Vast datacentres full of complicated computers, networking, chips, cooling, code, and electricity distribution for the power loads needed, all of which have to have their power sources and transmission networks constructed. The most complex and expensive tool that exists to date, needing massive tech advancement to create, mining to source materials and the refining tech to turn these into electronic components, and the knowhow to put them all together so that they work. We could we turn AI off tomorrow with almost no significant measurable impact at all, since we have gotten by without it just fine for a long time. And certainly could build alternatives. Ditto for search engines, mapping tools, cryptocurrencies, social media, phones and the other false idols that every few years are exalted as the new tool ushering in the new age of reason.

Science is not bad though. For those smart enough who went off trying to use science to prove that God is not real, they actually found that God IS real and they became Christians. Elon is just saying what he believes is going to happen in the future. I would guess 99% of earths population are already hooked to technology like their cell phones. It would seem to me that the majority of people under 30 can not function without their phones. They prefer texting to having an actual conversation. I would also guess that the majority of those under 30 would willingly join with AI with some kind of link to their brain. Implanting a chip in the brain will be low tech in the future kinda like phone lines we had in the past. With technology growing at the rate it is, the link in the future may be nothing more than a pair of glasses. AI will eventually take over mankind with people willingly going along. IMO
