Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat

Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.

Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome

If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.

Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way

Looking for advice… about to lose everything and file bankruptcy most likely within the next month or two. Self-employed family of 4 Any advice on attempting to keep home so we’re not in the streets?
Life’s savings depleted, business no longer making enough to support us, what options are out there ?
Try to get a job to pay the mortgage and utilities.
Sell everything that is not nailed down.......
When I found bankruptcy many years ago, you could choose to keep the home and or vehicles, and continue to pay the mortgage or car loan. Only one creditor showed up to my hearing, and that was Sears. They were there to offer me a new credit card. Lol
GME is on sale for payday.
That's a bold move on their part.....
TBH I wasn't thinking it would go below 20 again. First power hour in a few days where it went down.
Cmon hedgies, dip it further, my finger will be hovering over the buy button the next few days.
I moved 6500 a few days ago,should settle tommorow.
I had a good feeling they would dip it.
I moved 5k a few days ago. Ready to buyyyy

Yeah, first comment made me not think it was a big deal
It lines up with Peruvian Bulls numbers, people have been disscuseing that all week.....
Does it imply a run at a certain date?
From what I can tell, this was not "a suddenly", ergo not going to make a separate post for it. I know there's lots of music fans here and, while I don't know this man or his band, others may be interested. Rest in Peace, Mr Colin.
Charlie Colin of pop rock band Train dies at 58 years old.

These days it’s hard to tell if a fall death or whatever kind is legit. I never got further into Train other than one album. I really liked it but forget about listening. They have very upbeat music.
Baby Prayer Request
Still sitting in the ER waiting for news about my mom. They just rolled a newborn baby out. I guess they are flying the baby to a bigger hospital. Seeing that can really put things into perspective. Please pray for the baby and parents.
Is there a reason why we do not have a 5/23 thread yet?

