But the CBO uses the gimmick of calling Trump's extension of his $4.4Trillion tax cuts over 10 years as a deficit. They were going to expire in September but Trump always wanted them to be permanent. Also, the CBO doesn't include revenue from tariffs which if the GDP grows at 2.7%, will be $2T more in surplus over the 10 years. (The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's GDPNow model estimates a 4.6% growth rate for the second quarter of 2025, so a YUGE amount of $$$$$ ~ $3.3T)
I think Elon is playing a role here. Him and President Trump are still on the same page, but these 'theatrics' may serve a purpose that we are not aware of...

I'm not sure tariffs will make it 10 years at where they are currently. They're being treated as temporary negotiation tools to reshore jobs because they're a temporary power under a declared national emergency. To codify longer than that will require Congress and I don't see them agreeing on that. Congress and the courts will eventually push back on a 10 year national emergency. They're starting to now.
New jobs/trade are where the growth in revenue will come from. However it will take a while (a few years at least) before those kick in and supply chains can be rerouted / plants can be built and staffed / new industries can gain root. I always viewed the tax cuts as a way to give people a win in the meantime.
Plus, if we negotiate all that, tariffs will be the bargaining chip we give in return.
Also worth noting that a deficit of 300 billion a year for 10 years is a gargantuan improvement over 2 trillion and 1.8 trillion per year for 10 years.
