Thanks for that, Steve King.

Now Millions of American kids might read Mark Twain books. :>) They can read "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe.

Here is a short list of books banned at many U.S. public schools;

"To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee

"The Diary of a Young Girl" by Anne Frank

"The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain

"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain

"Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck

There are many others. I hope kids DO discover and actually read some of these too.

I blame To Kill A Mockingbird for today's problems.

Forget any racial connotations, what I'm talking about is the Boo Radley character.

Books like this teach that the weirdos down the street are in actuality, going to save your life. This is pure fiction, trust your gut instead. If someone sets off alarm bells in your head, don't let your kids near them.

"Forget any racial connotations, "

No, don't. I was around when TKAM was published (and later made into a major Hollywood movie), and I can testify that its main claim to fame was its "racial connotations."

That's good and all, but not in the scope of what I was talking about.

Typical boomer trait, can only see one aspect of a topic that the media has conditioned them to talk about.

I read that back in the early 80s. The part that really stuck with me was the idea that the author(s) were calling for the illusion of two political parties (the illusion of choice) but saying that they'd own the people on both sides so it wouldn't matter who "won" the elections. I believe blackmail was mentioned as a possible tool. The illusion of Choice through voting, but all citizens would get is a Uniparty. And look where the world has ended up.

Im telling you.

We the people need to enforce , full, unadulterated democracy.

We have the tech.

Politicians are obsolete. Query every citizen, or stop pretending to be democracy.

– SpaceManBob 1 point 3 years ago +1 / -0

Democracy is terrible. Tyranny of the majority. All it does is allow a tiny majority to fuck over the rest of the people with impunity.

Bro this is why immigration exists. Go where the mentality is agreeable.

Maybe they like shoveling wretch nowadays just to fill the ranks. But really. Like minded people sticking together should not be rocket science.

This is why we NEED borders.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– SpaceManBob 1 point 3 years ago +1 / -0

This is the thing. We are where the mentality is agreeable. The majority is with us. The problem is that tyrants can't accept people living outside their system. They will follow wherever we go. Even if we defeat them, their ilk will rise from the ashes and return with enough time, even if unconnected to the original group.

The solution for tyranny of the minority is not tyranny of the majority. 99.99% of people don't get to decide to fuck over one guy and violate his rights because they all agreed, for example.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– BobSilverwind 1 point 3 years ago +1 / -0

Do you not understand the concept that all humans exist, despite what they want? They are forced to share the environment, wether they want to or not.

There must be a line where some will give, others will need. It is that, or violence. And if people wanted that, we'd already have it.

Hence, I have to assume majority would rather peacefully resolve this. With this assumption in place, comes figuring a middle ground.

I think it is more than sensible if 99.99% of 8 billion people oppose one guy, that they get to dictate law. Might makes right. We live in an era where singular people wield power over culture and law by virtue of the society we live in. This society is composed primarily of influencers and followers.

To move forward mankind needs a direction, and because of the dynamics we created for our society, there will always be those whom can influence masses. This is how we ended up in the now and here. Followers taking the steps given onto them by influencers.

Now my suggestion, is to use new tech to literally hand the decision to EVERY citizen indiscriminately. You let the people with the balls to lead influence others, and you leave it at that.

Because its that, or I shoot you till you agree.

SK is a total fuck knuckle. Was a "constant reader" of his up until about the time of the "Under the Dome" debacle...which roughly coincides with about the same time that he started sharing more of his totally unwanted and vomitous political diatribes. I just want to point out that the Holy Bible is not banned in public schools.

What is not allowed is a teacher or other school employee providing religious instruction, i.e. "preaching" or leading the school in public prayers and such.

Teaching about religion in an objective manner is also allowed. As in , "Here is what the Christian 10 Commandments are, as written in the Bible" would be allowed but "You will go to Hell if you (insert reason here)" is not.

But students along with teachers are allowed to bring their own Bibles to read during their breaks. And many public school libraries do have a copy of the Holy Bible for reference and such.

I feel it's important that people understand that they DO have the right to read their Bible at schools, just the same as they would other books, and posts like these might give someone the impression they don't.

What isn't allowed is people in positions of authority, such as public school employees, giving students religious instruction. And considering how vastly different some denominations are, that's not a 100% bad thing. I know many Protestants who would be angry at a Catholic person telling their child that they need to pray to the Virgin Mary, and some Baptists who would not want a Calvanist telling their kid that predestination is true.

Whether he's a liberal or conservative, is he's a proponent of free speech and freedom of the press as he's portraying himself to be, he'll have zero problem with kids reading the Bible if it's due to being banned in schools.

From what I know of King, he might actually be okay with it.

Now, with the kids 'believing' the Bible, not so much.

Any American liberal worth their salt should support the 1st amendment. It protects them too.
