always grow up to become serial killers.

It's sad that this 17 year old decided to throw his life away, but......he made that decision. Now he has to pay the consequence. In this life, and the next.

I think the court should have let cameras into the court room, that way everyone can see all the evidence presented. I know there will still be some that will say it was rigged against Karmelo, but at least all the evidence would be out there for everyone to see. Just like in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, he was underage at the time also, and they made it public.

I'm not sure why they block cameras - perhaps to forestall the inevitable violent idiots (including paid marxist thugs) getting a jumpstart on rioting when FNM cherry-picks it's way through the footage to present a completely different picture than reality with the intent to foment said riots. I read that he's been crying a lot in court, and broke down completely when the verdict came out.
Honestly; it's sad he decided to throw his life away, but he made that decision; and it cost someone else their life......and he ruined an entire family.
He will be welcomed into the fold. Prison is full of murderers just like him. If he were a pedo or he hurt women or children, it would be different. But he will gang up real quick.

Curious that they didn't have Karmelo plead down to a lesser charge. Given the facts of the case any competent lawyer would see Karmelo was cooked - especially given the judicial landscape (all white jury, Texas). My guess is they wanted a trial so some poverty org could continue to siphon off money for Karmelo's "defense".
