Desmet felt they fit a profile that they had a willingness to ask questions regarding the official narrative. It got into a philosophical analogy to Socrates when Malone wryly mentioned the hemlock and there was a nervous joke about the two of them having to drink hemlock as well.
Then someone brought up cancel culture, etc as the 21st century version . Everyone was quiet for a bit with the realization they have already been given the hemlock and that they are on a path from which there is no turning back.
