TempleOS for the true believers. 16 bit the way god intended.

Edit: For context TempleOS is a passion project by a single developer build on super-old hardware and basically all you can do is read the bible on it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TempleOS. This is not an actual recommendation but a joke. For an alternative to windows that won't spy on you, Ubuntu, or Linux Mint are the more user-friendly options from the Linux world.

Windows has always been the "in" to our personal information.

I guess the name "Windows" should tell us all we need to know

There's an excorcism prayer for that. The Umberllino Prayer for Technology from my favorite exorcist Msgr Rossetti:

Lord Jesus Christ, Sovereign King enthroned in Heaven, in your love and mercy establish a perimeter of protection with Your Precious Blood around our communication devices and all technology used during this session, the cameras or webcams, microphones, speakers, displays, any and all software, WiFi connections in the air, both my router and the router of (name)and anyone assisting, the optic cables involved in the transmission of data, and the light waves being used to transfer data. Cleanse them with your precious blood and drive from them any satanic influence. Establish around them a sanctuary of your mercy where Satan and any other evil spirit or human agency cannot interfere. I ask Father that you would block, bind, rebuke and render impotent any assault of the evil one from them in any way. Father, so long as these instruments are utilized in this ministry of Divine mercy, we ask you to allow them to enjoy the protection of the Blessed Mother, St. Michael the Archangel and all the Holy Angels.

We ask this in Your Most Holy Name, the Name before which every knee shall bow, in heaven, on the earth and under the earth, that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Amen.

Fren,

You should definitely give one of the many Linux distros a try.

My suggestion is to download Virtualbox (it's free, virtualbox.org), install it in Windows, then download a .iso of a version of Linux (Ubuntu desktop, Mint, other) and install one of them as a virtual machine in Virtualbox. This will allow you to test out several distros, if you don't like a particular version, delete the virtual machine from within Virtualbox and install another one.

If you find a Linux version you like you can then backup your important files to a USB drive or the cloud (Google drive, dropbox, or other similar cloud environment) and install the Linux OS directly to your PC or you can use Linux directly in Virtualbox as your daily OS.

The website distrowatch.com gives a ranking of Linux/Unix/BSD popularity as well as provide summaries of what each distro is about. There are MANY cool distros that all can cater to different things and have different layouts. I encourage you to give several a try.

There are plenty how-to's and videos describing how to install the .iso in Virtualbox, setting up the networking, resource management etc., as well as plenty of how-to's and videos on installing different *nix versions.

You could also do the opposite, install a version of Linux as your native OS, install Virtualbox in the Linux OS and then your Windows 11 as a virtual machine. I joke with a lot of people (I believe it's true) that a good way to make Windows more stable is to install it as a virtual machine on top of Linux! KEK!

Please keep in mind that each virtual machine that you spin up is sharing your hardware resources across your native OS (Windows 11 today) and all the running virtual machines. You can manage which virtual machine gets what resources with Virtualbox.

There are also free versions of Microsoft Office clones out there for Linux/Windows/Mac like LibreOffice, OpenOffice, etc.

try deleting windows all together. Now that is a concept.

For those who would argue: I need windows ....no you do not. It is a choice to be ripped of.

If you mean the right hand sidebar in Edge, go to Settings -> Sidebar, disable Always show sidebar, then click on Copilot under App specific settings and disable Show Copilot.

Or use a browser that doesn't add annoying bloat all the time like Firefox or Chrome.

I ditched my pc. It was aiding in my sins. This phone doesn’t help. Sadly I’ve learn that the word “addiction” isn’t really a real thing. It’s a made up word that makes us think we have a fight we can’t control. When it reality, and this part hurts, we love our sin more than God. We call it an addiction to make us feel better, but really it just a choice. We choose sin over God. How God still loves me(us), is beyond me. I’m so thankful our Father in Heaven is such a forgiving, loving God. Thank you for Jesus. I know I can do better. I just suck. And that’s on me. So ditching that pc was easy. Pathetic. But easy.

