Out of work yesterday and today with a nasty cold. Can't tell you how many people have asked me via Slack (work) or text (personal) if I've been tested. Telling them all I don't need a test to know I have a freaking cold - the incredulity is crazy. I'm over 50... dude, I know it's a cold. Ridiculous.

WHAT is an OMICRON TEST?
Correct answer: Omicron (B.1.1.529) cannot be determined without sequencing, but for simplicity any presence of "SGTF" is allowed to be interpreted as a proxy marker of Omicron. WHO:
Most Omicron variant sequences reported include a deletion in the S gene, which can cause an S gene target failure (SGTF) in some PCR assays. Although a minority of publicly shared sequences lack this deletion, SGTF can be used as a proxy marker to screen for Omicron. However, confirmation should be obtained by sequencing, since this deletion can also be found in other VOCs [variants of concern] (e.g. Alpha and subsets of Gamma and Delta) that are circulating at low frequencies worldwide.
Translation: Instead of confirming every Omicron result as genetic Omicron, all reporters are allowed to treat every quick SGTF result as Omicron! That mean that if you have a positive Omicron test, you have either one of a majority of Omicron cases, or one of all Alpha cases, or one of some Gamma and Delta cases. Well no wonder every MSM in lockstep is reporting that Omicron represents 73% of all new cases! (Search "omicron 73" anywhere.)
Remember (FDA), Q: Do COVID-19 tests check for the delta and other variants? A: There are no authorized COVID-19 antigen or molecular tests that specifically report the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 delta variant. I simply looked for how they do test for Omicron, and WHO told me in its initial release of 26 Nov, Several labs have indicated that for one widely used PCR test, one of the three target genes is not detected (called S gene dropout or S gene target failure) and this test can therefore be used as marker for this variant, pending sequencing confirmation. So the plot to use an existing-variant marker (known since Alpha) was all ready from the first official designation of Omicron (even though .529 data goes back to about March). The "one widely used PCR test" is called TaqPath by ThermoFisher Scientific (somebody check their stock). The dropout occurs in positions 69-70.
TLDR: Unless sequenced, an "Omicron positive" means either any Alpha, most Omicron but not all, or lots of Gamma and Delta: it doesn't mean Omicron only. That's why "Omicron positive" is reported by everyone as 73% of new cases.
That's also why Delta antibodies heal "Omicron", why Delta cases have nearly vanished when Omicron appeared, and why they claim to know what Omicron is without sequencing. They're taking four of the top five variants (Beta excepted) and calling them all Omicron. At the same time, the proxy is not catching a minority of sequenced Omicron cases so there are also false negatives.

I try to convince my brother that it would be a great children's cold relief medication jingle, and I think it would be. Being the brand manager of a major product, he had connections with some top Madison Ave. ad firms, and he told me there was not the slightest chance that I could get an ad firm to use my idea or jingle. He said they are paid to come up with ideas to sales products, and using an outsiders idea goes against their ego's and what they are paid to do.
The way it has to work is for them to commission with a commercial artist to compose a jingle that expresses their idea.
So I gave up the idea. That was back in the 80's. Lots of things have changed in the Internet age.

She has more than once, weeded the entire yard by hand sliding around on her butt digging weeds up by the root with a pick, and I ain't talking about a postage stamp yard either.

Now, she has gotten hooked up with a lady that gets tons of food, and cloths from the local stores/pantries. She helps her to build a stock which is then shipped overseas to the needy. One of my favs is getting ground beef and simmering into it chicken broth & cream kr Mushroom soup. I had a 35 year old patriot die on me on Christmas Eve. I felt so bad he had a disabled daughter. I had to call the wife. He was thin and fit too.
He tried to sit up on the edge of the bed and o2 was in the 50’s. His heart rate skyrocketed because heart cells are dying, choking. Heart was gonna stop and he was at max O2. Put him on bipap and said maybe flip on your stomach. Big mistake, he was hyperventilating and we called a rapid response and they whisked him down to icu. He had refused remdesivir too. All we did was oxygen.
So it’s some autoantibodies to ACE2 that messes with renin system. It causes inflammation and that pneumonia. The lungs get scarred he was there a month.
But people die. They get into car accidents. Die of other things. You should be neither scared or your life uprooted because it’s a very small percent. I send almost everyone home. But there is some shit with Covid. It’s just people are way freaking out about it. It’s ridiculous. This was delta btw, not omicron, and yes I’m guessing because omicron is literally just a cold.
I cried really hard on the way home though. We go through it with them and it guts me to see that.
I was just reading about the tonka bean or coumarin. Tonka was outlawed here but they don’t enforce it, they make the blood thinner Coumadin out of it. And many of us feel that doctors and hospitals are not getting the availability of treatments that they might normally be able to use. It’s just remdisevir or oxygen. Why not try massive doses of Vitamin C? Or Ivermectin? Or any of the other many options that doctors around the world have found to help?

Do you mind me asking, how did you know that your patient had delta vs omicron? I still wonder how people know what variant it is when they test positive. Are they actually looking at that info? Are there different tests that are run to determine variant? I haven’t looked into this question much yet…

Was just validating this myself. When someone says "covid", let's all pretend they mean any coronavirus disease and not just COVID-19, because that's what the word should mean. And do you know the full scientific name of all human coronavirus diseases two years ago?

Step dads doing OK today but mom is in the hospital now, day 13 since she got it. Has pneumonia in her lungs, she seems to be a bit better today than yesterday but still not out of the woods
