did a general web search on ddg, "vatican boarded up" "buckingham palace boarded up" and I'm just as confused as you, I am surprised this is the first I'm hearing about it. Some articles are saying buckingham specifically was doing renovations but removing the seal from the gates is weird, but they removed a majority of the palace guards as well, which would make no sense even if the queen wasn't inside.
Seal was prince Philip's, who died, so makes some sense. The pattern (3 = pattern to me) is a conundrum though.

The seal was removed way back last year. I'm not sure if it was replaced and then taken off again when Philip died but it was certainly removed last year. I dont think the Queen has ever been back to Buckingham since covid started -neither has her double ?

Following concerns of people that something nefarious had gone down within the royal family and unfounded rumors that Queen Elizabeth II had been dethroned, a spokesperson for the family explained that Buckingham Palace had not been abandoned and nothing had changed within the monarchy. There were protective films placed over the windows on the inside during the renovation work and it appeared from the outside that there were boards on them.
