no problem! etrade ->fidelity-> computershare was the route I took. I would leave a couple with fidelity just in case if I were you but not financial advice.. I DRS 99% of mine
You can just go straight from E*Trade, I've done it twice now. Just give them a call and say that you want to direct register your GME shares.

Funny because I moved all my OTC stuff to E*Trade as Vanguard and Fidelity suddenly won't let me buy through them anymore. Apparently it's "too risky" to let me buy shares in mining companies and startups that recycling batteries and precious metals from scrap electronics. Also Vanguard (on top of their other fuckery) won't allow you to invest in leveraged or inverse ETFs.
You can do it from any broker but realistically so many of them will delay the process, transferring to fidelity first was the fastest route for some.
Last time it was Fidelity that BS'd me and E*Trade moved faster. I called Fidelity when a week went by without the shares moving to find out that the last person I spoke to never actually finalized the transfer. Then the shares moved to Computershare in just under 48 hours proving that they can move faster when you light a fire under their ass.
For me it was vanguard who did what you described. Switched to fidelity and it was done in 2 days. They did fuck up my cost basis, which took a phone call and 1 day to fix but I think it’s always jacked up on the initial transfer.

Yup. A turbulent ride indeed. The people still falling for this distraction shouldn’t feel bad as it’s just using their human nature against them. I think you are wrong about 1 thing. I don't believe they came up with this as a distraction, they just got caught. You are right about everything else. They are not paying everyone with shares some exuberant amount. The govt will get involved and pay everyone a fair amount 40-100% more than market value or less to nothing. They will make a scapegoat and business will go back as usual.

AMC has become a distraction though, the executives have diluted the stock several times and sold all of their own shares while in GME there is a lot of insider buying. Also AMC got hyped up a lot more by YouTubers and Twitter bots.

Their hearts are in the right place. They actually want to help people and improve the world. They just shouldn't rely on the government to do anything. Make their own foundations and take care of things.

When you buy stocks via a brokerage (Fidelity, TD, Schwab, Merrill Lynch, etc.) the shares are never registered under your name, instead they are registered as “Street Name”. This means you only get custodial rights to your shares and the DTCC/ Cede & co. hangs on to them. When the DTCC hangs on to your shit, they loan your shit to hedge funds who will then use your shares to short your investment profit while devaluing your investment.
Take your shares out of the corrupt system and move them into your own name. Take ownership of your property, direct register your shares with the company’s transfer agent.
