It’s not as much of a burden as people act like. Most people use less than a tank full of gas a week. If prices go up a dollar that’s roughly $15 to $20 a week. The avg American spends way more than that on overpriced flavored coffee
We just paid 40 for 11 gallons of gas. It was 22 a year ago. We have had to go out of town sick family member plus it's the middle of winter and although I live in North Dakota sled dogs are not a viable form of transportation here.
High gas prices raise the cost of everything, it's not just about filling your vehicle. Stores pay increased freight costs, that cost gets passed on to the the consumer.
A former co-worker posted on FB that he thinks Russia should be sanctioned so they feel the pain. Obviously he's oblivious to the ramifications of this, especially on the food supply. I posted an article that explained that, and told him what goes around comes around and that when he starts feeling the pain I hope he remembers he asked for it.
Many of us live in rural areas. I drive minimum 50 miles round trip to grocery shop or do anything else. And many of us are on fixed income. $80 a month is a hard hit. I'm paying more than double what a tankful cost a year ago. And thank goodness we don't depend on oil or gas to heat the house. And gas prices are only part of the story. Grocery prices are horrible.
I don't know what the people here do who have to work. Most of them commute, some 75 miles or more one way.
Pellets are more convenient but wood is cheaper if you can find someone to deliver. Wood also means we still have heat and can cook when the power goes out.
You can get em that run on pea coal too.keep the propane but you will be suprised how much heat you get from a pellet stove, especially if you put a corner fan or two in.
Lots of trees here. National forest all around us. My stove can burn corn, pellets or cherry pits. I understand corn makes your house smell like popcorn. Num num num.
In the last 2 years, I have driven 2018 miles, on March 3rd, gas was at $2.65, my last fill was $25/8 gals using a $25 gift card. I used to cruise a 10 mile route every day, pre covid, to pick items at thrifts and pawn shops to resell at a flea market. I was uninvited from thrifts because of the GD masks that I will not wear at public stores-one hell of a business plan there.. thus my revenue streams were destroyed;
I live on Social Security of just over $1,000/ month and a good credit line of 5% back on groceries and supplies. This allows me to pay rent 3 months at a time plus the usual bills. I am up to one year of SS in debt.. Cheers, mate!!
They've been trained to believe "experts" can "fix" the issue. They don't understand finance or what an economy is.
They live off debt assuming they'll be able to pay it back later not understanding that the value of their "work dollars" is going down. Meaning, every hour they work, they receive less for it and as a result, are paying more to creditors.
I get free coffee at work and even at regular price its 1.79 for a 20 oz cup, Farmer Bros Breakfast blend is pretty good if I could afford it though I would buy Douwe Egbert for home, I absolutely love, love, love that coffee
Recently purchased a Keurig K-Mini and an official My K-Cup reusable pod.
There is a competing reusable pod called Perfect Pod and I buy the paper filters meant for that system and use them in the official reusable pod.
I do buy higher end ground coffee (not grinding my own at this point) but still spend less than 50 cents a cup. Filters I use work out to roughly 10 cents each and coffee at $6.99 for a 12 oz bag costs ~30 cents/cup (enough for 22 cups).
And I do buy bigger bags of coffee and take advantage of sales and coupons so I often knock that price per cup down quite a bit. As an example, I snagged a 20 oz. bag of Lavazza Classico for $6.99 because it was on sale for $9.99 (thanks to a $3 coupon).
If I bought the cheap store brand coffee, I could get this as low as 18-20 cents a cup due to the 10 cents I pay on the filter. The paper filter is a must for me because I hate the sludge that ends up in the bottom of the cup without it.
I also figured out how to brew espresso in one of those K-Minis with the My K-Cup. Espresso is ground really fine so it doesn't brew right in the reusable pods. End up with a watered down mess if you try brewing it as is. However, if you put 1 teaspoon of normal coffee on top, the water flows like normal and you get a nice strong cup of coffee.
Not sure how long you'll wait for it as it's shipped from the Netherlands but it's currently on sale for $3.99 a bag for the Douwe Egberts Aroma Rood Ground Coffee. Might be decent price even once shipping is factored in? The Best-By Date is 03/15/2022 which is why they're marking it down. Should still be good stuff well past that.
Reminder - with credit cards, Mastercard and Visa have cut off Russian accounts, so none of those Russian account holders are going to be paying their credit card bills now (because they cant)
So - guess who WILL be paying extra credit card rates to make up the difference from these lost payments ?
You dont think the credit card companies are going to bear the cost all alone, right ?
I believe it's all to crash our economy as fast as they can. This hurts the poor and avg. citizen the most. Our gas jumped up $1.00 a gallon within 3 weeks.
I think part of it is because so many people are still working from home. I had a short commute pre-CV and would fill up every 10 days or so. Now it is like once a month. But I knew people who would fill up every three days. We would be hearing it a lot more if things were 'normal'.
C'mon, man! This is the price to pay to fight Putin, aren't you a patriot?
The creature designer for Silent Hill fagged out with a tweet about donating money to the Ukrainian embassy in Japan and cutting his food intake to help. WTF, bunch of sleeper NPC retards being activated is what is happening.
Deleting their savings, retirement funds, IRAs and Mutual Funds, cashing in stock investment portfolios, and most likely cashing in whatever little gold or silver they might have. Pawn shops are doing great, too. Every pawn shop I see in Volusia County has a packed parking lot. So you can count guns, electronics, tools, etc in that as well. Also, I've seen a lot of rental properties get foreclosed on and now those banks are selling the homes at a high price relative to the market and surrounding neighborhood's "real" property values. Also, rental properties going up for sale because the owners are seeing what's coming and are dumping their properties at a faster pace. Real estate companies and property management/investment firms are flush with homes right now, are buying up more properties at an alarming rate, and are driving the costs up even more. Not just Blackrock. There also tons of small businesses that are closing up shop or being sold because those owners can no longer afford the overhead costs. So theyre getting out now, while the getting's good and saving what they can. I see a lot of construction and lawn equipment for sale that were owned by contractors that have gone back to working for someone else because of the cost of fuel, lumber, steel, and other construction supplies. There's a ton of used tractor-trailers for sale, too.
Everything's for sale, it seems. All because people are losing the ability to afford the current fuel, food, and energy prices.