I think you can strip copilot out with O&O Shut Up 10 and a few other tools. There are also custom bare install tools that will destroy basically every piece of spyware, period.

I find your post interesting as I've been watching the New tech stemming from the Consumer Electronics Show 2024, where the combined focus of the tech world was on A.I. this year. So W11 has copilot and Intel's new line of Ultra Processors 155H/185H has a part of the CPU totally dedicated to A.I. function and I wondered why...now I understand. In the past this part of the CPU was tiny and started around gen7. So from Gen7 to Gen14 it just keeps getting bigger hence the reason CoPilot works at all right now I expect. There are no current processors available without A.I. tech even AMD and Apple's M1/2/3 uses the Tech as well. So we can't escape the tech it is baked in. But I will upgrade now for no other reason then the loss of AVX512 on Meteor Lake and upcoming Arrow Lake processors might effect my 10yr old VST's on my Ableton DAW machine.

If you want bespoke real security then learn to...Linux and We change how we use our PC's and how and where we store our data. We were instructed to archive offline when Q started. I use a non persistent Ubuntu bootable USB anything I find I save to a portable HD, which also holds my bookmark list that I use on a secure browser. Set the VPN and away you go...save the interesting bits to portable HD and then when you down shutdown the OS won't be able to remember what you did. And while everything about working this way will seem like it is a pain in the behind it is easy to get used to...so know your logon's well as the OS will not be able to help you or remember for you. You won't need the flashy system I do above using an old Acer AMD K625 netbook...works well.

So despite what they are cooking up there ways forwards that sidesteps their combined effort to control us.

It's telling you how to disable it. I fail to understand how it's misleading you. I disabled it immediately on mine and I just have the dinky windows 11 home version on a cheap laptop I bought. Did you create a local account on Windows rather than one linked to an email?

'Disable' is not 'Deleted'.

If you are used to using Windows and would not like to use another OS, I suggest you install older versions of Windows and do not use any "antiviruses", most of them collect information and suppress many anti-globalist websites.

Well the actual exorcist is called:

secure erase.

You would need a linux live CD, to totally clean your SSD/HDD. HDparm is your cleaner friend.

Then, install MXlinux with KDE or if you want: Mint or Ubuntu. once you get the hang of it: you can consider moving away from systemd to say r6?

At any rate, you will have to forgo the pleasure of being screened by microsoft, and build both in terms of programs you use, and your own behavior, a better digital use future.

you at least need:

  1. VPN
  2. TOR (Toritfy Mxlinux)
  3. Libredirect + knowledge of frontends./ selfhosting frontends.
  4. firewall
  5. rootkit hunter.

you at least need:

  • the determination to be independent and do it yourself. Laziness will enslave you.

If not, you know what happens with the proverbial cleaned house. The spirit goes forth from you but will then invite 7 more. And you will be worse off than before.

Why run MXLinux when you can just run Arch and avoid the inconsistencies that pop up here and there?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– redtoe-skipper 2 points 2 years ago +2 / -0

Good question.

When it comes to inconsistencies, I am not aware of these, except for a stupid mistake last october in a bash script. But that was related to sysvinit only.

It all comes down on ease of use. And Arch is not the easiest. Allow people some time to get acquainted. MX in that sense is a bit more challenging than say Mint. Gauging the responses from people having made the transit from win to Linux, I see some difference in adoption between Arch and the Mint/MX.

Learn to code, indeed, is a thing.

I would say one thing though. Arch has perfect AUR and WIKI.

I got a new laptop last year with win11, and I lasted three days. I was going to remove it anyway, but I intended to wait till the weekend. Nope, I'm sitting in my truck on lunch break, trying to figure out how to install VLC" and I had enough. I already had the thumbdrive ready, so I put on Fedora right then and there.

Granted, I've been a penguin cultist for a few years now, but still...

Yeah, stay away from 11 as long as you can - they sneakily try to make it LOOK like you cannot opt out, but so far I've found a tiny 'NO THANKS' that I can click on to decline. When I cannot, I'm going to erase everything and install linux, got what I want to keep backed up to an external disk.