❓Question of the Day ❓
If you could live part of your life, without using any extra equipment…. Would you rather be able to travel/live in Outer Space OR the Ocean?
Ocean for sure. I've always loved beaches/oceans/islands since I was little. Most likely because I grew up in flyover country. I've been to Hawaii 5 times and love it so much, but way too expensive to live there. If they clean up California in the next 5 years I would move there.
Edit: OH, you are talking about living literally in the ocean?
Yes. Living IN the ocean. It could be full-time, it could be part-time it could be whatever you want. I think having the best of both worlds would be my choice!
I'd try it out
Neither! I just said the other day I’d never go into space and I’ve always been a daredevil. I love the ocean but over the last few years have developed an awareness or claustrophobia. If I go in a tunnel I start thinking about the thing collapsing. Not enough awareness because I keep on traveling and go in them.
Interesting answer, but being claustrophobic would definitely be an issue being underwater. I think you might feel the same way in Outer space even though it seems so wide and open. I think because we know what’s in the ocean, we have a better understanding of the risks. we really don’t know what’s in Outer space, I mean, we can imagine… But we really don’t know. Perhaps the risks would be the same in either location.
It’s hard for me to decide. If I could go to Outer space, that means I could travel around the world without having to fly Boeing. Perhaps I could visit my family in Japan, and not have an 11 hour flight. Not to mention… Being able to go to places like New Zealand or the Maldives.
But I also love the ocean so so much. However; there are many predators there. I’m not sure how you could get around, and not be at risk of getting eaten. There’s definitely a food chain in the ocean. No doubt about that. But to be able to swim around without scuba gear, and get GoPro videos would be amazing for my channel. 😂😂
Please don’t remind me of everything in the ocean. I was following the great white sharks online. I saw one very close to the eastern NC coast where I go a lot. I stopped following. Sometimes ignorance is bliss! When I was about twelve, I was circled by a shark in very shallow water at Wrightsville beach, NC. I stood completely still and waited for it to go back out to sea. I came out screaming shark, shark, shark😆 Sharks come to that area of beach more than where I go.
Speaking of living in outer space, watch TV series, The 100. It’s sorta syfy. It’s in the future when there was a nuclear war and the earth was being destroyed from the radiation. Those that didn’t build bunkers went to space to live. The kids that were born in space as adults were sent to earth to see if it was livable. It gets a little crazy in the last couple seasons. I thought it was an interesting concept of living a different way than you knew all your life. They had to learn to grow food inside under lights. Basically whatever skill you had on earth you did in space. My favorite part is when someone did crimes they were floated, let go into space. Man can you imagine if we were not taking care of all the criminals?!
I kinda like that idea…. Sending somebody often into space for their punishment. 🥰
Speaking of shark bites. I’m sure you’ve heard of Bethany Hamilton. She’s related to my family on Kauai - she actually lives next-door to one of my friends from our Bible study!
https://www.instagram.com/bethanyhamilton
I’ve heard of her and her story. I saw a post not long ago she’s pregnant or has a child. She’s a great example of perseverance.
Actually has four kids now the last one she had actually a girl. Finally
That’s great
Japan seems amazing, The people really keep the streets clean and are most people there are extremely kind. I have a friend who's wife is from there and he's going there next week, I envy him! Are you from Japan?
my brother has lived in Japan for 40 years, my mom lived there for 10 years, and my daughter lived there for one year. I’ve been several times, but not for many years. I would Like to plan another trip soon.
It’s a beautiful place to visit, and it sure helps having family members to speak Japanese and know where everything is. Basically get treated like royalty. 👸
it’s one of the nicest, cleanest, societies on earth.
The medical system is a damned joke! I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. My dad called me about 8:30, nursing home taking mama to the ER, unresponsive. We got here about 9:30, she had been in the room 30 minutes to an hour. We have seen the nurse about three times and the people taking her to get scans. I’m used to this new way of doing things after being in ER last year, my mom and dad in ER over the last year or so. They did save my life last year but I stayed in the ER from 3:30 PM till 1 AM getting flown to bigger hospital. They never told me I was septic until I got to the larger hospital. Sadly this ER is better than others.
Then you got the nursing home system that’s awful! Maybe one in ten actually cares and does his job. I saw her last weekend and she barely talked. Gave me her diamond bracelet but didn’t talk much. That’s not her to give away her jewelry even to family.
Nursing home did blood work and uti test. Said nothing was wrong. That was last week and this week they say she has uti and pneumonia. The PA was handling it instead of the doctor. Her mental state could be from UTI or from too many years of prescription drug use.
She’s spoken to my daddy a couple times when he talked to her. Isn’t speaking to me. Has a thousand yard stare.
We aren’t the only ones going through this. It’s just a shame. America used to so good in medical care. I know it’s part of the plan. Y’all are the only ones that get this.
Edit: It sounded bad I took her bracelet. I took it because she insisted. It’s in the safe at home and will take it back when she asks. I don’t even like diamonds or jewelry like that.
Caring for an ailing parent is not for the faint of heart. My thoughts and prayers are with your mom, your dad and you, anon, that the Lord give you all strength to deal with this difficult situation knowing that He's there with all of you, come what may. I do hope she recovers fully and gets back to much better health. Just do the best you can to comfort and help her and do so with love in your heart -- there's nothing more anyone can be expected to do. God bless you all, anon.
As far as her jewelry is concerned it's best you take all of it back home and leave it in your safe until she gets back in a safe environment.
Thanks for your kind words and prayers. After sitting in ER from 9:30 - 4 finally got results. She had a UTI apparently at least two weeks. They started antibiotics the day before hospital visit and hadn’t kicked in yet. By the end of the day she started speaking some.
I most definitely need strength! The relationship with my mom has always been strained even when I was a small child. Watch the movie, The Help, I’m the little girl ignored by her mom when the new baby brother comes along. It’s not as bad as the movie, big reason I lived beside my grandparents and great grandma and they made up for it. I do believe my mom loved me back then and does now. I was probably too much like my daddy and that didn’t help. (Don’t back down or take junk from people). I had a great childhood other than that. She worked her but off doing things for us. From the trips, clothes, always had a pool in the summer and so much more. We just didn’t get along and I’ve accepted it now and stopped arguing with her at least a decade or more ago. It’s just not worth it. However she’s not the easiest person to be around. Nothing is ever right. But my daddy gets the complaining more than I do. He drank till I was 18 and she went through a lot with him. Verbal abuse hurts as bad as broken bones.
She hasn’t been home in two years. She doesn’t know it, we went through her jewelry a few months ago. My dad wanted me get what I wanted now. I fully expect her to ask about the bracelet when she gets better. She can get it back. I’d rather her enjoy it than sit in the safe. I know there’s the possibility of someone stealing it, can’t worry about things that might happen. Thanks again 🙂
My phone has been hacked! I was txt my son and then.... stupid responses started coming across.
Things my son wouldn't say! Idk what to do? I told them they had the wrong number. I did. And then they asked me the stupidest question. My kid would Never asked that.. I called them put as soy boi. Now I can't reach my kid.

