From my personal experience, if you cut out sugar pretty much entirely, eat minimal carbs, and give your digestive system atleast 14 hours rest between dinner and breakfast, you will be amazed how quickly your health turns around (not to mention weight loss).
Why this is hidden in plainsight beats me. I watched my wife do this for 6 months before I even started because I was that skeptical. And once I started, it was so easy. The daily fasting really kicks your body off of sugar dependance, reduces insulin, and next thing you know you dont even crave sugar. And if you keep it up, you are actually turned off by the same sweet stuff you always liked.
I have noticed that with this, eating reasonable amount of carbs as part of regular meals during the day is fine. And by reasonable, for me its third carbs, third veggies and third meat. The 14 hours gap is the crucial part, because that gives a chance to burn the carbs and also burn some of the stored fat.
To add to that, avoid whole wheat "healthier option" pastas. I'm from a pasta eating family, and I've noticed that the closer to the proper Italian pasta my noodles are (as in made with durum flour and as fresh as possible), the better I feel after eating them.
Yeah, the mistaken belief that "wholemeals" or "multigrain breads" are somehow any less unhealthier than their "white" preprocessed counterparts is quite rampant.
If you want to eat healthy carbs, your best bet is to actually get unrefined grains and use them.
Also, cooking your own pasta, for example, is far more healthier than a preprocessed "healthier option" pasta.
yeah I'm same, giving up bread and pasta was no big deal once circadian rhythms were fixed.
Eat a big protein/fat breakfast as close to waking up as you can, ideally eat outside around or after sunrise.
Get in full spectrum sun daily
Get it much much closer to natural dark conditions after the sun goes down,
Keep off the bright screens / tech after hours as well.
All of this directly impacts cravings. What needs to happen is the leptin receptor needs to accurately assess the leptin amounts in the body, and this drives appetites. Leptin is found in high amounts in subcutaneous fat under the skin, so getting skin in sunlight resensitizes this hormone's function.
This is why indigenous or natural lifestyle expats that live down in the subtropics/tropics/equator do not get fat and lethargic. Even if they keep eating rice and other grains... because the UV sunlight is the hormone and energy utilization conductor for the body.
Spelt pasta is probably your best bet if you continue to eat grain products, the added + is that pasta made from spelt has a lot more taste/flavor to it and makes regular pasta seem positively bland and tasteless.
Also, traditionally in Itallian diet pasta was the side to the meat rather than the other way around that has become the reality in modern times, pasta was traditionally something that was eaten with meat rather than the main body of the meal with some meat added for flavor that it has morphed into.
Honestly Italian grains process in the body weight different than American grains. Anyone who's traveled overseas knows just how much the chemicals in American soil and rivers affect our bodies. So many people have been to Italy and back and note that they did not gain weight, they did not feel bloated, they did not feel fogbrain even though they ate nothing but pasta the entire time. Same with my family when we just got back from the Philippines, where young members of my family said they ate whatever they wanted and didn't feel bloated nor did they gain any weight.
I began buying Einkorn wheat, which is the ancient original wheat. And despite being "gluten-sensitive", I can eat everything made with Einkorn with zero problems. It is a little trickier to bake with so you have to follow recipes closely, but it tastes fabulous. NO bloating or other problems. I love it.
no! HAVE to eat pasta? Maybe hope for you if you can cut back on the whites. White sugar, flour, pasta & rice. It's kinda hard though because it's rather addictive. AND it is in everything you eat. Start reading the ingredients. SOY is horrible so watch that one and vegetable oils. Best thing I did for my health was to go carnivore. Start with Dr. Anthony Chaffee " plants want to kill you". That will kinda freak ya out. He's a biologist and a neurosurgeon. And then check out KenDBerry's videos. There is hope!
My gut feels SO MUCH better on the carnivore diet. I was always sick, with heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting almost daily one symptom or more. In the two months I've eaten flour products 3 times and got sick all three times. And I used to eat Very good. All whole foods, no junk, lots of veggies, lean meats, didn't eat out but maybe once every couple of months, eat oatmeal, avocado toast for breakfast, lot of fruits. My husband said my bread was compost bread. Still sick as a dog. The difference is unbelievable. oh yah have lost 9 #s as well.
This is the part that a lot of people find it hard to believe, but when they give it a try, are amazed how easy it is to actually cook most meals at home, keeping it simply yet tasty.
We used to be a family that always loved to eat out in very nice restaurants every once in a while. Now, however, those food just dont taste as amazing as they used to be. I dont know if its because our home cooked meals has reconfigured our tastebuds or the inflation has finally taken its toll on food industry or both!
Also another thing I noticed is that using simple ingredients and fresh produce makes far tastier food than fancy recipes with tons of special ingredients.
I gave up almost all sugar some decade ago - that alone is pretty much sufficient. Although I would urge the use of butter for most cooking etc rather than oils, which I also do. I am a very healthy weight and have few illnesses.
Likewise but I cook with olive oil or coconut oil as butter is so expensive here. But I do eat butter on homemade spelt bread. Tiny amounts of bread, I hasten to add.
Personally, I have had trouble with flour, evidently. Read somewhere that sour dough had less gluten so I have tried it and it doesn't make me sick like white bread, rolls, buns, etc.
Yeah, if you want to go to the next level after sugars, its to cut out all seed oils and most vegetable oils (except olive, coconut and peanut oil, which seem to be okay). Use animal fats and actual butter (not those kind that spreads so smoothly).
Other good things to do - use pink salt or black salt instead of table salt (throw away the table salt, its poison), eat a lot of turmeric (in cooking), garlic (cooked is good, but raw is better), etc.
But for most people, just giving up soft drinks and processed food alone can give good results to begin with.
I make homemade pasta with ancient flour, einkorn. Its not inflammatory and does not affect blood sugar bc it has never been altered. It is what God gave us. Highly recommend

Crazy.
I'm Italian. I have to eat pasta. Is there any hope for me?? Seriously

IDK man... Bought a flour mill and made me some fresh whole wheat pasta. That stuff is incredible.

Cool. Thanks!

Shit im a dietician and I didnt know UVs effects on leptin.
Great info! Thanks... I will try
Great advice.

TLDR: More Meat BETTER....
Thanks! I'll look into it. And, yes, pasta is the side... or sometimes the equal : )

Im actually moving to the phillipines this year. Looking forward to fresh locally grown whole foods. And the women.

That's hopeful... Iwonder if I can trust imports

Every saudage needs some pasta, pal. That's like an Italian covenant! But I hear you. I can cut way back.
My doctor once told me to cut out everything in my diet that's white. That also includes salt as much as possible.
Need that salt!! and lots of it. Redmond salt is the best. And milk? NO way.
Use pink salt
Carnivore for 2 months. Have eaten grain (flour & corn) twice and got super ill. System too clean now to tolerate the junk.

Sounds very interesting, thanks fren, I am tempted to try this.
I've done it for years. Basically just skip dinner and have nothing until breakfast. I'm 62 and weigh what I was at 20.
