In the UK our politicians have several set phrases which, while they sound good, have hidden meanings. One such is: "I have seen no evidence to suggest that ..."
That means that the accusation is true but all the politician's staff have been threatened with losing their jobs, or worse, if any evidence is shown to said politician.
Another expression is used for political opponents who have done exactly the right thing. That is: "Too little; too late!"
In the US, I detect that any politician worried about "democracy" is actually more concerned about losing control to the people rather than giving power to the people.

There was an interview on UK TV a while ago. It featured Piers Morgan and Nigel Farage. Morgan told Farage that Trump said bleach and he had the clip to prove it.