I don't know about you, but I certainly didn't learn this stuff in history class... I knew royal families were somewhat inbred (some more than others) but goodness gracious, the family line from Ptolemy to Cleopatra is a 300-year parade of brothers marrying their sisters. I haven't seen any of the Cleopatra movies, but Ill bet they don't talk about this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaGuMrs_x2M
Wait until you discover the true bloodline breeding in the last 300 years
The cataract surgery on the first eye was a success. It took two days to be able to look at a screen an extended period. My right eye has minimal damage but it’s enough that I need still need glasses. I should have done this two years ago. I had the best sleep on Monday after the procedure. I don’t know what they gave me. It didn’t knock me out just took away back pain and I was awake all the way home. After about an hour I was out and only got up to go to bathroom till about eight pm. I don’t like RX drugs but dang that was good sleep!
I’m so happy to hear your surgery was a success. And the side effects turned out to be fantastic as well. Lol.
I don’t understand why many people don’t like country music. The lyrics are so close to everyday life ups & downs. 70s & 80s is so good and I’m a little shocked some of these songs were played on the radio. Just a few titles from one playlist: Lovely Women Make Good Lovers, Kiss an angel good morning, Behind closed doors, I’d just love to lay you down, Slow Hand, Tight fittin’ jeans, Holding her and loving you. I’ve listened to these since I was a child, obviously I didn’t know what they really mean. No wonder the women loved Conway Twitty😮
My current playlist while grandchild sleeps. I have to drown out the road noise and the dog might bark.
I understand your point of view. I listen to a lot of artists that you probably wouldn’t find on the radio. I love finding the very interesting lines in a song. This song is a great example and I don’t even listen to these artists.

She put him out, like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
I had never been into country music when I was young, and later when I listen to some they are always good. Thinking back, country music was always portrayed as "boring" in the media in so many ways that it just stuck in my head without even giving it a try.
I guess growing up in the south during the 70s country music was just part of my life. It wasn’t talked about negatively in my circles. I grew up with 50s artists my dad liked, soft rock, disco, R&B, Elvis and country music. I hated country music especially Willie Nelson and the rest of them from the 70s and back. My grandparents took me to school most of my childhood and there was only one radio station playing in the car. In the late 80s I got into country music. Just in the past five years I’m really into 70-80s country music. I really took a deep dive when I discovered Hank Williams Jr and Alabama, my first two concerts in the 80s. Fast forward forty some years later and Willie was the opener at a festival headlined by Eric Church. I knew every song Willie sang. So subliminal messaging is a real thing. Enjoyed it so much went to a Willie concert. He’s a really good entertainer or was ten years ago. I still don’t listen to his music.
I like the older, what I call "real" country music and artists. My favorite though is Appalachian music, the Carter Family, I do love Alison Krauss and Emmy Lou, Johnny Cash, early Bonnie Riatt. I just don't like pop music and a lot of country is kind of like pop. If a person saw my playlists on any given day they would think I was schizo, there's a little bit of everything in it.
I love Emmy Lou but don’t know a lot of her music. I know Cash because my husband grew up on him and after 35 years I know the music and do like some songs. Like B Rita, never listened. I listen to new artists from Appalachia. Sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers are in my top favorites. I really like artists from Kentucky and Texas. I’m into some artists that might be considered pop or more rock country. My playlist list changes daily depending on my mood. Hence my username, Moody Blue is an Elvis song about a girl very moody. I say it was written for people like me🤣 When I’m happy I love sad songs. Sad and I love Zeppelin. The only music I don’t like is wrap and jazz or classical.
Because moderm country is awful. Heard a song that samples the Doobie Bros..very derivative. There is the occassional good modern country song. I really loved Worship You by Kane Brown.
One of the best "gifts" my wife gave me is having me listen to the Kenny Chesney album "Old Blue Chair" That is some of the most relaxing, peaceful music I have ever heard...really good songwriting too
True much of modern country is bad, it’s all the same. I’ve seen Kane Brown not by choice he was an opener. I don’t care for his music. I can’t even tell you a song he sings. There’s some really good country from the past ten years. Then again that’s a matter of opinion and taste. Good thing we all like different things. I’ve seen Kenny Chesney several times, he’s in my top five artists. He’s under the country genre but I don’t consider his music country except for some of his earlier songs. He has two tropical type albums and they are very soothing. I got into his music when I was going through a very emotional time in my personal life. It got me through. I listen to his music more in the winter along with Jimmy Buffet because I don’t like cold weather and it takes me to summer. He wrote Old Blue Chair in the islands. If he’s not on tour he’s on one of the islands with a tight knit group of friends. I don’t blame him if I had that kind of money I’d be on an island somewhere. Be as you are & Lucky old son are his tropical life type albums. He has many tropical type songs on other albums. You might like some if you liked Old Blue Chair.