I also know plenty of people, like myself, who are now living with elderly parents or other family members because they themselves, or their loved ones, can't afford it any more. Or, they've seen the writing in the wall and are doing this to Steve off any coming hardships. Especially those with elderly or disabled parents, disabled siblings due to Iraq/Afghan wars, etc.
There's no way my parents can afford to live by themselves now, and there's no way I can afford it now, either. Energy prices in Volusia County were high enough before, especially in my area, where Duke Energy has a regional monopoly on energy. We've been paying over $350/mth for energy for years now. Last months bill was almost $400, and that's not from the A/C unit. It was cool enough during the day for the last few months where we didn't need it. But we've watched as our energy costs have steadily gone up since Buyden was "inaugurated."
Now, I'm not "poor," per se, but I definitely no longer view myself as part of the "middle class." There's another "class" forming in between the middle and lower/poor "classes," and that's where most of us fall into place.
At almost 46, I have assumed the role of Family Patriarch, not because of any deaths in the family, but because I'm not about to let my elders suffer. Even the ones who voted for Buyden, because eventually, they're gonna need me as they watch their savings and investments dwindle away.
I've made moves to help ensure that my family keeps eating, and I suggest y'all do this, too. Weapons/ammo for hunting, and tools/supplies for farming/gardening, folks. Buy it up now, while you still can. You'll thank me later.
I've been wondering...now that the covid restrictions are over, is the price of gas intentionally being raised to force us all to stay home? Do the white hats need us off the streets and safely out of the way for some reason?
Well I was contributing it to the globalists, they don't want people moving around they want them confined to the cities I'm sure they want gas at $20 a gallon at least. Maybe even more it's possible it's the white hats but didn't you say it's going to be a painful time?
It's all very sad. 64% of the country lives paycheck to paycheck. Anyone who has lived as such will feel the effect instantly. The city dwellers may not feel it as much or as soon as they tend not to drive near as much as suburbanites and the rural crowd. City dwellers will feel it instantly in the price increases on food and other items. It's the only way for people to wake up.
Agree, unfortunately us that are awake have to suffer along, when it gets to prices the sleepers can't afford maybe it will be clear you shouldn't vote on emotions and media darlings.
Well I don’t work and hubby has car from work, so he doesn’t have to pay gas for work car. I try to do any errands in one day during the week. However when hubby has errands to run he may do it in 1-2 days on weekends. And don’t know how much it helps but we leave the car on ECO.
I don't know about others but I only live about 20 miles from my work. Right now I'm still driving my Duramax Diesel LTZ back and forth to work everyday. My wife has worked from home since the plandemic started so that washes for me right now with fuel costs. Maybe a lot of others are in the same situation and neither has to drive to work and back. If diesel goes above 5 bucks where I live I'll start driving my beater Corolla to offset. We make enough so it doesn't really hurt us too bad. I imagine if folks that had their income planned to the cent on gas it might be a problem
Work from home in general seems to have mostly ended in my area based on how the morning and evening traffic has quickly returned almost to 2019 levels of congestion.
I've been working from home since 2017. The only reason I'm still with my current employer is because I don't have to commute and I haven't found a job yet that will actually pay enough to be worth it once the price of gas is factored in, and this was before Ukraine so I'm sure it's even worse now.
We filled up right before the prices jumped up and on a 1/2 a tank at the moment.
I will say people are driving WAY slower now. Speed limit 70mph, I'm doing 60 in the far right lane with the trucks and other people not in any hurry. I watched a dodge charger just getting it in the left hand lane today, he was doing like 90 like it was 2018. Must be either wealthy or a fucking psycho.
Unpopular opinion incoming: I hope it gets worse. Every democrat I know is poor. These are the repurcussions of their actions and I want them to feel it. After 2 years of their bullshit ohhhhhh how the tables have turned.
My financials are COMPLETELY on point and I am comfortable at these price levels. It's called responsibility. If 20$ breaks you, I'm not sorry... you're a loser. Taco Bell is hiring.
That’s right. I forget who it was, but someone warned us several times that we all need to prepare for rough times ahead. And let’s be honest, if paying an extra $18 a week for gas is breaking someone’s bank account they needed to get their shit together a long time ago. Some of us acted like we were broke all along and instead of paying for Netflix were cramming cash into a shoebox.....to have during the rough times ahead that someone, I forget who, warned us about.
Your ignorance is astounding, higher gas prices cost a lot more than higher prices at the pump it's higher prices everywhere, whether you drive or not, it affects you
Higher prices on everything, food, clothing, medicine building supplies, and the list goes on. As gas prices go up so do freight costs and those costs get passed on to the consumer, from those driving expensive vehicles get starbucks daily and have netflix to that little old couple down the street trying to buy groceries and medicine, probably taking the bus because they don't have a vehicle
Not everyone has had the means to stock up, nor did they have the warning to do so.
No, no. I mean their gas is funded, or at least a good portion. But I don't remember the amount they said, I think it was a pretty good rate that tended to leave a lot of excess.
The problems tend to be the people who think drivers should get a 0 tip, and while I'm against mandatory gratuity in a restaurant ehh paying someone specifically for delivery is not a new concept.
Thanks for the detail. I can see from what you're saying that the B2B would be quite lucrative. You'd most definitely need to pick your trips and work out if it's worth your while. Do people specialize in the types of goods they deliver? I've been drawing up a business plan for an idea I have, and I was thinking today I may need to get a delivery van, but just realized I could find someone who'd be able to do that. There's that hesitation around making sure items arrive in a good condition.
How are housing prices doubling and people still buying those?! There is some cash party I certainly wasnt invited to. I’m ready for the movie to end
Investment firms are gobbling up most of the houses and properties. Jerks
the Conspiracy Theory nut in me says they just want oil to cost more than wind power..
Not just Fink. The rest are, too.
It’s not as much of a burden as people act like. Most people use less than a tank full of gas a week. If prices go up a dollar that’s roughly $15 to $20 a week. The avg American spends way more than that on overpriced flavored coffee

