Because that's the whole big pharma / big "healthcare" grift - has nothing to do with health. Doctors are financially incentivized to push pills on folks. Most (if not all) pills only treat symptoms, not root causes, AND they all have their own side effects. So then old person needs another pill to treat side effect A, then another and another and on and on it goes.
It's not being brain washed but with what we grew up seeing our parents do after WW2 where doctors and medicines were trusted and taking meds for a medical condition was the norm. No one knew much about supplements, chiropractic, acupuncture, working out at gyms or drinking bottled water to stay hydrated.
What we call “healthcare” is actually sickcare. We don’t prevent or cure diseases, rather we promote and enable poor health and merely manage symptoms for Pharma/Oil profits (organic chemistry needed to make Pharma chemical drugs relies heavily on petroleum refining products).
Western medicine is disgusting.
I smoke cigarettes and ganja. I take ibuprofen only when I have a persistent headache. Been sick twice in 3 years I don’t mess with nothin because I don’t need nothin. I touch gas pumps and eat my lunch like a man because what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.
A valid counter narrative to Big Pharma over-prescribing pills, but one that still doesn't address ultimate truth. We are facing something that "diet and exercise" cannot alone defeat.
De-Fungus protocol that's been kicking around on 4chan's /x/ board the last couple months:
Different take on "Bringing Darkness to Light". We are talking about an entity that affects babies 14 days in the womb. An entity that causes intrusive thoughts, deviant thoughts. An entity that large swathes of the population are led to believe comprises who they are.
Many reasons. Seniors are vulnerable to the exploitation of their doctors (big pharma profiteers) - they watch a lot of TV so that doesn't help. Furthermore in the west we have abandoned our old, treating them without respect & putting them away into old people's homes (out of sight, out of mind). Depression and other mental illnesses go untreated - mental & physical are directly connected. Finally, they do have many illnesses from unhealthy products consumed all of their lives - yet they're not being cured, just treated.
My parents to a T. I am in my mid-fifties and not a single pill I take, only supplements...I refuse the big pharma scam. It's sorcery according to the bible...and those who practice "pharmakeia" don't get into heaven. I try to tell them but they're too far gone. A pill for everything, literally they have crates of pills on their table they take 3x/day.
And they eat like crap, ice cream, cookies, pies, donuts, fried foods, candy, pickled bolgna, nothing healthy. God forbid they eat fresh fruits/veggies and non-processed meats...all processed junk. And they LOVE those crappy all you can eat cheap buffets full of GMO fatty non-nutritious food...ugh
You would be sorely disappointed in my house filled with fruits, veggies, yogurt and whole wheat products. And I see plenty of young people eating garbage like this.
Furthermore in the west we have abandoned our old, treating them without respect & putting them away into old people's homes (out of sight, out of mind).
I know this doesn't really apply, but you're ignoring the narcissists that treated their children like shit.
I am a 71 year old vet. I take zero meds. Due to sub standard medical care at the VA I have totally stayed away from all so called health care people, I eat as healthy as I can AFFORD and take some very important supplements which is getting more difficult every day thanks to Fuck Face,
Emergency medicine is essential to make sure the population doesn't die from stuff like infections. What used to require amputation in the 1800's can now be successfully treated with modern emergency medicine.
My Dad, in his 80s, had 19 RXs...finally had an interaction and spent a week in hospital and 4-5 weeks in rehab. (a new RX was responsible, replacing a generic he'd been on for years...switched for NO REASON except the Doc said it would be "better". Goes without saying the "better" one was brand new and very expensive.) I was infuriated at his doctor...I ran a drug interaction checker on line and he had several MAJOR interactions indicated.
Funny how the doc would change RXs on him to the newest most expensive stuff.....We had my Dad down to SEVEN in a matter of weeks, after getting rid of the quack who was likely getting all sorts of under-the-table benefits from Big Pharma....We now maintain a list of his drugs on an interaction checker....I recommend everyone do this especially for their elderly loved ones. Check any new RX against the list. Reports are comprehensive. And FREE.