I have AirPods but rarely use them. I do like the convenience if I’m talking to someone because it blocks out the background noise. Some people wear them all day. I can’t imagine the damage to their ears and brains.
Out of curiosity, I looked up the first available video of The Why Files and it's about fun mathematical facts. The channel has only been around for 3 1/2 years.

Lot of stupid illegal moves by leftists coming out right now...
I can’t keep up with everything. Every day the main feed has so many different topics. Glad things are coming out to the general population.
Consider that stupid illegal moves by leftists never came out before 2016, even though they have been going on the whole time.
Does anyone here shop Victoria's Secret for their wife or themselves?
Feel pretty good, just got my wife 3 shirts And three pieces of lingerie. Lots of the items show a discount of 17.76 after two $20 coupons online
We shopped in the store earlier too Two pairs of shorts, another shirt, two panties, and a fragrance mist for $8 cash
I did for about twenty years until I sized out of the bras. Back then they were the best quality for the price. I don’t know the quality of today’s items. They were not cheap but good prices if you shopped sales. They have a big sale in the summer. They used to give $10.00 to $100.00 gift cards a few times a year with online purchases. I got two $100.00 gift cards and bought my daughter uggs. I’m normally not that lucky.
As much as I can say, this company is woke, and also has a lot of questionable ownership…. That being said, I highly recommend bras from Victoria’s Secret, and many of their other products. I’ve bought bras from there over 10 years ago, and they’re still in pristine condition. They are outlasting any other undergarments that I purchased 10 years ago. I spent quite a bit of money there buying bras for two of my goddaughters, and they still have theirs as well. I also purchased other garments, like pajama shorts and tops stuff like that. And they’re still in pristine condition and they don’t have all those little ballies or pills - that buildup on cheap fabric. My garments have lasted so long. I haven’t had to shop there in a long time. I’m sure your wife will be pleased with the garments that you chose for her. To be honest I’m shocked at the prices being so low, I thought by now they would’ve gone up in price so you did really well. Congrats. 👏👏👏
Edit: for the record… I’m not the stereotypical petite Victoria’s Secret model. I had no problem, finding items to fit myself.
While the deals are nice, the company is woke. It's also one of the L Brands owned by Les Wexner, billionaire benefactor who helped get Jeffrey Epstein started in his "career."
Beyond that, when I shopped there long ago, their business practices were horrible. I could write quite a bit calling them out for various things, including perpetuating stereotypes and promoting poor sizing. Decrease your band size and increase your cup size, ladies--most of us were lied to.
Bra sizing has been hijacked by companies like VS which only produce the most common sizes in vast quantities, then have their fitters offer you a "sister size" when your measurements don't fall into their ranges.
As it turns out, a 32D does not fit the same as a 30E, for example. While the cup volume is the same, the band size throws the fit off. And sizes like 30E, 32F, and 34G are not unusual measurements--they are just uncommon sizes to find in mass produced quantity.
Is anyone else having difficulty loading memes tonight?
I’m having difficulty sharing memes. My phone says that my iMessage isn’t on but it is. Two days now this has happened.

First Verse:
Psalm 28:6-7
Kinda long, but with this gif I couldn't resist. In my old Methodist church the pastor (who describes his situation as preaching in occupied territory) would often lead the congregation in this hymn, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword His truth is marching on
Glory, Glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on
I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps His day is marching on.
[Chorus]
His day is marching on I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel "As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall deal" Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel Since God is marching on
[Chorus]
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on
[Chorus]
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free While God is marching on
[Chorus]
His Truth IS Marching on! 🙏🙏🙏
I love it! I’ve never seen the whole song. Thank you, Mr_A!
It's a beautiful song, and a worthy hymn.
The first thing I learned about it was "Glory, glory hallelujah! Teacher hit me with a ruler / I hid behind the bank with a Sherman Army tank / and she don't teach no more!"
... But I eventually grew up, and learned better.
😂
Thanks for sharing this… I am amazed because I woke up this morning thinking about this hymn! And I don’t think I’ve ever seen all the stanzas. Amazing hymn. For times like these.
The last verse always makes me cry. I learned this choral piece in high school, public school. Try that today.
His TRUTH is marching on!
Amen!