Yep it just trickles down onto the consumer.
It was nice today.would be cool if we had sled dogs though
Yes it was, the wind was a bit raw with the humidity though.
The bread here is $4 for one loaf now.

Can't shop at the grocery store and fill you car up on the same day!
Check on Liheap, we have dual fuel Liheap pays for 90 percent of our propane and the electric heat that I have to use upstairs.
They go by your income and amount of people in your house. Its the only assistance we currently get.
We do all our heating with pellets and wood. No gas, no oil, no electric except to run the pellet stove. Thanks for thinking of us, though.
Oh that's good. Landlord put in a very efficient propane stove a few years ago so we don't have to fill that often.
I have been looking at pellet stoves, but doubt I will replace once we buy the house.
Pellets are more convenient but wood is cheaper if you can find someone to deliver. Wood also means we still have heat and can cook when the power goes out.
Both are more work than gas or oil.
Yeah wood wouldn't be practical for me a corn burning pellet stove would be what I would choose. I'm in ND we have a lot more corn than. trees lol
I have to fill up 3.5 times per week at 18 gallons. Its killing me :-(
It's decimating rural America.
Damn, I use a tank a week round trip to work.!
In the last 2 years, I have driven 2018 miles, on March 3rd, gas was at $2.65, my last fill was $25/8 gals using a $25 gift card. Sometimes you don’t really have a choice. Life can’t be put on hold because Gas is expensive.
Sure as hell hurting my Wallet though.
Wow ethanol free at the pump where is this wonderful gas pump located?
I'm more stunned that ethanol free 87 costs as much as 91!
The ethanol is both cheaper because of subsidies, and higher octane than normal gasoline, so I'd expect E10 91 to be cheaper than no-ethanol 87.
Maybe they are one in the same
Ethanol free at many Gate gas stations in FL. Same blue color.
Yes, I too was going to ask where do you go to get that 1980's unleaded gasoline?
No kidding. I know it's not in CA.