Especially important because Cardiologist, Family doc, etc...don't always keep up on stuff prescribed by other doctors. A good site for getting such a report:
I see many of the comments in this thread are along the lines of, "...go to the gym, eat healthy, and you won't need that junk," etc., etc. I would venture to guess that most of these comments are written by folks under the age of say, 35-40. Unless you are extremely fortunate, once most people pass 50, they begin to pick up one condition or another, energy levels decline, and a few other variables.
I was a bodybuilder/weightlifter until I was about 35, then life became more complicated after I was married, we purchased a home, etc., etc. Now that I'm past 60, there are a handful of prescriptions I take "as needed" such that I can continue to be productive and not in pain.
Please don't be so judgmental of seniors, and claim that their use of prescriptions is solely due to their failures to live their lives as you do in your 20s or 30s. Your time is coming.
I wasn't necessarily responding to your OP, I was commenting on the posts by others. That said, were you perhaps exaggerating a bit? I'm not sure very many seniors take "20 different prescriptions," and certainly not "most."
I'm 60, still in the gym, I don't lift anything heavier than 45 lbs with dumbells, mostly body weight, dips, pull-up marine corps style, at least three sets of 10 some days 10 sets of ten. Yoga almost every day.
I'm 46 and don't take shit. Never will. No ailments but I'm super fit too... 20 pull-ups? No problem!
But I've always been this way.. .Just kinda figured my health was up to me and doctors are just drug pushers anyway. Nutrition, activity and sleep are the primary keys to good health! Also keep your head on straight! Working out helps immensely with that!
They try to shove pills in me. I fight tooth and nail. I have high cholesterol all my life. I refuse to take pills. My entire family had it so I assume it is heredity.
I eat 95% healthy not overweight and nothing brings it down. Only one doctor a cardiologist that I see every so many years for a slight valve lapse since birth said, your numbers are high because your good cholesterol is high driving the total up. He said not to take anything.
Take the first one and you'll need three to counter the side effects. Then u need three for each of those to counter those side effects and on it goes.
Big Pharma has been working on this for decades, not targeting just seniors either. I remember nearly two decades ago being in subway station and seeing a billboard for a purple pill. It didn't say what is was for, just said to talk to your doctor about it. WTH?? I thought... Do people actually go to their doctors and say "Gee, there's a new pill on the market. Purple one. Do I need to be taking that one, too?" ??
I went in for an operation several years ago and the nurses were really pushing the oxycodone BIG TIME. I took two pills, hours apart, on the day of surgery then had to tell them repeatedly for the rest of that day and the next that I neither wanted nor needed anymore of them. It was noticeably creepy, frankly.
With the elderly I think they feed their fears to get them to pop their daily handful of medi-candy. They also, at least the ones I know or have known, have a high level of trust for physicians.
I can't wait for all these medical scams to be exposed.
Because it is easier to take a pill and treat the symptoms than it is to change your diet, get more exercise, put down your phone and turn off the news.
Common prescribed drugs come with a list of side effects that will eventually require an additional drug for a new symptom from the first drug. This is planned chain reaction. Live long enough and you acquire numerous drugs to alleviate symptoms from numerous drugs all of which you may or may not have needed to begin with. Feelin' played...you damn well should.
My mom is 82 and she only takes one prescription. And she only just started taking that about two months ago. She’s based, strong, and bad ass grandma !
People are living longer than ever and the body can only take so much. A pill to walk, eat, poop, and many to not be in constant pain. Being old is no fun for most.
It’s total bullshit, too. My grandfather had that many pills to take daily. Mom didn’t give them to him for the weekend when he stayed with us and he was a completely different person, in a good way!
