Just be aware that hanging an upside down flag is a universal distress signal. Probably nothing will happen but if you get a knock on the door from the cops they may just be concerned that you’re ok.

My guess is the cop was prior service and wanted to make someone look like a jackass. Similar to when someone gets pulled over for flipping the bird because “I thought you were trying to wave me down”.