It's bliss. They don't want to know.
They stop drinking Starbucks and tighten their belts.
I've never drank Starbucks.
Some people pay more in a day than I pay in a week for coffee.
You're not missing anything.

Brandon could turn the USA energy back on tomorrow and he knows it. He should be executed just for this.
Brandon doesn't even know what his job title is. The perverts propping him up are the ones who we need to be rid of.
I’m glad I have a paid off motorcycle

Agreed. Controlled demolition, blame it on everything except the government who will come in with digital id social credit money. Order out of chaos.
How? Its called going from New York strip to day old bread - untoasted bread, because we cant afford the electricity to make toast.
Fuck if I know...
I think part of it is because so many people are still working from home. I had a short commute pre-CV and would fill up every 10 days or so. Now it is like once a month. But I knew people who would fill up every three days. We would be hearing it a lot more if things were 'normal'.

over $6 a gallon where i live!!!
$.52 in a week = approx. $11.00+ /week

It’s not high enough in my view.
Once it hits 8 bucks or so:
People will really start to become even mor pissed of.
Right now they are probably canceling extra things like Netflix if it comes down to it.
Millions starved to death during the Great Leap Backwards, yet the CCP remains standing.
I agree.
That’s why I said that 8 per gallon. That’s when shit will start hitting the fan in my view/
Especially when the elite are saying, "Let them eat cake."
When it got this high during katrina people sold their trucks and bought compacts
Agree, unfortunately us that are awake have to suffer along, when it gets to prices the sleepers can't afford maybe it will be clear you shouldn't vote on emotions and media darlings.

So it was either bankruptcy and lose house or sell house and make a little profit, guess what I picked...
Went from 2000 sq ft house to a 650 sq ft apt, and backup food supply takes up two small closets where space is a premium.
My friend who drives for them says they end up funding a very good portion at least
So they're essentially paying to be an Uber Driver or food delivery? I thought the point of work was to get PAID money, not pay to work.
KEK. I've read about delivery gigs paying poorly, so I thought they'd just get to the point when they end up losing money.
Sounds like you are just a little bit more business saavy that the average delivery driver :)
