When I was a student nurse I spent some time with newborns. Two of the boys had been circumsised that morning. One doctor used a local anesthetic and that baby was sleeping peacefully. The other one had NO anesthetic and an hour later was still screaming his little head off. Heartbreaking.
At the risk of divulging TMI, none of that describes me at all. At one point in time, the Lord commanded that boys be circumcised to represent the covenant He had with His people. Today He asks, instead, for a "circumcised heart". Despite that, I am grateful to bear the mark that ancient men of God took upon themselves. I'm also grateful it was done early enough that I don't remember it, like the men of ancient Israel had once the practice was established.
You have to ask yourself, did the Lord actually require that, or did the people running the religion come up with that on their own? Ask yourself this as well. If God created us the way we are, why the hell would he make us do that to our bodies? Wouldn't that be God admitting he screwed up his creation? I'm not buying it, at all. God never told anyone to chop the ends of their dicks off. Someone, at some point, thought, "I wish that wasn't there so I could get to the good part."

You can quote all the scripture you want, but it will never mean God actually said to do so. It would be God admitting he screwed up while making that part of the human body. At some point you have to realize that the written word has been used to get people to believe and behave a certain way the same way media works today.
Don't get me wrong, I fully believe in our Creator. I just do not believe everything written in the Bible, and other places, is the complete truth. People have used "words from God" for thousands of years to get what they want. There is a heck of a lot of propaganda in the written word.

I have a hard time believing that edict was handed down by God and not just from someone in power that had that happen to them and then used their position to say that God forbade it.
The point of the circumcision was a sign and symbol that your family was that of one of worship to the one true God. It wasn't about fixing a mistake, it was trusting that if you followed through that you were on the same grounds as other within the faith.
That’s like saying why would God make people sinners or have sinful hearts or even the option to become a sinner? When we know it is wrong and God doesn’t like it… But that doesn’t mean God screwed up, by making people born into sin.

This is not a clear cut issue. My nephew has major issues because he’s not circumcised. Brother and his wife have a tough time, especially at night, helping him be pain free. Says they would’ve done it had they known this could happen.
I think it’s best left as parent choice.

Totally agree. My son wasn't circumcised. When he was older, he thanked me for letting it be his decision. He was fine with how he was.
My cousin had to get circumcised when he was about 10 Then again, he'd had a botched job from an alcoholic doctor as a baby which lead to the problems. (Yikes.)
Ouch. I learned too quickly that doctors are human beings and there are those that are good and those that are bad at their practice.
I thought our doctor did a good job of presenting existing evidence for and against it. Basically left it completely up to us, no pressure either way. I think this is important - not to do it out of tradition, or to avoid it because of spite, but to consider the health of the kid and leave it up to parents to make the call.
I only have a daughter and my wife can no longer have kids. If we had had a son though, I would have left him alone.
Should be 100% your and your wife’s decision. I just don’t understand the all or nothing mentality on this issue. For some boys circumcision is the right call. For others, “uncut” is best. Parents make the call.

What you said is not very precise. "Gender affirming" could be taken both ways. You could affirm that they are the correct gender according to their biology, or affirm their fantastical gender according to what they think. So, a double-edged sword.
