They won't have a choice. Trump is allowed to call his own witnesses. If they refuse, the whole case will get thrown out, even if it takes an appeal to get there.
I want to point out that an appeal will be too late. It could take several years for an appeal, and that would mean he was convicted and probably in jail in the interim - too late for 2024.
Federal marshals serve the subpoenas in federal court, unless you hire someone over the age of 18 to do it. BUT, there will be many a motion to quash and the judge is highly suspect based on a post I saw yesterday. If accurate she was pretty harsh on sentencing the Jan 6 people tried in her court.

The reason he can at all, is because he is a defendant. And the reason he can bring up 2020 matters, as one example, is because that is what the DOJ states their case is based on. That he lied about the results of the election and "tried to overturn it".
Supposedly a lot of the "good" evidence was held back by Team Trump. Dominion whistleblowers, surveillance tapes, and even Miss Ruby herself. I've long suspected that Team Trump is using "sleepers" who are ready to sing on their bosses.

And what if Liberal Obama Trump hating judge excludes the thrust of Trumps defense like they did in Arizona with KL's case where they restricted her team to a very narrow path?
Above mentioned judge can make it very difficult to bring in any kind of evidence they wish.
How well did that work out for the January 6th defendants? Or in the lawsuit against the IRS for its increased scrutiny of conservative sounding non-profits? Do you really think they'll just turnover everything? And it won't have been misplaced, shredded, accidentally not backed up, redacted, or declared State secrets? They're not just going to let you win that easily at the trial they dreamed up to destroy you.