As an over 60 person, I take 1 Rx and then a dozen supplements. So it isn't all of us, but once you pass 50, staying healthy takes a lot of work. Exercising regularly and eating well can be a challenge for seniors on fixed incomes. And my parents from the greatest generations treated their doctors like gods and did everything they said, and meds were what they believed kept you healthy. We boomers grew up seeing that, so it has been a hard change to avoid docs and use alternative medicine and modalities to stay healthy.
Depends on relative health. My grandma is on 3 meds, is in her 80s. One is for blood pressure, and the other two are for respiratory issues, likely all caused by her cigarette habit
My aunt and uncle are both on 20 plus meds. They both smoke, they're overweight, they were alcoholics for years etc.
The real issue in my mind is that these lifestyles that cause these issues are always relentlessly pushed as being cool and socially beneficial. Go drink and eat like shit at the bar after work every day, vape or smoke because it looks cool, try the new celebrity combo at fucking McDonald's etc
It's cool to be unhealthy. It was being emaciated 20 years ago to fat acceptance today. Drug and alcohol culture has been huge for decades. Free love was a 60s thing that has morphed into the crazy LGBTQIA+ movement today
Those lifestyles are cool in your 20s, but they catch up later. Big Pharma knows that nobody wants to put in the work to better themselves, so they can give everyone the easy way out with medication. Big Pharma wants you sick. They never run ads to encourage weight loss, but they'll run hours of insulin ads on a daily basis
I won’t take medicine- maybe some supplements.... but I’m looking into herbals as a way to promote my health. I’ve known people that have nearly died due to too much medicine and side effects. I’m done with their crap- they don’t even know what this pills really do.
The brainwashing started early. We were taught from early on that pills are good and make us feel better. Think flintstones vitamins. By the time we were 10 we had minor surgeries and painkillers. Some were put on ADHD and/or depression meds and those continued into adulthood and we started giving our children pills early on. Its medicine, its got to be good, safe and effective. Personally I use some Ibuprofen occaisionally. No pill box for me.
Modern "medicine" is nothing more than a legal means to sell poison and create addicts to them. Socialized medicine is the means to take money from everyone to pay to the purveyors, read pushers... They keep getting richer as we live longer and less healthily. I have had my life saved once by medicine about 17 years ago and I have seen a doctor twice and "nurse practitioner" thrice since then. Only once of those did I see any benefit to my health. If I can't treat it myself with some common sense I will resort to looking for help in the internet. Only when I cannot find a solution myself will I deign to visit someone else for help. The two people I learned most of my home remedies from have long since passed and I miss them everyday still. I am a proud self medicating OLD man. The cure should never be worse than the malady.
In some ways I respect the illegal drug seller more than the legal ones, at least the former does not pretend to care about you, your family or health. The latter is made up largely of pretentious sadists with a god complex and bloated ego.

We brothers then, I'm the same. E cept no cigarettes.
Bc people think a pill can help the easy fix for diet and exercise

I know this doesn't really apply, but you're ignoring the narcissists that treated their children like shit.
Sure. It's a cycle that didn't start with us, but all of us have the opportunity to change something within our family.
I am a 71 year old vet. I take zero meds. Due to sub standard medical care at the VA I have totally stayed away from all so called health care people, I eat as healthy as I can AFFORD and take some very important supplements which is getting more difficult every day thanks to Fuck Face,

They worship the White Coats and do whatever they tell them. Ask them this, "what pill outside of antibiotics actually cures anything?"

I am in my mid 50 and no vaccines or pharma either. Neither are my family or my pets.
With the exception of antibiotics and pain meds for injuries, I've never taken a prescription in my life. I guess I'm an anomaly?
Started with the Rockefellers and taking away natural remedies for health issues

I’m 66 and told my Doc to shove it when he wanted me on atorvastatin. I take a daily vitamin and a children’s aspirin. BP 110/70 this morning.

European and Oriental medicine is otherwise. We can still get those treatments here, if we can find them, and if we pay out of pocket.
