I am a 73 year old grandpa in a similar situation. I know how I feel about my grandkids and am sure your hubby is feeling similar emotions. I would take a bullet to the heart to save mine. I'm sure he feels the same way. But this is not the same.
I decided under similar pressure to not get the jab. To ask you to grab the six gun, spin the cylinder and pull the trigger with the barrel pointed at your head will not save them. It may deprive them of a loving teacher later in life. The young one may never get to know you and what you risked to be there for him/her. Again, its not the same as protecting them from harm. It's appeasing a overwrought child (mine and yours possibly) with a gallant and stupid gesture.
For me, being around to possibly explain this INSANITY some day gives me some comfort. It still hurts and makes me very very sad.

My mil took the shots in February and is still transmitting something every time she comes over. Kids are sniffly within 24 hours and when she comes multiple days in a row kids are sick for at least a week. I get cycle issues every time now.(severe cramping even on off weeks) We lost a baby in Feb and probably a week ago as well. I document her visits and effects but hubby still isn't convinced. His solution is that me and the kids leave town (RV in some remote location)until it's all over if he decides the transmission is real
Similar situation for me. My mother has breast cancer - she’s been having ongoing chemo and treatments for 2 years (I haven’t seen her in 3 years). We live several provinces apart (in Canada). Now at a time I would like to visit her or her me for that matter - she refuses to let me near her unless I and my daughter (her granddaughter) are fully vaxxed- “I just can’t be around anyone that hasn’t been vaccinated, my immune system is compromised, I’m at risk, if I get COVID I’m dead, you’re a fool for not getting the vaccine, the benefits far outweigh the risk,”. On and on… little does she realize the chemo has already compromised her, but there’s no point - I’ve tried neither her or my father will even consider alternate news…sigh…. My SIL didn't go anywhere from the time covid started until she was able to get the jab. We literally have not seen them since Christmas 2019. My hubby and I refuse to get the jab and they don't understand why. I think they finally realized the ridiculousness of it all and my girls were finally able to see their cousins last weekend. We stayed outside for the party, but I felt it to be progress. I think they will come around when they realize how much they need you. We all know raising babies is not easy and there certainly is no manual that comes with them.
